    Dear Parents,

What a wonderful musical week we have shared together. The Concert Band playing in the playground,

carols in St Marys Church, flutes and violins in assembly this morning, Year 4 carol singers visiting an old

peoples home and, this afternoon, a trip to Worthing to sing carols around the Christmas tree; we have been

very busy indeed. We have loved working with your children this term and hope that they have all enjoyed it

    as much as we have!

Term has now ended and the school is eerily quiet; the children have departed to enjoy spending time with

you. They deserve a good rest and a very happy holiday; they have worked hard this term and I hope that

they have all enjoyed spending their time with us.

On Monday we invited Anne Thwaite, who was born in Germany but has chosen to live and work in Sussex,

to speak to our prep children. She has had such an interesting life which she shared eloquently with us. She

was very tuned into our values and encouraged the children to seize opportunities, to be kind and to know

that they all have the power to make a difference in the world.

On Tuesday, after the Year 4 pupils had visited Berkeley Lodge Rest Home and sung carols so beautifully to

the elderly residents there, the stage was set for LPWs version of an annual television treat: Strictly Come

Historical Dancing! It is hard to describe how much laughter was shared during the day. In their history

lessons, the children learnt about the various periods of history they are studying from a very different source.

Charlotte Ewart, the Dance Advisor at Hampton Court worked with Years 5, 6, 7 and 8 on dances from

Medieval times, Tudor times and WWII and then they showed what they had learnt in a dance-off at the end

of the day. They were judged by Craig (aka Mr Richards), Darcy (aka Mrs Milling), Shirley (aka me) and

Bruno (aka Mr Payne). All the children danced with enthusiasm, some with rather more skill and flair than

others, and great fun was had by all. Congratulations to our winners of the fabulous Glitter Ball Award for

LPWs Strictly: Year 8! Many thanks to Ms Bridges for organising the day and the LPWA who funded our

    wonderful visitor.

On Wednesday morning, the Nursery, Pre-Prep and Years 3 and 4, saw Cinderella, performed by the brilliant

Rainbow Theatre; also very kindly paid for by the LPWA. They had a wonderful time in true pantomime

style! Yes they did, no they didnt

On Thursday morning, after a challenging start to the day with stationary traffic on the A27 and many

teachers and children struggling to get to school, we thoroughly enjoyed a service at St Marys, our beautiful

neighbouring church. After normal lessons on our return from church, the children thoroughly enjoyed a

magnificent Christmas lunch, courtesy of Mr Steve Skinns and his team! The afternoon brought new

excitement with our annual prep House Shout, this year with a leaning towards Britains Got Talent! The

children worked so hard with Mrs Milling, Miss Standing, Mrs Fudge and Mr Payne to create a thoroughly

enjoyable afternoon which is becoming something of a tradition. Huge congratulations to the Britons who

won for the second year running!

The Saxons are the winning house (again!) and last Thursday morning they thoroughly enjoyed their House

treat trip to the Dome Cinema in Worthing to watch Paddington 2. I think that every single Saxon and Mr

Richards told me how good the film was!

In our collection for Crisis at Christmas at the end of the joint Carol Service last week, we raised 553; thank

you for your generosity. We have been able to provide Christmas lunch for a good number of homeless

people and a range of service designed to help get them back on their feet.

We enjoyed our final assembly this morning; our flute ensemble serenaded us with their Christmas carols

which were truly beautiful, the Pre-prep children shared Christmas parties, and then the Prep School children

departed for Worthing to sing carols straight after lunch. Sincere thanks to those of you who joined us to swell

our voices and share a little Christmas spirit. It was a lovely way to end the term. Please remember that there

is no Wraparound care this evening and school will finish at 4.00pm for everyone.

    A note about snow

We are predicted a very cold winter and should we be hit by heavy snow, we will text you first thing in the

morning, should we have to close the school. There will also be information provided on our the website. I

must stress that this is extremely unlikely and would only be considered in very serious conditions.

My warm thanks for the strength of your support for our school, to the teachers and other members of staff

here who care so much and work so hard and of course to your wonderful children who bring happiness to

school with them every day. We look forward to welcoming them back to school on Monday 8 January at the

    normal time.

Have a very Merry Christmas and my good wishes for 2018; may it be a happy and healthy year for us all!

First Team Boys Hockey v Handcross Park Drew 2-2

A mixture of year 6, 7 and 8 boys took part in a coaching game against Handcross Park. They started off very

strongly and were quickly into a 2-0 lead at the half way mark thanks to Will T and Harry S scoring. The

First Team then swapped around positions, and despite some good chances, Handcross took theirs and

hence the game ended level. A super game to watch; well done to all those who took part. Player of the
