VIEWING ACTIVITIES* Show the video. As students view this segment, ask students to count the number of times they hear the question, "¿De dónde viene usted?"(Answer: 5 times)
* Show the scene again, this time, pausing the video after Norman asks the question "¿De dónde viene usted?" Ask students to repeat the question. At another time, make this activity interactive, by having students answer Norman with the correct country.
PRE-VIEWING ACTIVITIES
* The teacher must act both as interviewer and the person being interviewed for this activity. Pretending to hold a microphone, say, "¿De dónde viene usted?" to an imaginary guest. Then, taking the part of the guest, hold up the flag of Greece, for example, and say, "Yo vengo de Grecia." Repeat this "interview," substituting other countries.
* Display the world map and flags of the countries mentioned in Lesson 16. Point to the United States, or its flag, and say, "Yo vengo de los Estados Unidos. Yo vivo en Washington, D.C.." Choose another country and flag, and repeat these sentences, substituting the name of that country.

* As students become more proficient in Spanish, it is fun to devise a "micrologue." This is a mini speech consisting of a series of 5 or 6 sentences about oneself. Each student can practice this "micrologue" about him or herself and memorize it. Here is an example:
"Me llamo_______ Tengo ______años. Vengo de _______ Vivo en_______ Me gusta_______."
POST-VIEWING ACTIVITIES
* Place the flags of France, Italy, Germany, Greece, Japan, United Kingdom and the United States on the board. Place the flash card "Vengo de…" on the board and drill pronunciation. Then conduct an interview with students. Tell them that they may "venir de" any of these countries. For example:
Student 1: "¿De dónde vienes?" Student 2: "Yo vengo de Inglaterra."
Students may refer to the flags for help with answers.
* Use Activity Sheets 17a, 17b and 17c. Do this as a class. First, read about Norman and talk about where he is from, his age, what he likes to eat. At this point you can explain to students that "I live in…" means "Yo vivo en (a particular city)." Ask students to fill out information about themselves on the blank lines.
