Remember that adverbs tend to occur within or near the verb in formal academic writing. Look at

this excerpt from Unit One. Insert the adverb “possibly” at the beginning, in the middle, and at the end of

the sentence. Does the placement of the adverb change meaning?

would convince readers and enable them to arrive at a decision...
