Hi everyone. Id like to tell you a little about myself as we begin this learning journey together. One of the joys of my life is travel. Here you see a photo of me at the Charles Darwin Research Station in the Galapagos Islands of Ecuador. That was a wonderful trip.My life tends to revolve around my family. Pam & I have been married for 20 years. Danielle is a freshman at Andrews University while Jeremy is a freshman at Andrews Academy.

I was born in Malvern, Arkansas and spent my first 18 years in Arkansas before coming to Andrews University for my Bachelors degree. While growing up I was blessed to have both parents, who I still get to visit at least twice a year. I was the youngest of four children. My sisters, my brother, and I all ALL teachers. My newest hobby is distance running. I started because I was in such bad physical condition I had to do something. I started in April 2002 by walking and gradually added little bits of running mixed with walking. By June I was able to start training for my first marathon. On October 13 I completed the Chicago Marathon in 5 hours 33 minutes. It was great fun actually. My second marathon was the Quad Cities Marathon in the Moline, Illinois area. I was able to meet my goal of finishing in less than 5 hours, with a final time of 4 hours 57 minutes. Thats the picture of me at the Quad Cities finish. In May this year I hope to complete my third marathon in Madison, Wisconsin.

I keep running now because I find it enjoyable and relaxing.

As I mentioned on the title slide, I really enjoy travel. But I must admit, I really enjoy staying home as well.

Two of my favorite pass times are reading and listening to music for enjoyment. I like a wide variety of both both literature and musical styles. My current favorite CD in Charlotte Churchs Prelude.I would be a professional student if it paid well enough! I have two degrees from Andrews University and a Masters Degree from Southwestern Adventist University in Texas. My content emphases throughout my degrees have been science & English education. I am in my 9th year as a professor here at Andrews University. I have served as director of the MAT program, the teacher education program, and now the curriculum and instruction program. I spent 4 years as chair of the Department of Teaching & Learning between 1998 and 2002.

Before coming to Andrews I was an elementary school teacher for 13 years. Twelve of those years were in multigrade classrooms. I have taught in Ohio, Arkansas, Michigan, and Louisiana. My primary research/creative project is the Intel-ebration Expedition program. I started this program with Sharon Prest (now a professor in the Andrews College of Technology). The program attempts to link classrooms around the world with each other and an expedition team out in some location.

Our most recent expedition was in the United States following the Cherokee Trail of Tears. We are preparing for an expedition in May 2005.

Click on the link if you want to look at our Trail of Tears Expedition web site.In addition to creating the curriculum and operating the Intel-ebration Expeditions program I am also involved in conducting case study research on online adventure programs; investigating college students perceptions of the integration of faith & learning in the classes I teach; and conducting program evaluations for various entities including the Profile study for the North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists.

Now that you know me a little better, do you have any questions you would like to ask? If so, go to the Discussion Area of the course web site and post your question there by clicking on Compose.
