Malaysian Medical Tourism Destinations

Most recently Hon. Dato' Dr. James Dawos Mamit, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Government of Malaysia visited Bangladesh with a business Delegation from 22 Feb to 28 Feb 2011. Rukunuddin Ahmed CEO of the Advertorial Outsource KINGSHUK and Editor-in-Chief of Travel Asia took the following exclusive interview at Westin Hotel Dhaka.

The sales mission included 20 travel agents, 21 hoteliers, 3 tourism organizations, and 1 restaurant owner. During the meet Hon. Deputy Minister stated that the objective of the sales mission are to strengthen Malaysia’s standing as a premier travel destination and increase tourists arri-vals from South Asian market. The mission also provided Malaysia’s tourism industry players the opportunity to develop and strengthen co-operation with Bangladeshi and Indian counterparts. Since 2005, within a span of five years, tour-ist arrivals in Malaysia have increased by 116%. 63886 tourists from Bangladesh vis-ited Malaysia in 2010 vis-a-vis 29540 in 2005. In 2010, overall tourist arrivals in Ma-laysia were up by 3.9% at 24.6 million over 2009 (23.6 million) and tourist receipts were up by 5.8% at RM 56.5 billion in 2010 over 2009 (RM 53.4 billion). This year the target is 25 million arrivals in Malaysia and RM60 billion in tourism receipts. From Bangladesh the set target for the year 2011 is 90000

visitors. Malaysia has improved its direct air accessi-bility to Bangladesh to a recorded total of 25 flights with 6,114 seats per week. The air-lines are Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia, GMG Airlines and Bangladesh Biman. Malaysia truly is a holiday destination for Bangladeshis. From its pristine beaches that nestle in clear azure waters to the lush rolling landscapes, from Nature’s abundant delights that can be found in million-year-old rainfor-ests to a melting pot of cultures and that represent every facet of Asia. From magnifi-cent malls that have everything a tourist could possibly want, and many beyond imagination, to a culture so friendly and wel-coming that 5 ethnicities call it their home. Malaysia has something for every Bangla-deshi traveller. From the first world ambience and spectacular architecture of world city Kuala Lumpur, to the delights of Genting, the beaches of Penang and Langkawi and the forests of Taman Negara for the first time traveller – who gets all this in the comfort of

great year-round weather, similar cuisines and delightfully warm hosts. These travellers find the value for money proposition and the excitement of a world class tourist destination so close by, a great attraction. The Malaysia My Second Home Program (MM2H) has been an excellent success with 14816 participants between 2002 and 2010, of which 1804 are from Bangladesh. Among the factors that make Malaysia an excellent second home is its quality of life, political stability, excellent healthcare and education facilities and services, as well as its afford-able cost of living. From authentic Malay to Chinese, Fusion and Global. From street food to world class fine dining restaurants. A connoisseur’s de-light, the streets of Malaysia offer some of the finest and widest range of cuisines the world has to offer. Created lovingly using the freshest ingredients and recipes that have been mastered over centuries, the gastro-nomical journey to Malaysia alone is reason enough to visit.

record of High Success Rates that is com-parable to top Fertility Centres in USA and the United Kingdom. This is the original 'test tube' technique. The most common indication for this procedure is blocked or damaged Fallopian tubes. IVF is offered for infertility problems which do not re-spond to conventional medical or surgical therapy. These include damaged fallopian tubes, endometriosis, semen abnormali-ties, unexplained infertility, or when a com-bination of factors prevents pregnancy. IVF is a process involving stimulating the de-velopment of multiple ova (eggs) which are then retrieved from the ovaries by ultra-sound-guided needle puncture. The eggs are then transferred to the laboratory where they are fertilized with the partner's sperm and are allowed to develop in spe-cial culture medium. The embryos that result are then replaced in the uterus where they will hopefully attach and de-velop further into a successful pregnancy. International and Regional Experience and Exposure : As of today, TMC Fertility Cen-tres in Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, Kuan-tan, Selangor and Sibu, Sarawak, have catered for patients from Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, America, Russia, Africa, Libya, China, Australia, India, UK, Middle East, France, Germany, Italy, Philippines, Bang-ladesh, Thailand, Cambodia and Viet-nam,etc. With all the facilities available, the extra benefit is the cost. For an In-Vitro Fertilisation procedure, TMC is currently priced between 20% - 50% below that of Singapore's Centres. Coupled with very high pregnancy rates, a client gets the best value for money in the region in terms of cost per take home baby.

It has been working with a mission to foster strategic capabilities among the business communities through different sources like, organizing Business Forums, Trade Fairs, Exchange of business delegations, etc. leading to trade and investments between Bangladesh and Malaysia. BMCCI organized the First Bangladesh-Malaysia Business Forum in 2004 in Dhaka with grand success wherein the former Prime Minister and the Architect of modern Malaysia Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad presented his Keynote Speech on “Malaysia 2020: From Vision to Reality”. As a part of its trade promotional activities, BMCCI organized for the first time a Malaysia single country trade fair as SHOWCASE MALAYSIA 2008 in Dhaka. BMCCI also organized Showcase Bangladesh 2010, the first of its kind in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in January 2010 with the objective to promote Bangladesh trade & invest-ment and a total branding of image, heritage and culture. The programme was attended among others by the Ministers, Senior Government Officials and Business Leaders of both Malaysia and Bangladesh. BMCCI also arranged a Dialogue Session for prospective Malaysian investors on 20/05/2010 in Hotel Istana, Kuala Lumpur wherein our Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Has-ina addressed about investment prospects in Bangladesh during her last visit to Kuala Lumpur to participate in the 6th WIEF on 18-20 May, 2010. In the session almost 50 big business houses of Malaysia participated. It was very interactive and eliminated many questions of Malaysian investors. Through our various promotional measures, exports from Bangladesh to Malaysia have been remarkably in-creased. In 2006-2007 Bangladesh exported goods worth US$ 16.00 million to Malaysia while the same stands at US$ 45:00 million in 2009-2010.
