As I write this, I am at a rest area on I-80 between Casey and Adair, Iowa. A gigantic windmill propeller blade stands guard over the facilities, while in the distance actual

windmills can be seen rotating serenely above the elds of corn and soybeans. Vacationers, truckers, families, businessmen – travelers of all sorts ow by in a constant stream of humanity while these giant turbines quietly harness and harvest the power of the wind for the benet of the people of these United States.

Along with Susan and Emilee, I'm nearing the end of a two-week road trip that started just before the NACC. It has taken us to Joliet, Illinois; Terre Haute and Indianapolis, Indiana; Davenport, Montezuma and Fertile, Iowa; Albert Lea and Austin, Minnesota; and will end tomorrow as we make our way home from tonight's destination, Council Blus, Iowa. It's always good to be on the road again and to touch base with so many faithful LATM supporters. We will be on another two-week road trip in August with stops in Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, Florida and Louisiana.

By the time you read this, LATM will have turned 22 years old. In those 22 years, we have helped publish 747 titles in 62 dierent languages, totaling over 1,660,000 books printed. We recently passed other notable milestones: our 1,000th project request, and the $750,000 mark in contributions from our Book Club members. LATM continues to help "bring the books" to missionaries and national church leaders around the world. We are working our way through the 123 requests in our 2014 Publishing

Plan. Our goal is to complete 65 of those projects before the end of December. We are a bit behind that goal, as we have completed 22 so far, but many more are in process, and I am holding out hope to reach the goal before December 31st.

is issue of World News focuses on our partnerships with several workers in SE Asia. Most of these partners are national workers whose names you might not recognize, but who love the Lord and love their people, and have been faithfully ministering in relative obscurity for many years. Many hold doctorates, speak several languages and have brought thousands of people to the Lord. Unsung heroes. I'm so glad LATM can help give them a voice to draw attention to their need for ministry resources – books! – that will help them help their people Find, Follow and Serve Jesus. It is, ultimately, the message of Jesus that makes the only dierence worth living for, and these fellow laborers know that.

On the world scale, there is also a constant stream of humanity passing by. Men and women, boys and girls, from every nation, tribe, people and language. In a way, LATM is like the windmills, quietly harnessing and harvesting the power of books for the benet of the citizens of the Kingdom of God.

LATM supporters in Texas said, "We made the decision to give to LATM on where could we reach the most diverse set of people. LATM certainly reaches out to all kinds and all nations! Love that!"We love that too. Our partners in ministry are scattered around the globe. Some of them train leaders, some put the Bible into the hands of people who have never had it in their own language, some rebuild Christian faith and worldview in places that have undermined the church for generations, some preach the Good News to people who have never heard the name of Jesus, some challenge cultures that were established centuries ago on faiths that deny Christ, some shine light into corners of moral darkness and despair. Some are in highly developed nations, some are in places where life is, let's say, rudimentary, some are in cities, some are in the countryside, some are welcomed where they are, some are threatened, some have unbearably cold winters, some have unbearably hot summers. In every case and in every place, the books amplify both the amount of ministry that can be accomplished, and the effectiveness of that ministry. Books work. We've said that before, and we'll probably say it again.

I hope that you, like our friends in Texas, love what books can do.

Bob and Peggy Kuest

In 1999 we took a major career shift from being a senior minister for a church to being a traveling teacher with New Mission Systems International. Working with national led missions we travel to several countries throughout the year teaching in their preacher training schools and/or holding seminars for local church leaders. Since our journey began, we have had the privilege of teaching in thirty dierent countries; many of them on multiple occasions.

As we traveled, two realities struck us hard. First was the lack of learning opportunities for local leaders. Second was the absence of books available in the language of church leaders. What books we found were published in English and sold at a cost that made them unobtainable. For instance, the rst study books we discovered in Myanmar came at a cost of one or two months' income for the average national. We began to seek a solution to the problem of making books available in local languages at a price in which leaders did not have to choose between a book and feeding their family.

We discovered this could be accomplished if we could get Christian authors to write for the needs of the people, publish in a way that authors controlled the copyrights and were willing to forfeit royalties. It was at this point that we were introduced to Literature And Teaching Ministries (LATM).

We are limited by time and governments as to where we can travel and teach. However, books face no such restrictions. LATM has helped to publish my book, Uncommon Leadership, into four of the twelve languages in which it is available. e rst project with LATM was in the Lisu language. Copies of this book for Myanmar and ailand have also made their way into China and Laos. LATM also helped publish the book in Nepali and it is being distributed in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, China, Tibet and India. Our days of travel will come to an end; but the books will remain in circulation among leaders.–Bob Kuest

ARABICCommentary on Acts, volume 2 edited by Safaa Fahmi et al. (Book Club February 2013)This is the second in the Arabic Bible Commentary Series which LATM’s field partner Safaa Fahmi is co-authoring and editing. Safaa's ministry in Egypt

reaches North Africa and the Middle East, where these books will find usefulness. This was our Book Club project in February 2013. About this commentary series Safaa says, Most of the commentaries available in Arabic are translations. This set will be the f irst original Arabic Bible commentaries. It will be interesting and easy to use because it is being written in today’s language.

CHINESEWing Wong was president of the 2011 International Conference on Missions and travels often to his native China. Wing requested help from LATM for the cost of reprinting a two useful evangelism booklets. LATM was able to help Wing print 5,000 copies of Live Forever! and 10,000 copies of God's Good News for You (Living Water).

Live Forever! by Wing WongWing says, Live Forever! is specially designed for Easter. It starts with searching questions about death. It shows the way to conquer the fear and doom of death, and ends on

the high note of the New Heaven and New Earth and an invitation to the readers to accept Jesus now! This is one of our high-demand booklets from church leaders in China. It is most effective for the elderly. Many Christians in China have been using it to win their parents and grandparents to Christ. Last year, we printed 3000 copies and all were gone. Church people put a couple of Living Water and Live Forever! in their purses or pockets and use them when the opportunity comes.

God's Good News for You (Living Water) by Wing WongIt is a well-designed booklet with colorful illustrations to point people back to their loving, giving and all powerful creator. It has step by step instructions for accepting Christ into one's life. These 10,000 booklets will be sent to over 10 provinces in China, and Hong Kong and Taiwan. We first printed 2000 of these in 2000 and all were gone in less than two months. We printed 3000 and 5000 respectively for last two years because of our limited funds. Thanks for LATM's consideration to help us print more booklets.

HINDICommentary on Revelation by Dr. Indu Lall (Book Club November 2013)This was the first commentary on Revelation in Hindi ever published, and is still the only one. Ajai Lall says, There is a great need for another printing of the

Commentary on Revelation. Leaders have said this is a great book in understanding Revelation. We are grateful to LATM for making it a Book Club project. This commentary is blessing many lives, families, ministries and congregations.

KACHINKachin Hymns of Praise (Book Club October 2013)The Kachin people in northern Myanmar (Burma) have a long history of political and military conflict with neighboring forces, and face struggles today in a country widely known for oppression and intolerance.

Field partner David M. in Thailand says, Unrest and f ighting has caused villagers to leave their homes, f ields and belongings. The people need comfort and hope – and the Church has a major part in helping

during these times. Hymns of Praise can strengthen and encourage Christians, especially refugees and internally displaced persons in and near Kachin State, and even across the border in China.

God and Man: 45 Chronological Stories by David DaleAuthor David Dale is excited to see this resource in printed form. He writes, This is a set of 45 Bible stories to be shared in an oral format. The book is for reference use by literate learners. It also will contain an audio CD of the stories for use by non-literate learners. These

stories help communicate the Bible message to those who have never understood it before, and help to establish a Biblical worldview in those who study. Each story is a summary of the Biblical narrative that connects the dots from creation to Christ and the second coming. It is designed to be used in small groups and house churches by native Lao speakers. It will also be a basis for translating into other minority languages in Laos.

LISUA Study on the Book of Acts by Dr. Philip NgwaphaChris DeWelt, Wade Landers and Phil Casey made a trip to Thailand, Laos and Cambodia in 2008. During their time in Chiang Mai, Thailand, they hosted a publishers’ conference at North

Burma Christian Mission’s literature center. Phil explained the publishing process from an “outsider’s” viewpoint, and encouraged those present to submit their projects to proofreaders and editors who would make their books better. David Morse commented that this publishers’ conference had a positive effect. One of the participants was Dr. Philip Ngwapha. He holds degrees from Cincinnati Christian University, Lincoln Christian Seminary and Ashland Theological Seminary. As a professor at the Lisu Bible Institute, he has a heart for providing Bible teaching materials in Lisu for the many teachers without teaching materials in Burma, China and Thailand. LATM is honored to help with the publication of some of Dr. Ngwapha’s books.A Study on the Book of Acts in Lisu is the second book in a planned series. It is a compact study, designed for readers who are seeing some of the books of the Bible for the first time and need a good grounding in what they are all about. It is intended for class room use, and short-term Lisu Bible study schools in Thailand, Myanmar, China and India.

MAASAIVision Led Church by Paul HighfieldPaul writes, This book is about leading the church with vision and planning. It emphasizes strategies and motivation for developing a Holy Spirit inspired vision for the church. Proverbs from the Maasai culture are used

to make it relevant. This is the second printing. We have received reports of how this helped churches plan more and have a vision for the future. There is an ongoing need in Maasai land for churches who have a vision and plan for the future. We are excited that these books are helping this become reality.

Divisions of the Bible and the Ten Commandments by Paul HighfieldPaul writes, The book explains the 10 commandments in a deep way, emphasizing that: (1) We need each of the commandments today as an ethical base for our lives, (2) We cannot follow these commandments on our

own strength, (3) It is the grace of God that saves us, not following the commandments perfectly. There is a need for this reprint, for the Maasai to know a way to view the commandments that is not legalistic, but focuses on their deep spiritual meaning.

22 New Book Projects!

MALAYALAMThirteen Lessons in Christian Doctrine by Denver Sizemore (Book Club April 2012)C.T. Abraham writes, This is a valuable scriptural resource to explain the fundamental doctrines in the Word of God. Since Indian Christianity is mostly affected by man-made traditions, this book in Malayalam (one of the leading languages in Southern India) will lead traditional Christians into Biblical knowledge of God and Salvation as per the Scripture. Thus our people will come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

MIZOHistory of Chittagong Hill Tracts by Mr. Laldova (Book Club July 2013)The History of the Chittagong Hill Tracts, explores the pre-1900s work of pioneer missionaries in Bangladesh

to tell the church’s history in the Chittagong Hill Tracts province. It will help the Mizo people understand their ethnic identity. Besides the immediate use in the four mission schools, and even public schools, the book will bless Mizo-speaking people across the borders in Chin State, Myanmar and Mizoram, India. Roughly one million people speak Mizo.

POLISHA Sketch of Old Testament Theology by Dr. Paul KisslingLATM's Field Partner in Poland, Michal Weremiejewicz, writes: This has been published in cooperation with Warsaw Christian Bible Institute

and LATM. It is a great help in getting a clear Old Testament understanding in the midst of the growing interest in the Old Testament message we face today. The book will be useful for students, preachers and all Christians in Poland. We remember Paul and Cathy Kissling’s involvement in Christian mission in Poland for over twenty years.

ROMANIANLonging for the Good by Dr. Patrick NullensThe first request for help to publish this book came in 2007 when the author was adjunct professor in the TCM International Institute. Progress on this project had many ups and downs over the years. Written by Dr. Patrick Nullens, now serving as Rector of Evangelische Theologische Faculteit, Leuven, Belgium, this book was finally published through a partnership of the Romanian Bible Society and Pleroma Publishing. LATM's role in the project was to fund its translation from Dutch to Romanian, and to purchase a quantity of this text for use by Romanian students of TCM International Institute.

RUSSIANJoy of Apocalypse by Sergei GolovinSergei says, Due to decades of propaganda, people in the former Soviet Union have a lot of strange ideas about the book of Revelation. So it raises more confusion than the encouragement it is supposed to. This devotion book will

address these points specif ically and will be a useful supplement to the translated ones published earlier.

Scientists of God by Alexander VyalovThis book is a collection of biographies of famous scientists with the focus on the impact their Christian beliefs made on their research. In particular, it highlights the details most important in the context of post-communist culture. During several generations, people in the former Soviet Union were brainwashed with the idea that an intelligent person could not believe in God, that Science and the Church were always enemies, and all Science "founding fathers" were atheists. Readers of God's Design textbooks are often surprised to f ind out the famous scientists they had heard about were Christians. The truth on this issue

will remove considerable obstacles that keep post-communist "Science worshipers" away from the Bible.

SOMALI28 Days with Matthew by Don TingleAuthor Don Tingle writes: There are few Somali Christians in the world. They need literature in their language for spiritual growth. This little book gives them a

devotional guide to the Gospel of Matthew to read over 28 days. It has been designed for Somali Christians to give to Muslims who are interested in learning about the gospel but don't know where to start. We plan to distribute the book in North America, Europe, and Africa among Somalis.

SPANISHChristian Sexuality by Fernando SotoPerhaps the most divergent views in the church have to do with sexuality. Fernando Soto handles the topic with respect, sympathy, and with the Bible as the standard. He teaches by example and precept, using reason and the love of the Lord to persuade. Fernando counsels and encourages people in different situations and stages of their lives. Since the world seems unable to discern which sexual expressions are wholesome and which are not, Christian Sexuality will help people learn to give counsel according to the Word of God.

Baptism: A Biblical Study by Dr. Jack CottrellLATM's Spanish Project Coordinator Ralph Shead writes: Is there disagreement among Bible students over baptism because the Bible says so little about it, or because it isn’t clear in what it does say? Dr. Jack Cottrell suggests that the confusion goes away

when the Bible students receive the words in the same way the original readers did. The simple and clear ideas enter into murky waters when the student has a prior commitment to a theological system before doing the study. Maybe you know someone who is confused about baptism because of reading the theologians before reading the Bible. If you have a Spanish speaking friends in this situation, buy them this book! Dr. Cottrell teaches 13 lessons on 12 key scriptures. It includes study questions and is good for individual or group study.

The Faith Once for All (reprint) by Dr. Jack CottrellThe first printing of this book is already depleted. Thanks to the diligent efforts of missionary Bill Crandall (Ecuador) and his class of theology students in painstakingly proofreading the entire text, the reprint edition of this book has significantly fewer errors than the first. This will also be the edition that will be available in digital format soon through Salem Software (salemsoftware.org).

What the Bible Says about Covenant (reprint) by Mont SmithA reprint of this valuable resource was done in April.

The New Testament Church (reprint) by Robert ShannonThis was one of the first books published by LATM, back in the early 90s. Now it's time for a reprint, with a new cover.

THAIThirteen Lessons in Christian Doctrine by Denver SizemoreMissionary (and translator of this book into Thai) Mike Flinchum saw the need for this book many years ago, and with much perseverance has finally finished the translation, proofreading, editing, formatting and printing of this book in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Mike writes: This book will be used as a . . .(1) textbook at Lanna Theological Center.(2) teaching and evangelism tool with new Christians, non-believers, and church leaders. (3) basic teaching tool in churches in Sunday school and training settings.

International Christian College of Manila faculty, sta and students

Workers among various people groups in China and Southeast Asia had great inuence in forming LATM. ey pleaded for books in Lisu, Hindi, Tamil, Burmese, Chinese and other languages. Books that would help them announce the Good News to millions who had never heard the name of Jesus. Books that would multiply their eorts, speeding outreach into new cultures, and helping new believers establish vibrant churches in their communities.

Book requests were coming in before there was a way to meet the need. Don DeWelt heard the clamor of Christian workers who were translating and making handwritten and mimeographed copies of whole books for their outreach and training ministries. Don’s son Chris recruited Phil Casey to begin LATM in 1992 in direct response to the pleas for Christ-centered, biblical books in heart languages.

Since then, LATM has helped with 177 projects, totaling 532,975 books in 23 languages in China and Southeast Asia. Our coworkers have current requests for 53 projects that are in diering stages of completion.

We collaborate with 21 eld partners in China and Southeast Asia. We asked a few of them to tell us about what books do in their elds. (Names are withheld for discretion in some areas of labor.)

World News: Who are the people you reach?

ST (Myanmar): Buddhists and animists. We follow Jesus’ example and give training to disciples coming from refugee camps along India, Bangladesh, and ailand borders. We have equipped many with information, and empowered these disciples to continue to serve our King on the front lines.

KR (Laos): From the Lao farmer to Lao business and government leaders.

WW (China): Chinese, primarily in mainland China.

WN: What is the nature of your ministry?

ST: Preaching... teaching... church planting, discipleship and developing the new church. at is done through personal evangelism, house to house, farm to farm evangelism, children’s education, medical care.

KR: My ministry is a Business as Mission work that is connected with a Church Planting Movement. We are opening domestic markets to increase the wealth of the poorest of the poor: the Lao farmer.

ST: We have printed 13,000 Burmese Hymnbooks by the help of LATM. Many animists who worship evil spirits changed their lives after learning and singing hymns. ey clearly see that the evil

spirit ees when they sing hymns.

KR: Sisawang Church is implementing a church planting movement with a three prong approach: Leadership Development, community development and economic development. Darrow Miller’s book Discipling the Nations[on LATM’s 2014 Publishing Plan] addresses how to do all of this in a Godly context.

Ross Wissman (Philippines): International Christian College of Manila uses books constantly. Most families do not possess any books in their homes except perhaps a Bible. So, students are required to spend at least 10 hours in the library each week. More Precious than Pearls is used as a textbook, as a result, many freshmen are baptized into Christ. It is used in high schools as part of their Values Formation classes. is includes not just Restoration Movement schools but also recently a large Catholic (majority religion) high school in Quezon City.

WW: Members of One+One, our outreach program, have been using Live Forever! and God’s Good News for You (Living Water) to share Jesus and His salvation in Guangdong, Jiangxi,

Sichuan, Guizhou, and Inner Mongolia in China. ey keep a few of the booklets in their pockets and purses and pass on the good news when the opportunity comes up. Seventy people were baptized into Christ last year as a result.

WN: How has your use of books aected you and your ministry?

KR: I saw others use Miller’s principles in Bokeo. It is the basis of the work that I am doing now with XP Trading Co. It colors my thoughts.

WN: Do you have plans for future book projects?

WW: We are revising the Chinese translation of Revelation’s Rhapsodyand add a study guide to conduct Bible studies in churches. We are in the process of translating Jesus 3D. It will be used for our Bible college classes.

Ross: I am writing a book with reference to the Filipino situation. It can be used as a textbook for ministry classes. It is meant to be a practical reference for the minister in the eld who has few/no resources and needs on-the-spot advice on what to do in any particular circumstance.

WN: Will new technology aect your use of books?

ST: Printing books is most eective, as there is not good internet in Myanmar.

WW: eBooks will be very eective. We have started using new technology to broadcast Gospel and Worship programs into China this year.

Ross: At this stage, eBooks, Kindles, and the like have not been a feature for most Filipinos. Most families do not have internet access in their homes yet, but many of the students go to internet cafes to do Facebook and emails. As the texting capital of the world (everyone has a cellphone with camera abilities), I am sure that this technology will soon be used.

The situation . . .

Missionaries and national workers in dozens of countries need thousands of books for people who want to FIND Christ, for Christians who want to FOLLOW him, and for leaders who want to SERVE him. But the books are not available!

A dierent book every month . . .

Literature And Teaching Ministries has a solution: A new kind of Book Club where you join with others to provide a specic book each month. Instead of receiving the selection of the month, you send $20 to help give books to those who need them. Your contribution, along with others, will help fund the cost of publishing these books.

How the Book Club works . . .

LATM constantly receives requests for help to publish books in heart languages of people everywhere. A dierent book is selected every month. Maybe a book that gives Russian-speakers evidence for Christian faith, or Spanish-speakers a clear study of the Bible, or Arabic-speakers a college-level commentary.

YES! I want to help provide books in other languages. Sign me up as a member of Literature And Teaching Ministries' Book Club. I will contribute $20 towards the selected book project each month.

$20 x 300 = $6,000

With their small gifts, Book Club members have contributed over $750,000! The LATM Book Club is an excellent way to use many small gifts to make a large impact.
