This year’s catalogue reflects the importance of defining, managing and achieving goals when it comes to personal and business success. Because we grow not only with the tasks we are set, but also with the stages we reach along the way. Skills are essential to overcoming hurdles and achieving lasting success – especially and above all in a globalised world.

Berlitz has been a top address for imparting these skills for more than 135 years. In addition to language skills, we offer an array of modern further training opportunities for the targeted expansion of your intercultural, management and leadership skills. And you will be amazed at how easy it is to integrate training measures into your company’s work processes. For example, an international management seminar conducted in English will equip you not only with management and leadership skills, but also intercultural and language skills. You will then truly be ready for the challenges of the modern-day business world.

THE WORLD OF LANGUAGES LANGUAGE TEACHING ACCORDING TO YOUR NEEDS

Everyone who is interested in learning a language, be they a manager or management trainee, a self-employed person or an employee, someone who travels, someone eager to learn, or an online learner, will find their perfect training programme at Berlitz.

All our programmes involve lively dialogue, fun, motivation, excellent teachers and modern content. In other words, top teaching quality from Berlitz.

THE BERLITZ METHOD®: EXPERIENCE IN A MODERN GUISE

This ‘direct method’ has been at the heart of Berlitz language teaching since 1878. It has been continuously developed to cater for the latest didactic findings. For example, it is now complemented by personal needs analysis and the use of new media.

• Your own experience and needs are incorporated into the teaching.

• The focus is very much on actively speaking. This will automatically help you overcome any inhibitions to speaking, improve your fluency and boost your motivation.

• You will learn grammar naturally based on the situation – in the same way that you learned your mother tongue and that you hear a foreign language when abroad.

• Hearing, reading, writing, speaking: at Berlitz, you learn with all the senses. And with the content being taught using day-to-day situations, you will learn more quickly and what you learn will stick better.

• A positive environment allays people’s fears about speaking in public. Small groups, expert and motivational teachers, and an open atmosphere play a major part in your success.

CUSTOMERS WHO GET WHERE THEY WANT WITH BERLITZ

‘We value the fact that Berlitz offers teaching at many locations nationwide and also e-learning options, allowing them to cater for our employees’ requirements and targets. Berlitz has highly qualified native speaker teachers and we were very happy with them. We particularly liked the professional support provided by our permanent contact person.’

Torsten MüllerRegional head, WestR|S|P Unternehmensberatung GmbH

BERLITZ LEVELS AND CEF LANGUAGE SKILLS MADE COMPARABLE

The Council of Europe’s Common European Reference Framework for Languages (CEF) divides language proficiency into different levels to make the learning of languages and evaluation of language skills more transparent and comparable. Berlitz will test your language skills before each course for free. The ten Berlitz levels can then simply be aligned with the CEF levels and the eBerlitz online points scale (for e-learning).

BERLITZ LEVEL 1/CEF A 1: Your language skills are sufficient to make yourself understood with questions and answers in simple everyday situations.

BERLITZ LEVEL 2/CEF A 2.1: You possess basic skills in the language and can conduct simple conversations in at least one tense.

BERLITZ LEVEL 3/CEF A 2.2: You can follow the gist of a conversation on familiar subjects. You can initiate, maintain and end a conversation, and discuss a range of subjects.

BERLITZ LEVEL 4/CEF A 2.3: You can understand information on familiar subjects in the relevant context and can hold a conversation on a range of general subjects.

BERLITZ LEVEL 5/CEF B 1.1: You can hold a conversation and describe things in a coherent way. You can ask and respond to questions in the workplace. You can understand all sentence structures.

BERLITZ LEVEL 6/CEF B 1.2: You can communicate effortlessly in a variety of professional and private situations, and use a variety of expressions.

BERLITZ LEVEL 7/CEF B 1.3: You can express views and defend these in discussions. You can handle challenging professional situations and also use the language in demanding situations.

BERLITZ LEVEL 8/CEF B 2.1: You can communicate efficiently and correctly in demanding activities and situations, and participate in discussions in all environments. You can express yourself using different nuances.

BERLITZ LEVEL 9/CEF B 2.2: You can communicate in detail and use expressions to lead a discussion on complex topics a certain style.

BERLITZ LEVEL 10/CEF C 1/C 2: You can express yourself linguistically at an extremely high level, virtually on a par with a native speaker.

TEACHING PERIOD

One day of intensive teaching (ideally once every four to six weeks)

Lessons one to two times a week(ideally three lessons of 45 minutes each)

Two days of intensive learning

THREE-STAGE INTENSIVE LEARNING CONCEPT

Three stages with one result: maximum linguistic success! Our three-stage intensive learning concept is an option applicable to our corporate group courses and guarantees quick and lasting learning of your language goals. The concept begins with a short period of intensive learning, followed by regular follow-up language learning in the form of weekly lessons and then further intensive learning. This keeps the language fresh in the participants’ minds and continuously boosts their confidence in using the language in day-to-day situations.

Stage I: Two days of intensive learning

In the first stage, the course participants are intensively immersed in the foreign language, which they actively use for at least half of the teaching time. Numerous role-playing exercises and simulations serve to refresh and build on existing language knowledge.

Intensive confrontation with the foreign language results in the participants speaking and thinking in the new language in next to no time, without the need for translation exercises.

Stage II: Weekly lessons

This is when the knowledge acquired during the intensive stage is continuously consolidated, reinforced and built on.

Stage III: Additional intensive learning days every four to six weeks

Active class-based exercises are used to refresh what has been learned in the weekly lessons – with the aim of then being able to continue to apply this knowledge in practice. Again, the participants use nothing but the target language all day long and practise work-related situations in particular to fully prepare them for day-to-day linguistic challenges. This also boosts the participants’ motivation.

Intensive learning days are ideal for specifically practising work situations (sales pitches, meetings, lengthy telephone calls, etc.) in the foreign language in a compact and clearly structured course.

LANGUAGE PROGRAMMES FOR KIDS AND TEENSFUN WITH FOREIGN LANGUAGES

Fun is the biggest motivator for children and young people – and this also applies when learning a language. For this reason, our language programmes are designed in such a way that the participants are actively involved from the outset – for example through exciting role-playing activities, language games, varied exercises and coverage of age-appropriate topics. Swotting up on vocabulary and grammar is taboo!

Kids and teenagers are divided into small groups according to age (usually 4–7, 8–11 and 12–17 years) and their prior level of knowledge. This encourages interaction and ensures a relaxed atmosphere.

Rapid learning success helps them develop their personalities, instils confidence and opens up new possibilities – at school or in their subsequent career choice.

Our language Programmes at a glance:

• Kids and Teens weekly courses: regular weekly lessons

• Kids and Teens holiday courses: daily lessons for an entire week during school holiday (Monday to Friday)

• Kids and Teens Individual Instruction: intensive one-to-one language lessons at a Berlitz Centre or in the Berlitz Virtual Classroom

Programme benefits

• Educationally sound concept for motivated, easy learning• Age-appropriate topics and modern course materials• Small groups with specially trained native-speaker language teachers or one-to-one lessons• Ideal preparation for or supplement to language lessons at school• Enhancement of future career prospects

For more information on the language programmes for kids and teens, visit the website www.berlitz.de/kidscourses or call in at your local Berlitz Centre.

You can also order our free language camp catalogue: tel. +49 (0)69 666 0890, www.berlitz.de/sprachcamps or [email protected].

‘Our first Berlitz corporate camp ran for a week. The kids had a great time and were very sad when it was time to say goodbye. Because demand was so high, this year’s language camp will run for two weeks. My experience as an employee, a camp supervisor and a mum to a son who took part in the camp was very positive. I was very impressed by the organisation, how it was all run and also the teachers. It was a great experience for all of us!’

BERLITZ LANGUAGE CAMPS DURING ALL SCHOOL HOLIDAYS

Language study trips in combination with attractive leisure and sports activities are the secret to the success of our popular Berlitz camps. Held throughout Germany from the North Sea to the Alps, the camps allow seven- to 17-year-olds to actively learn English, French and Spanish all day long, as the only language spoken from the time they get up to when they go to bed is the target language!

Motivational lessons in the morning encourage the participants to speak. And in the afternoons and evenings, they continue to learn without realising it during a wide array of activities. Some 10,000 children and adolescents attend Berlitz language camps every year. When can we expect to see your child there?

The language teaching concept

• Participants are grouped according to their linguistic abilities at the start of the camp• Language lessons in small groups of between eight and (maximum) 12 participants• Four 45-minute lessons a day with qualified language teachers• Interviews, role-playing, presentations and topical project work• All the participants receive a Berlitz certificate at the end of the camp

We can also implement our tried-and-tested language concept for children and teens right at your business premises during school holidays. Your employees’ children aged between five and 13 are put into appropriate age groups and actively learn the foreign language where their parents work. By offering such camps, you do not only take the strain off your employees during the holidays if they have children, but also boost their loyalty to the company.

Some of the teaching content and exciting activities can be tailored specifically to your company – for example, in the form of interviews conducted with staff members, guided tours, etc. Berlitz will happily organise the whole thing for you. The diverse holiday programme is rounded off by sports activities and excursions.

ONLINE LIVE SEMINARS: REAL-TIME TEACHING IN THE VIRTUAL CLASSROOM

Many of our seminar topics can also be booked as compact Online Live Seminars. Here, the participants attend an interactive, teacher-led real-time lesson held in the Virtual Classroom (Adobe Connect) – this inexpensive alternative to face-to-face teaching is not tied to a specific location and is ideal for mobile people or employees at multiple company locations who are being given the opportunity to benefit from further training as a company group.

Online Live Seminars can be easily incorporated into daily work routines and all that’s needed is a computer or laptop with an Internet connection and a phone line. Experienced Berlitz teaching experts take the participants through the content in small groups in two 90-minute sessions. A lasting learning effect similar to that of face-to-face teaching is achieved with preparatory and interim in-depth tasks, interactive learning techniques such as teacher input, moderated discussions and feedback talks, and practical content.

In the case of company groups, upon request a producer/technical assistant can also be provided, to help the participants with dialling in and using the various technical functions. During virtual teaching, the producer assists the teacher with changing the layouts, creating pods and putting together and overseeing small groups in virtual side rooms. The producer can also play an active part by, for example, encouraging the participants to take part in role plays and simulations.

The facts

• Live seminars in the Virtual Classroom• Led by experienced Berlitz teaching experts• Two 90-minute sessions plus preparatory and interim tasks• Interactive techniques like in face-to-face teaching• Can be booked as open groups or for company groups• Small groups of max. twelve participants

The benefits

• Further training which isn’t tied to a specific location• Ultra compact and based on professional practice• Maximum participant involvement• Easy to incorporate into daily work routines• Inexpensive alternative to face-to-face teaching• Also ideal for employees at multiple locations

COMMUNICATING ACROSS BORDERSINTERCULTURAL TRAINING AS THE KEY TO GLOBAL SUCCESS

International business partners and employees demonstrate different negotiation, cooperation and management styles in many situations. When global enterprises understand these cultural contrasts, it has a positive effect on business relationships and workflow.

Berlitz’s teaching pursues a specific approach designed to give you intercultural knowledge in a vivid, practical, diverse and in-depth way. See for yourself!

THE BERLITZ DEFINITION: WHAT IS CULTURE?

There are innumerable definitions of culture, each highlighting a different aspect and each being equally valid. We see culture as a filter through which we process information, make decisions and communicate. It manifests itself as, for example, our expectations of certain modes of behaviour. Our intercultural training approach focuses on six levels at which culture has a part to play in the working world. It is considerably more multifaceted than merely looking at a country’s culture.

• Organisational level: relevant for global organisations and mergers and acquisitions• Individual level: relevant for personal interaction in intercultural settings• Team level: relevant for the optimisation of international teamwork• National level: relevant for market entry strategies, international HR work, international outsourcing• Functional level: relevant for working in cross-functional management and project teams• Identity group level: relevant for diversity initiatives and talent management

THE BERLITZ DEFINITION: WHAT ARE INTERCULTURAL SKILLS?

Having intercultural skills is about a whole lot more than merely mastering the usual dos and don’ts. Successful teaching does not just impart rules of conduct – it also relates them to your own personality and individual environment. In our definition of intercultural skills, we make a distinction between internal and external factors.

The internal factors comprise personal values and attitudes:

• Openness: An interest in other cultures, openness to alternative solutions, curiosity, a willingness to take risks• Self-perception: A realistic look at your own personality and cultural character• Perception of others: Awareness of your counterpart’s cultural character, an appreciation of diversity

The external factors are all the relevant factors that we learn over time:

• Knowledge: About significant political, historical, geographic or societal issues• Competence: An active repertoire of alternative means of conduct for effective and appropriate interaction in

intercultural situations

GCAA – GLOBAL COMPETENCE APTITUDE ASSESSMENT® (ONLINE ASSESSMENT)ASCERTAINING INTERCULTURAL SKILLS

GCAA ascertains an individual’s intercultural skill level by analysing and presenting internal factors (values/attitude) and external factors (acquired knowledge/competence).

Both areas are illustrated in the global competency model. GCAA draws on various questioning scenarios in order to produce a differentiated result:• Knowledge questions: global understanding • Case studies: global situations • Day-to-day decisions: your choices • Questions about personal attitude: your perspectives

The results are summarised in a personal profile and serve as a valuable tool for use in various aspects of intercultural work:• Ascertaining suitability for global executive positions• Identifying suitable candidates for global projects• Identifying skills and skill deficits in order to draw up a personal development plan• Documentation of skill development – for example, before and after periods of working abroad or further

SUCCESSFUL LEADERSHIP IN PRACTICEHOW TO GET OFF TO A GOOD START AND ASSERT YOURSELF

Managers are often under immense pressure. While you may be well educated, bursting with up-to-the-minute expertise, familiar with the latest technologies, approach your work with a great deal of enthusiasm and have fresh new ideas, you may lack experience with actual leadership situations and thus confidence in your new role.

This seminar offers a unique combination of interactive training units to help you perform your leadership role competently and authentically. It begins with reflection and exploration of your own leadership role. The common goal is to develop a leadership profile that matches your personality and is authentic. Gain confidence and authority by simulating typical work situations. Acquaint yourself with the practical possibilities of team building and learn which communication tools are helpful in employee appraisals.

Target group

• Managers and staff in managerial positions• Young talent, management trainees• High-potential individuals from all fields

Content and structure

This series of seminars has a unique structure, which is perfectly attuned to the needs of busy managers – an eight days of face-to-face seminar spread over a six-month training period:

• It begins with a three-day intensive seminar on the leadership role, leadership tools and understanding of leadership.

• A second three-day intensive seminar on leadership communication, interviewing and conflict management follows around two months later.

• The third module takes place after a further two months in the form of a two-day intensive seminar on the role of the leader as a change manager and a final presentation.

One particular advantage of the seminar is the individual trainer support throughout the six-month period. Each participant receives support via e-mail and during two coaching sessions by means of a telephone conference. Learning tandems, each comprising two participants, boost motivation and encourage networking and sustainability. Working through study guides ensures that knowledge is firmly rooted and helps participants reflect on their own development goals.

BUILDING, DEVELOPING AND MANAGING TEAMSHOW TO LAY SOLID FOUNDATIONS AND REMAIN IN CONTROL

The aim of a team is to work together in such a way that the team performance far exceeds the potential of the individual team members. This is not only the case in theory; successful teams show that this kind of dynamic is possible in practice. Admittedly, these group processes are not easy to get to grips with and often it is not technical aspects, but rather daily cooperation, human interaction and communication which pose the greatest challenge.

This seminar provides invaluable practical expertise on the leadership of groups in addition to the formation offunctioning teams with a common culture and accepted rules. Learn how to involve the most varied of personalitytypes and how to overcome conflicts and crises. The aim is to motivate your teams to deliver optimum performance.

Target group

• Executives and management trainees• Project managers, team leaders and managers with personnel responsibilities

Seminar content

• Team leaders – the challenges for the team developer• Team processes – the exciting phases in cooperation• Team structure – roles and personalities within the team• Team culture – group dynamics and rules• Team spirit – dealing with problems and resistance

WORKING IN VIRTUAL TEAMSNEW WORK TECHNIQUES FOR A NEW AGE

As work becomes more global and more flexible, it makes a significant impact on team structures and work methods. Virtual teams are increasingly replacing direct daily contact in the office. This is resulting in new communication, organisation and management challenges: in addition to there being barriers of a spatial, time-based and often also linguistic nature, the team members can also represent cultural differences.

The participants are given an insight into the advantages and risks of virtual cooperation and develop rules for virtual and intercultural communication. Exercises help them to avoid communication pitfalls and to work on projects together successfully, in spite of the spatial distance between team members.

Target group

• Executives and management trainees• Project managers, team leaders and managers with personnel responsibilities

Seminar content

• Attributes of and opportunities offered by virtual teams• Rules of virtual communication• Optimising organisational structures and processes• Virtual strategies of motivation, control, performance evaluation and of guaranteeing results

CHANGE MANAGEMENTTAKING THE STING OUT OF CHANGE PROCESSES

Nothing is as constant as change, and it is happening increasingly often at ever-shorter intervals. Companies are forced to adapt rapidly to survive in the marketplace, making change management a motivational task. Change processes tend to be unpopular within a company, as the unknown initially causes pressure and uncertainty among staff.

This is exactly where this seminar comes into play. It shows how to assign responsibility to teams, and how employees can grow as individuals through these change processes. Learn practical ways to encourage communi-cation, innovation, creativity and effective networking within your company. Develop strategies to actively include employees in the change process and motivate them to assume responsibility. This forms the basis for the successful introduction of new structures into a company.

Target group

• Managing directors and executives on all levels• Project managers and team and group leaders

Seminar content

• Identifying barriers – the master plan for change• Success factor – implementing change correctly• Group dynamics – an indicator of change• Synergies – identification and strategic use• Conflict facilitation – handling difficult teams• Transfer – change management in your company

STAKEHOLDER-MANAGEMENTONLY A HAPPY STAKEHOLDER IS A GOOD STAKEHOLDER

Stakeholder management is a complex process – the importance of which should not be underestimated. The aim is to understand, influence and build up positive relationships with stakeholders. Stakeholder management entails appropriate expectation management and agreeing on common goals. It should be planned and managed on the basis of fundamental rules, because happy stakeholders are crucial to the success of a project.

This seminar clearly communicates the knowledge and the appropriate strategies needed for successful stakeholder management. It focuses on determining who the stakeholders are, stakeholder analysis, the development of a stakeholder matrix and stakeholder communication.

Target group

• Executives and management trainees• Project managers, team leaders and managers with personnel responsibilities

Seminar content

• Determining who are the right stakeholders• Classifying stakeholders• Evaluating and foreseeing stakeholder reactions• Stakeholder attitude evaluation matrix• When and how to say ‘Yes’ or ‘No’. Which answer results in happy stakeholders?

BUSINESS CASE BASICS INVESTMENTS CALL FOR CAREFUL CONSIDERATION

Investment decisions are often a daily occurrence in a business. But it’s not always easy to determine whether an investment is really worth it before taking the plunge. A business case evaluates the profitability of investment decisions and gives decision-making guidance by comparing a number of alternatives – primarily in terms of the costs, benefits, length of implementation, risks and hurdles. Business cases are incidentally not just an integral and indispensable part of investment decisions for businesses. They also have an important role to play in day-to-day life – for example, when buying a car or property.

In this seminar, you will learn the basics of producing a business case and will then apply them to practical examples. In addition, two interactive simulations allow you to directly apply what you have learned.

Target group

• Professionals and executives• Self-employed individuals and managers

Seminar content

• Typical day-to-day cases• Six-phase model• Business case composition and structure• Your business case: case study and presentation

TEAM TRAINING WITH HORSES – LEADERSHIP AND TEAM BUILDINGSELECTED SEMINAR TOPICS TO TAKE AT A CANTER

Horses are a good reflection of human behaviour and are the most honest givers of feedback. They are highly perceptive, unbiased and cannot be bribed. They are not hoodwinked by eloquent rhetoric, elegant clothing or insincere facial expressions. Working with horses allows us to examine our perception of ourselves and how we conduct ourselves, resulting in clarity in our communication.

Team training with horses can be combined with various seminar topics. And together with the familiar expertise of the Berlitz business trainers, every seminar becomes a true experience, with what you learn being directly implemented and emotionally embedded by means of exercises with the horses.

Target group

• Executives at all levels, organisation developers, entrepreneurs and teams

HOW TO BEHAVE SUCCESSFULLY IN NEGOTIATIONS 1KEEPING THE GOOD ARGUMENTS COMING

These days, the business partners on both sides of the negotiating table are well prepared. The processes of persuasion are becoming more and more complex and goodwill alone is no longer remotely enough to influence a counterpart’s decisions.

In this seminar, the participants analyse their negotiation style and then learn concrete techniques with which to adeptly state their own case even when faced with difficult business partners. Using example cases, they learn to cleverly build up their ‘must-have’, ‘should-have’ and ‘can-have’ arguments, take the wind out of counterarguments and handle manipulation attempts. The Harvard concept serves as the basis for fair discussions with a win-win character.

Seminar content

• Self-analysis: your personal negotiating profile• Strategic argumentation and persuasion• The four pillars of the Harvard concept• Example cases and negotiation simulation

SELF-COACHING READY FOR A SOLO MISSION

Coaching is key to developing and realising your personal goals – both at work and in your private life. Having a coach at our side helps us to recognise problems and make them tangible, draw on our own energy and become more aware of our own strengths. But how do you go about coaching yourself, without any professional outside assistance? The parameters for doing so are perfect: your inner coach is available 24/7 and no one knows you better than yourself.

Self-coaching is about asking yourself the right questions, consciously interpreting your own behaviour and using the right tools and techniques to fully exploit your potential. You will work through various topics concerning personality change and target attainment. At the same time, you will discover the effect of mental training techniques that can be used in particular wherever high performance is demanded, such as in sport. Incidentally, self-coaching comprises numerous techniques also found in conventional coaching. This seminar will show you how they can be used just as effectively on your own.

Target group

• Employees at all levels

Seminar content

• Self-motivation• Achieving goals: techniques for increasing the probability of success• Knowledge about your own change dynamic and its practical benefits• Dealing with your own blocks and temptations – overcoming your weaker self

COACHING TOOLS FOR EXECUTIVES NEW ROUTES TO EMPLOYEE-CENTRED PERSONNEL DEVELOPMENT

Leadership means more than just delegating: leadership also means accompanying, supporting and motivating. This often falls by the wayside in everyday working life. Business coaching makes countless invaluable methods and tools available, which support executives in the perception and optimisation of their personnel-related work. This seminar does not examine the philosophy and self-image of coaches, but rather proven, concrete application of expertise to advise and accompany employees in their work and to demonstrate new solutions.

Develop systemic solution-oriented question and conversation techniques to determine support needs and resource requirements in a targeted manner on the one hand. And on the other hand, practice action-oriented techniques to allow you to intervene before an employee puts up obstacles and to ensure the implementation of tasks and boost the willingness to perform.

Target group

• Executives and management trainees from all fields• Senior staff, managers and department and project managers with personnel responsibility and all

those wishing to familiarise themselves with and implement innovative ideas for staff development

Seminar content

• The leader as process facilitator• Identifying resources and obstacles by asking the right questions• Motivating by using intervention techniques• Boosting sustainability and quality of results in task implementation• Transfer to practice: applied training with coaching exercises

MY PERSONAL RESILIENCE @WORK 1 DEVELOP YOUR OWN STRATEGIES

Most of us experience opposition, setbacks and stress in our daily work due to increasing pressure to perform, interpersonal complications or simply the number of tasks we have to complete. Resilience is the mental strength a person needs in order to come out of a crisis stronger. And the good news is that resilience can be learned.

If people use certain mental techniques and positive routines, they are able to more happily tackle their day-to-day lives, even during a crisis. In this seminar, the participants find out what being resilient is all about. They assess themselves and discover their own best-practice strategies for greater resilience at work. The seminar also offers them additional stimuli for strengthening their personal resilience.

Target group

• Employees at all levels

Seminar content

• R.E.S.O.U.R.C.E. resiliency wheel• Self-assessment of situation-based resilience• Interactive stimulus workshop • Best-practice strategies and action plan for implementation

MY PERSONAL RESILIENCE @WORK 2 HANDLE CRISES BETTER AS A TEAM

This seminar builds directly on the content of the My Personal Resilience @Work 1 seminar and is aimed at team leaders and members looking to establish and improve their resilience in teamwork settings. The seminar focuses on the question of how everyone can apply resilient strategies to their day-to-day work, enabling team members to lend mutual support during crisis and stressful periods, and making everyone stronger in the wake of difficult situations.

What role does the individual team member play and how can resilience be firmly established in the team culture? The participants learn and discuss how to recognise resilience factors in others and how to offer and provide assistance. Resilient group strategies and positive day-to-day rituals are developed together and are laid down in an exemplary team charter.

Target group

• Employees at all levels

CREATIVITY TECHNIQUES THIS SEMINAR IS A GOOD IDEA

Faced with innovation and change processes, increasingly demanding customers and ever-tougher competition, creativity is a key resource for any company. However, routines, tunnel vision and the urgency of day-to-day business activities frequently inhibit existing creativity potential and prevent us from tackling tasks in new ways. And yet there is creativity that lies dormant in all of us – it’s simply a question of tapping it. The secret to this is to push inhibitions aside, take the road less travelled and be open to new things.

In this seminar, you will learn how to get out of the rut of having the same thought processes and approaches again and again. With the aid of both tried-and-tested and innovative creativity techniques, you will break through established patterns to see things from a different perspective, enabling you to recognise a problem more precisely, come up with new ideas and systematise your solution approaches. At the same time, you will practise and develop effective strategies for selecting suitable ideas.

Target group

• Employees at all levels

Seminar content

• How creativity comes about and how to promote it• The creative problem-solving process• Analytical and intuitive methods

MINDTOOLS FOR STRUCTURING YOUR WORK OVERCOME THE INFORMATION OVERLOAD

The volume of information we are confronted with is increasing at a rapid pace. We receive hundreds of new messages every day, be it by email or text message, in meetings or web conferences, or in print form. But the time we have at work in which to process all this information is limited. This is just one of the reasons why the structured handling of this information overload has become a key qualification in the modern-day working world.

We will show you how to keep track of all the information at all times. To do so, we draw on four findings of the latest memory research: scanning, structuring, stacking and safeguarding. This seminar focuses on structuring. We also cover scanning in depth in our speed reading seminar, while stacking and safeguarding are part of our memorisation techniques seminar (both on page 89).

Target group

• Employees at all levels

Seminar content

• The 4S memory circle• Structuring new information for your brain to absorb• Mind mapping and other efficient tools• Direct implementation based on everyday examples

89MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP SKILLS I PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND WORK TECHNIQUES

SPEED READING THE FORMULA 1 OF INFORMATION INTAKE

Whether it’s a question of learning something new, reading the paper or working your way through a specialist article, we are faced with such a wealth of information these days, and we have to process more text in less time to get to the core of the matter. Unfortunately, we are not always able to fully take information in when we quickly scan a long text.

The participants will be introduced to a method that enables them to process any kind of text much more efficiently. Not only will they increase the number of words they can read in a minute; they are also shown how, with the right training, they can read more consciously, take in the content more quickly and also understand the more complex interrelations within a text in order to hold on to the information for longer.

Target group

• Employees at all levels

Seminar content

• Techniques for significantly increasing your reading speed• Targeted cognition when reading• Exercises to boost concentration• Your own speed reading programme

MEMORISATION TECHNIQUESONE TO REMEMBER

Blocking out disruptions, working in a focused and targeted manner, and being able to understand complex issues in a short space of time and then explain them yourself when it matters – these are all key skills that you need in the modern working world. Whether you want to make a speech without the need for prompt cards or need to remember details for important negotiations, it comes down to the same thing.

In this seminar, the participants learn tried-and-tested methods for improving concentration and the ability to remember things, and for making information permanently stick. They are given an insight into learning and memory research, and use various exercises to boost their memory and combination skills.

Target group

• Employees at all levels

Seminar content

• What’s the best way for our memory to work?• Boosting memory skills by means of motivation, understanding, association and relaxation• Connecting the sensory channels for efficient learning• Association, focusing and mnemonic techniques

PROBLEM-SOLVING AND DECISION-MAKING 1MAKE THE RIGHT DECISION

The process of decision-making is faced with new challenges in the modern business world. Problems are highly complex, with numerous factors needing to be taken into account. Rather than fewer facts, we are often faced with information overload. What’s more, with the markets changing all the time, decisions have to be made in next to no time. In this situation, we tend to make obvious – but premature – decisions. Or we are unsure and spend too much time repeatedly analysing and planning our decisions.

This seminar focuses on effective techniques for reducing the complexity of problems by means of strategic analysis. It also teaches methods for developing potential solutions and various decision-making processes.

Target group

• Employees at all levels

Seminar content

• Analysing the problem• Exploring what’s possible• Evaluating solutions and making decisions• Make decisions or delegate?

PROBLEM-SOLVING AND DECISION-MAKING 2GROUP-BASED DECISION-MAKING PROCESSES

In this age of flat hierarchies, decision-making within an organisation, team or company is often a group-based process. While the decision may ultimately be made by one or just a few people, a number of people are generally involved in the process.

This seminar takes a look at group-based decision-making processes. The participants are given an introduction to useful techniques, skills and methods for making such a process efficient and for speeding it up.

Target group

• Employees at all levels

Seminar content

• Design of a decision-making process for a group• Avoiding the typical pitfalls• The four styles of decision-making• Models to assist groups with decision-making processes

RHETORICSPEAKING WITH AUTHORITY – PUTTING ON AN IMPRESSIVE PERFORMANCE

Words have an impact. Particularly when they are spoken convincingly and authentically. Rhetoric is the art of persuading without blathering on, of achieving objectives without arguing and of making a lasting impression without going over the top.

The seminar will begin with an analysis of your personal profile and of the occasions when you are most frequently required to speak; the training will then be structured accordingly. You gain psychological background knowledge and acquire valuable techniques for speaking, presenting arguments and asking questions. You apply these techniques directly in authentic situations, such as lectures and debates, with professional feedback, video analysis and one-on-one coaching. In this way, you gain the self-assurance to speak in front of even large groups without any preparation.

Target group

• Business people and employees in jobs in which communication skills are required• Specialists and executives

Seminar content

• Analysis of how you perceive yourself and how others see you; how we talk to one another• Your personal rhetoric profile• Speaking spontaneously – skilful improvisation• Being persuasive in debates – withstanding attacks• Friendly but resolute – asserting your own interests• Techniques vs personal style

STORYTELLING FOR BUSINESS IMPACTLIFE (AT WORK) MAKES FOR THE BEST STORIES

In everyday work, stories are an important means with which to bring facts, figures and information to life. What’s more, stories touch people emotionally, trigger creativity and embed the underlying messages in people’s heads. Storytelling can be used to optimally communicate visions, values and corporate goals, and get people on side with regard to change processes.

This seminar helps you to exploit an ancient form transferring knowledge and values. You will learn what makes a good story, how stories should be structured and how to make them exciting when told. From the start, you will work with storyboards and other useful techniques to create your own business story, which you can then relate to a small group at the end of the seminar.

Target group

• Business people• Professionals and executives• Employees in communication-based professions

Seminar content

• The power of stories in everyday work• The basic structure of storytelling• Toolkits: dos and don’ts• Using storytelling to achieve corporate goals

EFFICIENT COMMUNICATION ESTABLISHING EFFECTIVE CONNECTIONS

Efficient communication is now more important than it has ever been. It is the rock upon which businesses and careers are built and is a key component of continued success. Significant communication always entails a connection being made between the interlocutors that leaves a lasting impression – be it in a personal discussion or in e-mail correspondence.

In this seminar, you will learn to integrate efficient and respectful communication into your daily life. You will be given pointers regarding how to develop a truly pleasant and amenable communication style that leads to positive results for you and your company.

Target group

• Business people• Professionals and executives• Employees in communication-based professions

Seminar content

• Writing messages more clearly• Formulating things more concisely, more briefly and more interestingly• Using figures of speech for greater effect• Making emails and phone calls more efficient

APPRECIATIVE COMMUNICATIONAPPRECIATING SUCCESSFUL COMMUNICATION

Successful dialogue usually takes place between equals and is characterised by empathy and sensitivity. The focus is on cooperation – even in situations of stress and conflict. And it is not only our attitude towards others, but also what we think of ourselves that has a major influence on how we communicate with our co-workers, customers and superiors.

In this seminar, you will come to understand your own communication patterns by examining and shining a light on your underlying attitudes. You will also develop approaches with which to transform your behaviour under stress at work into appreciative and target-oriented conduct.

PRESENTATIONS 1 PRESENTATION IS EVERYTHING

These days, presentations should not only be impressive in terms of content – they also need to come across as entertaining and professional. This first presentation module takes a structured approach to presentations and teaches tips and tricks for successful presentation preparation and execution.

Bearing your topic and target group in mind, you will develop a winning dramaturgy that engages your audience. You will make targeted use of visualisation elements and highlights, and will learn how to use PowerPoint and other media more effectively. You will then present your results in a plenary session or as part of group work and will jointly develop best practices.

Target group

• Business people• Professionals and executives• Employees in communication-based professions

• Your content determined by your goal and target group• The four keys to understanding• Composition and dramaturgy of presentations• Less PowerPoint for more impact• Designing and optimising slides

PRESENTATIONS 2 A STRONG PERFORMANCE

When speaking to an audience, you are presenting not only your topic, but also yourself. This second presentation module therefore focuses on verbal and non-verbal skills. Whether it’s in a meeting or an oral presentation, the audience pays attention to the content and also to your body language, your intonation and the way you express yourself.

Using various exercises for rhetoric and outward appearance, the seminar participants take a closer look at how they behave in front of a group. They will give brief and spontaneous presentations, and will use the direct feedback given (including video analysis, if requested) to permanently eliminate uncertainties.

Target group

• Business people• Professionals and executives• Employees in communication-based professions

Seminar content

• ‘Don’t talk how you write’: verbal expression• ‘I see what you’re not saying’: body language• Exercises for a persuasive performance • Presentations with feedback and video analysis

HOW TO RESOLVE CONFLICTS 1 A VICTORY WITH NO LOSERS

There is all sorts of potential for conflict within a company that can be a burden on working relations and that can become a problem for everyone. Those involved can then quickly lose sight of the shared company goals. What’s the right way to handle disputes within a team and fundamentally improve working relations?

You will start by analysing your own behaviour in conflict situations using self-analysis and then develop effective strategies for de-escalation and solution-oriented understanding. You will then practise tried-and-tested ap-proaches to handling conflict using concrete examples, with everyone getting involved.

Target group

• Professionals and executives at all levels

Seminar content

• Self-analysis: my behaviour in conflict situations• Types, causes and manifestations of conflict• Coming up with win-win solutions• Effective tools for preventing and resolving conflict

HOW TO RESOLVE CONFLICTS 2 THE SOLUTION IS WITHIN YOUR GRASP

Conflicts can arise in any work environment. Conflict resolution skills are becoming more and more important in order to be able to quickly recognise and then avert the emergence, escalation or perpetuation of a conflict. How can you tackle tricky situations professionally and deal with the parties of the conflict?

One of the primary objectives of this seminar is to have the opportunity to practise. After brief revision of the first seminar, the participants are familiarised with the key elements of successful conflict resolution. These are then applied to a concrete case study. The participants are also invited to contribute cases of conflict they have experi-enced themselves to the seminar.

DEALING WITH CHANGE 1 BECAUSE THERE’S NOTHING MORE CONSTANT THAN CHANGE

Change is becoming something routine. Rapid changes to customer needs, corporate strategies, products, processes, structures and work conditions do not always constitute a positive challenge for our flexibility and can sometimes be overwhelming. It therefore stands to reason that not all change is initially welcomed with open arms.

This seminar takes a look at change from the perspective not of the management, but of the employees – in other words, from the perspective of those who are directly affected by change. The participants are given an overview of the key terms and the most frequent causes of change within a company. The focus is on the development of personal strategies for improving your own attitude towards change and your behavioural patterns within your direct work environment.

Target group

• Employees at all levels

Seminar content

• Current changes at my place of work• The reasons behind changes• Factors critical to the success or failure of change processes• Strategies for adaptation to change

DEALING WITH CHANGE 2THE EMOTIONAL SIDE OF CHANGE

Changes in the corporate structure or in processes, strategies or priorities always also entail an internal change process for the employees affected. What do I think my role within the company is? How do I structure my work? And how do I work with whom? Building on the Dealing with Change 1 seminar, this seminar will build up your repertoire of personal change strategies. You will learn how to deal with change internally, what you can tweak in order to change your inner mindset and emotional reaction, and how you can apply these strategies to your daily work environment.

Target group

• Employees at all levels

Seminar content

• Self-positioning within the change process• Internal change and dealing with emotions• Strategies to adapt emotionally to change processes, the S.C.O.P.E. strategy• Making the most of your own scope for action

FACILITATING INTERACTIVE MEETINGS 1TURNING MEETINGS INTO YOUR FAVOURITE DISCIPLINE

It takes a high degree of personal, social, organisational and methodical expertise to prepare and conduct meetings efficiently and expediently. It’s never just about the matter at hand: it’s also always a question of the willingness to work, the communication and the dynamic within the team.

Practical knowledge of discussion types and work stages helps the participants to conduct work meetings in a structured manner. Moderation techniques serve as tried-and-tested tools with which to delegate tasks, develop solutions and guarantee results. An example demonstration involving various team roles allows for reflection and transfer.

Target group

• Project managers and consultants• Managers, professionals and executives

Seminar content

• The role of the moderator: neutral or persuasive?• Moderation exercise: developing rules for a meeting• Acting as the moderator to guide the course of the discussion• Workshop techniques and visualisation tools for moderation and evaluation

FACILITATING INTERACTIVE MEETINGS 2SIMPLE SOLUTIONS FOR TRICKY MEETING SITUATIONS

Meetings frequently go beyond the scope of a conventional discussion of the status quo or straightforward information exchange. Solutions for existing challenges and projects are actively and interactively developed in meetings. This means the moderator has more to do than merely lead everyone through the meeting.

In this advanced seminar, the participants learn additional methods of interactive meeting management. It also looks at thinking about challenges in advance and taking these into account when planning meetings. Another focal point is the resolution of conflicts and other tricky situations within a meeting. In groups, the participants develop solutions for various scenarios.

Target group

• Project managers and consultants• Managers, professionals and executives

Seminar content

• Interactively managing meetings• Types of meetings and workshops• Anticipating challenges in meetings• Dealing with conflicts in meetings• Case studies and role-playing

HOW TO GIVE AND RECEIVE FEEDBACK 1SO THAT PEOPLE TAKE THINGS THE RIGHT WAY

Feedback is needed in daily work processes and meetings in order for everyone to work towards the same goals. Constructive feedback helps you to modify your self-perception and check your behaviour. But while good feedback can be extremely helpful, carelessly made criticism can be highly destructive as it results in defence and therefore conflict.

In order for feedback to be well received and for it to have an effect, the participants start by examining their own communication styles and then familiarise themselves with the rules of feedback for both the giver and receiver. They learn techniques for respectful communication and practice them in partner and group exercises.

Target group

• Executives• Project managers and team leaders

Seminar content

• Self-perception and how others perceive you: the Johari Window• Analysing your effect on others• Five approaches to respectful communication• The feedback burger• Checklists: giving and receiving feedback

HOW TO GIVE AND RECEIVE FEEDBACK 2A QUESTION OF STYLE

Feedback is one of the most important means of communication that the members and leaders of international and national teams need in order to enjoy success. The first seminar taught the effective and useful basics of giving constructive feedback. But the critical and pivotal aspect of the feedback process is how the feedback reaches the recipient. This has a lot to do with how we receive feedback ourselves.

In this advanced seminar, the participants learn how to constructively receive feedback in national and international settings and what effect their own feedback style has on others. They analyse their own work-based interaction and communication style, and learn to see things from their counterpart’s perspective. The participants actively improve their feedback style using role-playing and their own example cases.

Target group

• Executives• Project managers and team leaders

Seminar content

• The typical challenges of giving feedback• Feedback style and a common feedback space• Switching style to get your message across• B.R.I.D.G.E. – giving and receiving feedback in the feedback space• Case studies: feedback to groups

ASSERTIVENESS TRAINING 1BEING CONFIDENTLY ASSERTIVE

There are all sorts of situations in our daily working lives in which we either lose patience and get worked up or rein in our emotions and stay silent. This behaviour has a direct impact on our performance, our work relations and the chances of success, both for us as an individual and for the company as a whole.

Assertiveness is the ability to take your own needs into account without infringing on other people’s rights. In this seminar, you will learn to argue your case in front of co-workers and customers at various hierarchical levels. Drawing on a tried-and-tested grid for the analysis of interpersonal behaviour, we will develop communication techniques that make working relations beneficial for all involved.

Target group

This seminar focuses on preparing for various business situations, recognising and dealing with pitfalls, and interacting with others effectively. Using simulations and personal feedback, the participants practise how to appraise various situations and how to assertively respond to them.

This seminar provides the solution. It comprises four modules, which can also be booked individually, that teach you how to put together seminars according to your target group and how to communicate knowledge in such a way that the seminar participants understand it. You will learn important basics such as an overview of the types of instruction, planning and structuring a seminar, and adapting a seminar to a specific target group, as well as methods of creating a productive and motivational learning environment. It examines not only the specific requirements of virtual live teaching (Adobe Connect), but also conventional face-to-face training.
