Coniston Old Man stands to the west, through the Langdale Pikes after which the house is named, reaching the Kentmere fells in the east. Scafell Pike, at 3210 feet the highest in England, is on the skyline.Sense the synergy between the sloping roof of Langdale Lodge and the fellside landscape beyond. Built in 1973 and extended in 2005, this thoroughly renovated and modernised home’s open-plan, flowing interior and wide windows bring the outdoors in.

Park on the driveway, where there is space for a total of six cars. From the car port, either take the accessible path past the pretty banks of heathers around to the back of house, or take the front steps to the contemporary slate-grey front door.

Set on Thornhill, a private estate of five large, owner-occupied homes; pull up the wide, private drive and take a moment to soak up the scene ahead as the Southern Lake District fells rise into view.

The perfect work-from home sanctuary, Langdale Lodge’s versatile layout affords home workers the opportunity to work remotely whilst in the lap of the Lake District. While for families, the open-plan living, breadth of outdoor space and selection of ensuite bedrooms is an instant attraction.

“We immediately fell in love with both the setting, and the house itself, which has some features of an Alpine chalet.”

Carry on, through to the open-plan heart of Langdale Lodge; ideal for modern family life. Quality craftsmanship shines through in this Andy Kapocci-designed kitchen. Clad in the same hardwearing Karndean flooring that can be found in the bathrooms at Langdale Lodge, glossy white handleless soft-close units sit above and below Baltic granite worktops. Admire how the granite curves seamlessly around the corner of the units.

A Neff oven with hide and slide door is topped by a microwave combi-oven and grill, in addition to an induction hob. A larder fridge and below counter dishwasher complete the fully-integrated design.

Immediately to the right, a contemporary glass porch opens out to a wraparound terrace, overlooking the well-kept lawn and natural shrubbery of the garden below. Of course, the Lakeland fells are inescapable in their majesty. Resisting the alluring draw of the terrace to the right, step through the entrance hall, dressed

in an eye-catching handwoven Indian carpet and turn left where a downstairs shower room awaits.Coated in stylish Karndean flooring and with partially tiled walls, this room contains a WC, wash basin and vanity unit. A convenient facility should you choose to have a bedroom downstairs for accessibility.

For a more formal feel to mealtimes, a dining area flows on from the kitchen, opposite a window framing views to the fells. Christmas and New Year are magical times at Langdale Lodge, with 14 easily seated around the table, drift out to the terrace and watch the fireworks over the lake.

Herdwick wool carpet of Goodacres in Kendal extends underfoot through to the lavishly-sized lounge, part of an extension added in 2005. Such a spacious feel with a high, spot-lit, vaulted ceiling above.

Sit down to breakfast at the Iroco hardwood central island, filled beneath with drawers and storage. Watch through the large, east-facing window as the birds flock to the feeders, against the backdrop of the Kirkstone fells.

Nestled off the kitchen is a small utility room, also decked in Karndean, with an extra tall fridge-freezer, washing machine, double sink unit and easy access out to the garden.

Beyond the breakfast bar, a snug column wine rack is discreetly fitted to the side making great use of space.

Glass doors open to the left, with access out to the patio, with a central seating area for sofas facing the Faber Silence log-effect gas fire on the wall, making the room perfect for cosy autumn afternoons and winter evenings.

Flanking the fire on both sides are floor to ceiling windows, allowing the light to stream in, whilst the flow of light is further supplemented by yet more patio doors to the right, leading out to the other side of the garden and providing end to end views.

Sequestered from the rest of the living space, yet not completely out of touch, the room flows round into a cul-de-sac study. Perfect for quiet reflection and work without the feeling of isolation. With strong 4G and Wifi, this is an excellent work from home base.

Returning to the hall, continue past the porch and terrace and into a sunny sitting room, coated in a carpet of Herdwick Wool, surrounded by large windows which take advantage of the home’s elevated position offering a tantalising glimpse of Lake Windermere.

From the entrance hall there is also access down a set of stairs to the double garage; handy for bringing shopping in.

“The master bedroom has a dramatic view from the wide window to the hills. New every morning is the view!”

Bedroom three, a twin or super-king-size room, is located along the hallway enjoying easterly views towards Kentmere and with access to a Jack-n-Jill bathroom containing a uniquely shaped Tigra triangle bath, with overhead Aqualisa power shower, slotting neatly into the space.

Catch all the drama of the setting sun from the second bedroom, looking out to the west. Decorated in neutral tones, with elegant shimmering wallpaper to a feature wall, this comfortable double bedroom also has its own, private ensuite shower room.

Immediately left from here lies a fourth, single, bedroom. Ideal as a children’s bedroom or a nursery, this room looks out towards the vibrant towns of Windermere and Bowness.

Returning downstairs, take a moment’s peace on the terrace, looking westwards over to Windermere Lake. Can you name some of the fell tops on the horizon in front of you? If you are lucky, you might catch an occasional RAF jet navigating up the lake, or even a display by the Red Arrows.

Visible from so many rooms in Langdale Lodge, the well-stocked garden wraps around the home, extending to a third of an acre, making it an ideal playground for children (young and old).

Sheltered by hedges for privacy, choose from three additional patios, ideal for outdoor gatherings, barbecues or simply sitting back and relaxing.

Why not grow your own? A double greenhouse is tucked into the top corner, from where there are views looking down over Windermere. Designed in a natural style, planting highlights different areas throughout the season.

A home for all seasons, enjoy the glacial beauty of snow-covered hills in winter, spring bulbs and summer blossoms and the russet colours of autumn.

Watch out for visiting wildlife, including nesting birds, the occasional roe deer and squirrels.

“Children love it, they play hide and seek, in the

tree house and swing, skateboarding and cycling

up and down the safe private drive.”
