PRE-VIEWING ACTIVITIES

* Show the scene. Tell the class that the characters are talking not only about themselves, buabout each other. Ask them to listen closely for the words "tü" / "él" / "ella."* Ask the class to listen for the following information. What complimentary things do Bob andSylvia say about each other? What does Corvax say about himself?

OBJECTIVES

* If the class has learned about pronouns, ask if anyone can give an example of a pronoun (in English). Say that the video is going to introduce some Spanish pronouns.

VIEWING ACTIVITIES

* Write the words "él" and "ella" on the board. Point to the pictures or puppets of the MUZZY characters and describe them by saying, "Él es Muzzy . Él es grande." "Él es Corvax . Él es listo." "Él es el Rey. Él es fuerte." "Ella es la Reina ." "Ella es Sylvia. " "Ella es hermosa." "Él es Bob ." "Él es valiente." Look directly at Sylvia and say, "Sylvia, tú eres hermosa."

* Unit 1 - Watch and Play - I've got a motorbike - Game "a".

GRAMMAR NOTE* In Spanish the double "ll" is pronounced like y in "yes."* "Tú" and "él" both have accent marks.

* Practice the three verb forms by tossing a beanbag. For example, the teacher says, "yo" then tosses the beanbag to a student, who must answer by saying, "soy." Do this for the other pronouns: "tú / eres; él / es; ella / es."

* Use Activity Sheets 4a, 4b, 4c, 4d and 4e.* Play "Charades" using "él" and "ella" when guessing the answers, as in "Ella es hermosa; Él es listo." When a student has finished, encourage with lots of applause. (¡Aplaudan!)

* Put students in groups of two. Say that they have two minutes to practice introducing themselves. "Yo soy" and the other person, "él / ella es" The pairs need to switch off, so that each person has a chance to speak. (Depending on confidence level, students could also add a descriptive sentence about the person they are introducing.) Then invite the groups to present themselves to the class. Be sure to request applause after each set of introductions! Students can even take a bow before sitting down.After each pair has introduced themselves, the teacher can reinforce "tú eres" by looking at each student, and saying, "Oh, tú eres (name) ." Students respond by agreeing. "Sí, yo soy (name) ."

ONLINE EXERCISES

* Review what Bob and Sylvia said about each other: ("Ella es hermosa." "Él es valiente." "Él es listo.") What does Corvax say about himself? ( "Yo soy listo. Listo. Listo." )

* Introduce yourself and another person. The teacher models these sentences by choosing a boy to come to the front of the class and saying, "Yo soy (teacher's name) ." Use "Él es (male student's name) ." Repeat this exercise with a girl, by saying "Ella es (female student's name) ."

POST-VIEWING ACTIVITIES* Teach the meanings of "él" and "ella" by placing the MUZZY character pictures on the board. Have students classify them as "él" or "ella."
