5 th January 2021. Dear Parents/Cares I hope you, your family and friends continue to be well in these challenging times. I am writing to update you with the latest information regarding Lansdowne School. I am sorry not to have written to you before the start of this term, but wanted to wait for the latest guidance for special schools. The latest government guidance is that special schools will remain open. Lansdowne is a special school and is open for students to attend. However, if you wish your child to be absent from school please let us know your child will not be attending, so we can grant leave of absence because of the exceptional circumstances we are currently experiencing. We are currently putting the following plans in place to support our young people during this time. Remote Learning. 1. As with the previous lockdown we will be sending the resources students need to complete home learning, such as exercise books, pens, pencils, glue etc. 2. Home learning will consist of both on-line learning and learning packs. The learning packs will support the on-line learning and will cover all subjects, as well as guided reading. 3. The home learning packs will reflect the on-line learning and will be a power point copy of the lesson on line, with any necessary video links for students to access, as well as any associated learning activities. 4. We would encourage parents/carers and students to access the on-line learning, but understand this is not always possible. Mr A. will be providing an on-line tutorial for parents/ carers on how to use google classroom. This tutorial will be available from tomorrow. To access the tutorial please useyour child’s google classroom log-in. 5. In addition to the on-line learning and learning packs, we are sending phonics and reading games home to support students to continue to develop their reading skills. 6. Form tutors will phone each week to catch up with you to see how the home learning is progressing and to answer any questions you may have regarding home learning. 5th January 2021.

Dear Parents/Cares

I hope you, your family and friends continue to be well in these challenging times.

Mr A. will be providing an on-line tutorial for parents/carers on how to use google classroom.

7. We are continuing to develop our on-line learning offer and will keep you updated on the changes we make for home learning over this time.

Testing

You should have received a letter from us explaining how the school will be carrying out lateral flow tests for students and all adults working in the school. Testing is expected to start within the next couple of days once the staff involved in this process have completed their training. We understand not all students will be able to administer the test themselves. We are looking to setting up a further test site outside of the school building for parents/carers to assist their child to carry out the test if that is helpful. Again, we will keep you updated.

Over the next few days we will be sending further letters explaining how the home learning will work.

If you have any questions or concerns please phone or email Mr Juckes or Ms Mitchell.

Thank you for your continued support. This is a worrying time, but I know we will continue to work together to support the learning for our young people.

With very best wishes

L.R. Adams
