Two weeks ago we saw the beginning of the grace war. “teachers” from Jerusalem came to Antioch with a simple message (command?): Gentiles must be cir- cumcised and keep the Law of Moses or they couldn’t be saved. This started a heated debate with Paul and Barnabas arguing against this, based on their per- sonal experiences in converting dozens (or maybe hundreds or even thousands) of Gentiles in Gala- tia. Now, they all go to Jerusalem to set things right with the lead- ership there. Ultimately, it will be the leader of the very Jewish church in Jerusalem who makes the difference. This morning we see the victory of grace over legalism. Today marks the approaching end of my time with you. I will speak today (twice) and again next Sunday. On the 21st, the first candidate will come in to speak. Be sure to be here to meet and hear him. I will conclude my preaching ministry here on the 28th.
