GEOLOGY INTEREST GROUPZoom Meeting Presentation by resident Dwight Jennison, PhDWednesday, August 19 at 1:30 PM

TOPIC: Mirehaven and New Mexico GeologyDESCRIPTION: We have two rifts (only one is ancient), numerous volcanoes (a super-volcano to the north and, in the south, a new one on the way), faults and earthquakes, sea shells on top of the Sandia Mountains, and stream gravel with a rainbow

of colors just inside the petroglyph gates. How did all this come about? Now we know. Join Zoom meeting: https://us02web.zoom.us, Meeting ID: 841 8435 5262, Password: 541645, Or dial in: + 1 253 215 8782

GARDEN INTEREST GROUP:Here are some Gardening Tips for August:

You will want to be deadheading flowering annuals to keep them blooming until frost. This is also a good time to save the seeds from your favorites. Once a flower head has dried, you can clip it and put it into a paper bag which you have labeled with the color

and variety. When the seeds are dry enough to fall from the seed head, store them in a more permanent container. Do remove leaf and flower debris from around and under your plants so the slugs and insects and disease spores can’t find a new home. If you have climbing roses, make sure all new growth is securely fastened to the supports for when the winds come through with summer storms. This is also a good time to plant spring bulbs, which will benefit from some humus or organic material in their planting sites.
