Latitude and Longitude are a system of imaginary lines drawn on the earth’s surface that are used to
located any place on the Earth.

But what is Latitude?

Latitude lines measure the distance North or South of the equator.
The lines run parallel to the equator.
Where is 0 degree?
The equator is 0 degree latitude.
It is an imaginary belt that runs halfway between the North Pole and the South Pole.

How to Remember Latitude
Latitude lines go around the earth.
Latitude lines are flat add flat in front of latitude to get flatitude.
Hold your hands out from side to slide and those are latitude lines.
But what about Longitude??
Longitude
Longitude is the measure of distance East or West of the prime meridian.
Longitude lines run east and west from the poles.
Where is 0 degree?
The prime meridian is 0 degrees longitude. This imaginary line runs through the United Kingdom, France, Spain, western Africa, and Antarctica.

Hold one hand up above your head and the other down beside your body and these are longitude lines.
How to write Latitude and Longitude

Longitude: 170ºW20ºE
Written together: 40ºN, 70ºW
Latitude is always written first.
Latitude and longitude is written in degrees.
Latitude includes either N or S after the degree symbol.
Longitude includes either W or E after the degree symbol.
