Safety ROAD SAFETY

This is a continuing theme in our push for a safer PB. With the all the near miss and incident reports in for last period we can see the biggest risk to our people remains the humble automobile.

The Ford Falcon Ute has been removed from serviceDue to the current condition of the vehicle and the ongoing incidents related to it’s use.

We are continuing to get reports of near misses from staff crossing between the two building. Most of these relate to vehicles running red lights. The council has been formally approached regarding increasing safety at this intersection. We will keep you up to date on as more information comes through.

If you use a vehicle for site work please be aware that the log books have been updated. They now contain a separate log book for recording of mileage and a checklist for vehicle inspections. This change will bring us inline with the AP business and to ensure any warning signs of problems are caught early.

PursuitsREID HIGHWAY/ALEXANDER INTERCHANGE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCT TENDER

We have been notified that the Georgiou Group/PB team have been shortlisted for the Reid Highway/Alexander Drive Interchange Design and Construct Tender. This is a major undertaking and the first such project for PB with Main Roads in WA. Congratulations to Simon Turner and his team who worked very hard on the bid document.

FREMANTLE TRAFFIC BRIDGEWe have agreed to run in a large team for the Design and Construct bid for the Fremantle Traffic Bridge, a job likely to be bid in 2010.

ASKAP RADIO ASTRONOMY PROJECTWe are contemplating how PB can enhance its chances of working further with CSIRO on the ASKAP radio astronomy project in Geraldton. Paul Reed has met with CSIRO in Sydney and is working with Wayne Tobin on how we can provide an alternative and innovative bid to the client. PB is well regarded by the client through the efforts of Stephen Flux and his team as well as our environmental services team led out of Sydney.

MAIN ROADS INTEGRATED SERVICES We are about to commence preparartion of an EoI for two of the Integrated Services Agreement packages to be offered by Main Roads in conjunction with Thiess Services. This is the first step in a 12 month program to get appointed for at least 5 years to one or more of these packages.

PRESTRESSED CONCRETE WATER TANKWe are expecting to receive an invitation to bid for a prestressed concrete water tank at Harvey under our ongoing Design and Construct Panel appointment in conjunction with Georgiou Group. This follows on from our combined success on the Bullabulling tank where Jason Gray, Peter Statton in Adelaide and their teams have and continue to work hard on this challenging project.

Our Perth PGN Rep, Tung Nguyen, is off on annual leave next week for 10 weeks as he sees the world. In his absence, Stephen Hart will be the acting Perth PGN rep while Tung is away. Please support Stephen in this role and direct any queries regarding the PGN to him until Tung returns.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT WEEK IS NEXT WEEK

Yes, that’s right – next week is Community Involvement Week (CIW). CIW is a global PGN initiative which is aimed at raising awareness of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) – in simple terms, helping others or things that that are more needy than you! We are all extremely fortunate to have the things we have, so let’s take some time so think about others who need a bit of help. Throughout Australia-Pacific, CIW will be celebrated next week and is aligned with PB’s values ‘behaving ethically’ and ‘acting in a socially and environmentally responsible manner’.

So just some quick points about CIW next week:

There will be clothing bins placed in both the Alvan St and Miramar offices next week for you to deposit your old clothes. These clothes will be donated to the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal. So why not clear up some space in your wardrobe and help keep someone warm this winter!

Thank you for your overwhelming support for the Red Cross blood drive! All the spots have now been filled. Your generosity to share your blood will save the lives of others! Well done heroes.

It’s not too late to take part in the Synergy Gallipoli Fun Run on this Sunday morning starting at 9.00am at Kings Park. Join Olympic gold medallist, Steve Hooker, to pay tribute to our ANZAC spirit and raise money for Athletics WA and the RSL.

The Greening Australia presentation that was originally scheduled for Wednesday 22nd April is postponed. Keep an eye out for when it will be rescheduled to.

For the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation Sausage Sizzle on Friday at 12.30 in Market Square, please invite anyone you wish to join in. It’s school holidays at the moment so why not bring your kids? Perhaps bring a client or family/friends? Please RVSP to Steve Hart before Thursday 23rd April for catering purposes. There’ll also be a collection tin at reception for all of next week to collect money for the PMH Foundation.

Looking forward to your participation, support and generosity throughout CIW next week. If you have any questions, please see Steve Hart.

EP Paper Competition Presentation

Just a reminder that there will be a lunch-time presentation today at 12.00pm in the Miramar Boardroom about the EP Paper Competition by the PGN and Ed Oldmeadow (past winner of the competition). If you want to know more about the competition or are interested in winning a free trip to New York, then attendance is a must. Lunch will be provided.

For more info on the competition, please visit http://corp.hub.pbworld.com/KN/AG/PGN/EP_PaperComp/default.aspx, have a look at the bright yellow posters around the offices or contact Lucy Gowdie ([email protected]). Good Luck!

Professional Recognition Program RecipientsBRIAN MCMAHON has recenty been recognised as Professional Associate for Transportation & Land Use Planning.

During its April 1st meeting, the Board of Directors approved the Professional Recognition Program’s recommendations for the Professional Associates program, where four new Principal Professional Associates are among the 91 titles awarded.

This represents an impressive total of 126 of our PB colleagues being recognized for their ongoing development of their professional capabilities and achievements that enhances PB’s technical excellence.
