As with any urban environment, safety can be a concern, and Milwaukee is no exception. If you are alert and follow a few simple rules, you’ll be able to enjoy all that Milwaukee has to offer at all hours.

X��Be aware of your surroundings.

X��Express yourself with confidence and control.

X��Trust your instincts. Your gut reactions are often a good gauge of the relative safety of an area. Let your roommates and friends know where you are and a rough estimate of when you’ll return. This way, if something does happen to you, there are people who can try to reach you or seek the proper assistance.

X��Don’t go alone. There is safety in numbers, and you’ll feel and be safer by walking, running and exploring with a friend rather than by yourself.

X��Take well-lit paths when walking at night. The better lit the area, the better chance that you’ll be able to assess your surroundings.

X��Have your keys/MUID ready before entering your residence hall or apartment.

X��Take advantage of the services that the Marquette Department of Public Safety has to offer. These include:

X��L.I.M.O. service from 5:30 p.m. until 3 a.m. (DPS will give rides until 7:30 a.m.)

X��Safety Patrol Service (“Yellow Jackets”)from 5:30 p.m. until 2 a.m.

U-PASSMarquette students can receive a U-PASS, which provides students with unlimited use of the Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS). The pass enables you to ride the bus at any time of the day, seven days a week, and is very convenient with roughly 65 routes throughout Milwaukee County. To ride the bus you must show your MUID along with your U-PASS.
