  • CONCLUSIONS

    1. Long term decline in domestic coastal traffic

    2. From 34% in 1975, domestic traffic now 13% of total UK port traffic

    3. 2017 domestic traffic at 90.5mt was the lowest volume this century

    4. Declining volume of liquid bulk shipments is the major cause

    5. However a number of domestic market sectors demonstrate volume growth

    6. Sea dredge aggregates are a major sector within Dry bulks

    7. Project cargo to & from offshore energy installations is a growth sector

    8. Container traffic in TEUs a source of growth, but a very mixed picture by port

    9. Intermodal rail freight services are a major competitor in the LoLo sector
