Patented Honeycomb drumThe hexagonal pattern in the drum on thetumble dryers is convex, creating airpockets to gently catch and cushion thelaundry as it tumbles to the bottom of thedrum. This allows warm air to surround thelaundry enabling more efficient drying.And with less friction between fabric andthe drum, laundry comes out smoother andless creased, so finishing is easier too.

Large area fluff filterThe large surface area of fluff filter on thevented dryer is capable of collecting thefluff from up to 16 drying cycles (depend-ing on the type of fabric being dried).

Vented or Condenser?Miele's Little Giant tumble dryers areavailable in both vented and condenserversions. The condenser tumble dryers alsohave a pump-away facility to drain thecondensate through a waste pipe at therear which can be connected to a sink,drain outlet, etc. So whatever the siteconditions there's a dryer to suit!

Technology

Miele’s patented stainless steel Honey-comb Drum guarantees optimum care for all fabrics. The laundry floats on aprotective film of water, making it almostimpossible for fibres to be drawn throughthe perforations. The specially designeddrum ribs allow the water to saturate thelaundry very quickly, reducing washingtimes.

The high spin speeds with a G-factor of upto 500 make for optimum water extractionand the innovative shape of the drum makesunloading very easy.

The large, hydraulic controlled drain valveguarantees fast drainage, while safetychecks ensure a high level of reliability.The large drain valve diameter prevents itfrom becoming blocked by foreign objects,and because it is connected directly to thesuds container, no water or detergent arelost.

Electrical installation is simple via the inte-grated connection box at the rear of themachine, with no need to remove the lid ofthe appliance. There are also connectionsfor detergent dispensers at the rear of themachine (10 for liquid agents and 2 for vis-cous agents).

The patented Miele Honeycomb Drum isalso used for the tumble dryers where itguarantees a high level of drum stabilityand optimum fabric care. The laundryfloats on a gentle cushion of air as it dries,resulting in less creasing which is a distinctadvantage when it comes to ironing.

Drying is particularly fast and gentlethanks to the axial air current and therecirculating vent baffle system. Once the hot air has become saturated, a bafflecan be switched from the energy savingAir Recycling system to venting alone.

Miele technology guarantees economy as well as quality as the machines aredesigned for over 30,000 programmecycles.

Intelligence

The freely programmable Profitronic Mcontrols offer 16 standard programmes foroptimum efficiency, including the new“Handwashable Woollens” programme.183 programme slots are available eitherfor individual programming or for theMiele programme packages. The graphicdisplay combines symbols and clear textfor easy programming and programmesare selected via a rotary dial. The machinescan also be operated via chip card.

Temperatures, temperature holding times,wash times, drum rhythms and spin speedsare all programmable to suit your needs.The laundry to suds ratio is freely program-mable, and the load recognition systemautomatically controls the water intake tosuit the size of each individual wash load.

An automatic weighing system and dis-penser pumps are available as optionalextras to ensure optimum dosing of deter-gent and no overloading. The amount ofdetergent to be used can be entered in ml,ml/l and ml/kg.

Profitronic M controls also feature onMiele tumble dryers for the first time,making them freely programmable, so thedrying process can be ideally adapted to all manner of different fabrics. The preciseresidual moisture monitor ensures thatlaundry is never overdried.

Design

The 65 mm thick Miele shield styled fronton the washer-extractors offers far morethan protection and stability. The chromenickel steel used is resistant to chemicals.The front of the tumble dryers also havethe sophisticated shield design to matchthe washer-extractors. The powder coatedhousing is highly scratch resistant. A stainless steel front option is available for tumble dryers.

The large door openings (washer-extractors370 mm*, tumble dryers 520 mm) with agenerous 180 degree opening angle andelevated position are ergonomically idealfor easy loading and unloading.

Technology

Miele offer rotary ironers with roller dia-meters ranging from 210 to 500 mm.

Aluminium heater plates instead of steel,guarantee an excellent distribution of heatand considerably reduced heating uptimes. The foot control ensures that the roller can be easily stopped, eg. forsteaming.

A pneumatic lifting device (on MM 50-175/205) creates a high pressure ironing actionfor an excellent finish.

The smaller ironers (pages 16/17) can beoperated by one person and can be sitedagainst a wall. An optional return-feedmechanism on the larger models enablesthem to also be operated by a single personfor smaller items of laundry.

The high throughput of a Miele rotary ironerdoes not necessarily mean high energyconsumption. The ironer only producesheat when it needs it. For example, on the MM 50 models a 4-stage temperaturecontrol ensures a precise distribution ofheat within the roller to the exact spotwhere it is needed.

On the large models with roller diametersof up to 300 mm, a durable roller coverwith leaf-type padding and ARAMIDMolton cloth is particularly economical.This can be chosen as an option instead of a cover made of elastic steel wool andARAMID needle felt.

Output figures according to DIN 11 902The output levels achieved in practice are on average20-40% lower than the maximum output level. Theactual output depends on the skill and experience ofthe operator, the type of laundry being handled, howit is pre-sorted, the condition of the rotary ironer andthe standard of finish required.

23Miele’s smallest professional laundrymachines start with a load capacity of 5.5 kg,and include a washer-extractor, a tumbledryer and a rotary ironer, offering thecomplete laundry service for all your laundry.The high-performance Miele Little Giantscan be fitted with a C 4060 coin box, makingthem perfect for installation in student hallsof residence as well as in internet cafes andbistros. They are also ideal in establish-ments where a wide assortment of laundryis processed in succession, and wherepersonal items are washed as well ascommercial table linen, bedding, bathroomand kitchen items – the optimum systemfor small hotels, guest houses, restaurantsand holiday establishments.

Output exampleA 10-bed guesthouse where the linen ischanged three times a week generatesapprox. 100 kg of laundry per week. Thisrepresents 18 wash cycles of 5.5 kg perweek (or 3 cycles a day). Miele’s entry-levelPW 6055 PLUS with a load capacity of 5.5 kg, or PW 6065 PLUS with a load capacityof 6.5 kg, together with a PT 7136 PLUSdryer, are the ideal solution for this quantityof laundry.

The amount of laundry that would needironing in this example (about 60%) wouldcome to approx. 60 kg per week – a loadthat the Miele HM 21-100 rotary ironer canprocess in less than 41/2 hours at a rate of 14 kg per hour.

The amount of laundry to be ironed will be approximately 330 kg per week. TheHM 38-205 rotary ironer can process thisamount in just 10 hours*. Larger amountsof ironing can be handled by one of thelarger models such as the MM 50-205,which will reduce the throughput timeconsiderably. For example, this modelrequires no pre-drying as the heat output is suitable for residual moisture levels ofaround 50%. Places such as hospitals require a particu-larly high standard of room hygiene. Aswith everywhere in the health service, great demands are placed on both staff andequipment. This requires highly developedmachine technology for the washing anddisinfecting of cleaning materials, as wellas intelligent systems for optimisingworking procedures.

The Miele system offers safe, economicaland flexible solutions for washing anddisinfecting cleaning materials. Mops, forexample, can be thermally or chemicallydisinfected during the programme, andthen dried and put away until neededagain, or treated with a cleaning solutionor disinfectant for immediate re-use.

To be able to redeploy micro-fibre clothsimmediately after washing and disinfect-ing, Miele has developed and patented acomplete system for processing these bymachine.

Compared to the traditional methods ofwashing, adding disinfectant, soaking andwringing out the cloths, and finally discard-ing the solution, the new process makesconsiderable savings on time, water andchemicals. Cloths are washed, disinfectedand then finished in one process, and canbe re-used the minute they are taken out of the machine without further treatment. A special folding technique, recommendedby Vileda, maximises the performance ofthe cloth, and prevents the spread ofgerms. As soon as one room has beencleaned, the cloth can be sent back to thelaundry for reprocessing. Even highfoaming, aldehyde-free disinfectants canbe used with this modern and efficientmethod of processing cloths in the Mielewasher-extractor.

35Miele Profitronic machines offer aneffective, inexpensive, technicallyadvanced and easy-to-install solution forprocessing protective clothing on-site.They are easy and safe to use, with pro-grammes designed to suit all types of fabric.Even the cleaning agents are dispensedautomatically. Protective clothing is readyto use again in approx. 21/2 hours, havingbeen washed, re-proofed and dried. Thethorough, gentle programmes in conjunc-tion with the patented Miele HoneycombDrum ensure that these expensive uniformsare treated particularly gently to preservetheir quality. Breathing masks can also beprocessed in Miele machines. In conjunc-tion with mask and detergent manufacturers,Miele has developed special washing anddisinfection processes. An obvious advan-tage of this is that masks do not have to bedismantled for cleaning. They are simplyput inside a special wash bag to protect thevisor, and then placed in a holder to securethem during the gentle drying process. And as an example of just how versatile theMiele system is, ordinary textiles, blankets,sportswear etc. can also be processed inthese machines.

The installation in our example of a MielePW 6131 washer-extractor and a PT 7331dryer is the ideal basic combination forprocessing protective clothing, breathingmasks and chemical suits. Approx. twoprotective suits or 12 breathing masks canbe washed, re-proofed, disinfected anddried in each load. The low consumptionrates, together with perfect cleaningresults, combine to create a system whichis incredibly economical. For example, thedrum speed on the dryer for the Breathingmask programme is only 20 rpm, ensuringthe gentlest possible treatment for theseexpensive items. The masks only takeapprox. 40 minutes to dry, which is anenormous improvement on the 3–6 hoursrequired to dry masks in an airing cupboard.

Fast, simple, hygienically clean

Protective clothing used by the Emergencyservices has high demands placed on it,and requires special treatment in the laun-dry. Most of the thermal, multi-layeredfabrics used in these garments have awaterproof layer of Gore-tex®, Sympatex®

or other similar material. In addition,reflective stripes are often attached to theoutside of the garments to maximisevisibility. Uniforms usually emerge from anincident heavily soiled, and require thorough,careful cleaning and immediate reproofing,depending on the fabric, to retain theirsafety and protective qualities. Simplydrying protective clothing and occasionallywashing it in a domestic washing machineis not adequate from either a hygienic or an economical point of view. Using aprofessional laundry is also uneconomical,as long distances and turnaround timeswould make it necessary to double up onthe uniforms.

37Miele offers washer-extractors with capaci-ties of 7.5 to 32 kg with special wash pro-grammes for horse blankets and acces-sories which are the perfect solution forequestrian establishments. The equestrianprogrammes include four special pro-grammes for washing and proofing horseblankets: a 30°C and a 60°C programme,a delicates programme and a programmewith a proofing phase included for opti-mum waterproofing. The machines canalso handle halters, girths, bandages,saddlecloths and similar textile itemswhich are not always accepted by commer-cial laundries. Loading and operating themachines is simplicity itself. Just load theitems via the generous door opening,select a programme and start the machine.If items are to be washed which give off avery large amount of fluff and hair, it isadvisable to order a machine which has aspecial drum, and which is designed toallow the suds to move freely around theheating element to prevent horse hairs anddirt from becoming trapped in the machine. An additional fluff filter system betweenthe machine and the drainage connectionprotects the domestic water supply againstblockages.

Laundy can be clean and ready for useagain in less than an hour. With high spinspeeds and correspondingly low residualmoisture levels, subsequent drying timesare much reduced. Twelve drying pro-grammes are available to dry the equip-ment gently and thanks to the new air andtemperature controls with integrated airrecycling system, drying is simple,economical and fast, not to mentionenvironmentally friendly.

An entry level solution for equestriancentres would be the PW 6101 washer-extractor and PT 7251 tumble dryer whichcan process 1 winter blanket or 2 summerblankets or 7 saddle cloths per load. A rangeof practical accessories is also available,such as dispenser pumps, plinths andprotective sleeves to cover buckles, as wellas coin boxes for self service operation,making this a particularly economicaloption for stables.

The Miele ranges of professional washer-extractors and dryers with a maximum loadcapacity of 5.5 – 32 kg of dry laundryenables clubs to select the solution thatbest meets their needs.

The entry and compact ranges of machinesoffer maximum capacities of 5.5 to 7.5 kg,making them ideal for small clubs wherethe team’s kit has to be clean in time for thenext match. The new washer-extractorsand dryers in the Innovation M range witha maximum load of between 10 and 20 kgare the ideal machines for larger organisa-tions. Thenew Profitronic M controls with memoryfunction are freely programmable and canbe updated at any time. The user is guided by clear text and graphicsymbols. Programmes are selected via arotary dial. The machines can also beoperated by chip card if preferred. An opticalinterface is available for programming via a PC. Various parameters can bepreselected: start time, programme endtime, temperature, spin speed andlanguage (with a choice of eleven differentlanguages). Highly developed sensortechnology ensures optimum reliability.The load recognition system optimises the use of energy, water, cleaning agentsand time. A temperature sensor ensuresprecise control of the washing and dryingtemperatures and a load imbalance sensorautomatically adjusts the spin speed ifnecessary.
