The name “Latitudes” has a dual meaning or purpose...

Latitudes: 1) Areas in the world where we source unique products and

2) Extending freedom and opportunity through business.

Most of the world is stuck in a cycle of poverty, corruption, and lack of education. Often, financial gain is offered only through

questionable or illegal avenues which result in personal ruin and the collapse of community. Traditional skills and crafts are typically

neglected, and often lost, because they are not viable enough to provide adequate income and long term sustainability.

Latitudes provides a genuine business outlet to artisans in isolated areas around the world. We desire to have a positive impact in their

families and community through micro-business enterprises. We create and encourage an environment of support for the artisans that

work in these businesses by giving them a market to sell their handmade products. In addition to buying products we offer training in business management, help develop new products, and provide basic education for our workers and their family where we can. We want to value and encourage the artisans in a way that honors their culture and promotes ethical business practices. We emphasize fair

wages and treat the artisans with dignity and respect. Our work provides a foundation for future generations to operate within a

growing and changing global marketplace.

Uniquely Hand Made Olive Wood Pieces from Jordan

From The Earth, was founded in 2008 by an American family who wanted to make a difference in a place that is often forgotten by the West. The husband, a former executive manager with FedEx, saw the opportunities as well as the need for new businesses in Jordan. Initially the company began making handmade greeting cards with just a couple local women and have since expanded their product lines and grown the number of employees to 15 and counting. Additionally, they have partnered with local artisans to open new markets for them both inside and outside of Jordan.

From The Earth is committed to build into each employee integrity, empowerment, and excellence as well as to the development of local marginalized women by encouraging them to acquire new job skills. The women who work with From The Earth have access to educational opportunities, skills refinement, and language training. All From The Earth products are produced following fair trade principles, which mimic the heart of the business.

It is the goal of From The Earth to be able to support more individuals and continue partnering with local artisans to help provide more meaningful jobs to the communities it reaches across the Middle East.

Opportunities for Women in Afghanistan

OneMaker exists to be a tangible expression of love to poor women and girls that are vulnerable to trafficking or other exploitation. This is done by giving them opportunities with education and jewelry production. Two pieces are currently part of the Latitudes Collection: The King's Garden bracelet and the Teardrop Set.

The King’s Garden Bracelet was created with over 1,000 tiny glass beads. This exquisite bracelet represents King Zahir Shah’s beautiful gardens. The King was known for peace, educational opportunities for women, and creating a democratic government in Afghanistan.

The Teardrop Necklace and Earrings Set represents the three decades of war in Afghanistan that have brought severe suffering, fear, struggle for basic survival, death of a spouse and other family members, and loss of dreams. This unique set is handmade by Afghan women who have shed many tears and are in the process of learning how to heal.

SAHAYAK Empowering Women in the

Slums of Northern India

Sahayak was started in 2006 in a community of slum women living on $1.50-$2.00 a day. This project began with literacy work amongst a small group of the slum women that is now employing former students of the program through jewelry making.

Sahayak, meaning “one who assists to complete the given task” is continually trying to create new products and marketing strategies for these women. The business provides

the resources to send children to school, install much needed water pumps, run a medical clinic 2 days a week, and most importantly, empower women living in poverty.

Through Sahayak, women have been able to take loans and re-pay them back by working in the business. One woman used the loan to buy a cycle rickshaw for her husband so that he could earn a fair wage. Other women have rebuilt their ancestral homes in their villages. These women earn a respectable name for themselves in a community where women have few rights or opportunities.

The ambition of Sahayak is to grow the business and the interpersonal relationships of the women as they develop as a community.

TABBY’S Bringing Hope to Women in

Central India

The Tabby’s project, establish in March 2013 in central India, seeks to benefit women infected with HIV/AIDS by offering job training and employment.   Due to social stigmas and misunderstanding of how HIV is

transmitted, people in India with HIV are often rejected by their families and communities.  Tabby’s offers dignity and hope to women who have been rejected and alienated because of their medical condition.

Tabitha was a woman who invested her life serving widows and those in need around her. She took love, truth, and compassion to those in need. Following her example, and her name, Tabby’s desire is that women throughout India will be encouraged and empowered.

By promoting vocational training, a safe working environment, and a sense of community, Tabby’s provides a unique opportunity for women to find hope as they earn an income and provide for their families.

Tabby's products are made from repurposed silk Sari fabric which is cut into strips and skillfully patched together to create beautiful purses, stuffed animals, and more.  A Sari is the traditional dress for women in the region, and is worn by wrapping a long cloth around the waist then draping the uniquely embroidered and stitched edge of the fabric around the shoulder.

3Strands was created to provide an opportunity for young women in Cambodia who have been rescued from a horrific life of sex trafficking. Each bracelet is hand woven by the young women who receive trauma counseling and are able to be housed on site during the rehabilitation process.

The three pieces of cord on the bracelet symbolize the freedom, love, and empowerment these young women experience. Every bracelet displays one red seed from the pods of Sandalwood trees. The scarlet seeds represent the beauty in each of the women who have been freed. One would never know that these gorgeous seeds come from tree pods which eventually dry up and fall to the ground, forgotten, and trampled.

Latitudes and 3Strands share a common vision of extending freedom, love, and empowerment to women worldwide in the bondage of sex trafficking.
