LAUREL GLEN COUNTERPOINT CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2014 SONOMA MOUNTAIN, CA WWW.LAURELGLEN.COM OUR MOST APPROACHABLE SONOMA MOUNTAIN CABERNET: Stylish and Harmonious VINEYARD NOTES Beginning in 2011, we introduced organic farming practices at Laurel Glen Vineyard and upgraded pruning and trellising methods in order to improve concentration and consistency. As the changes we’ve made in the vineyard take effect, the quality of the fruit we harvest has increased. But the quantity of the fruit we harvest has decreased. In order to consistently produce 2,000-3,000 cases of Laurel Glen Counterpoint Cabernet Sauvignon, we have developed relationships with quality oriented neighbors on Sonoma Mountain. In addition to fruit from our estate vineyard, the 2014 vintage of Counterpoint benefits from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from the venerable Pickberry Vineyard, now farmed by Ned Hill, and from Cabernet Sauvignon from the Murray Vineyard, farmed organically by Joe Votek. VINTAGE NOTES The 2014 growing season began early, the result of a warm and dry spring. Mother Nature blessed us with beautiful mild weather for the 3rd year in a row, leading to excellent quality grapes that were all safely in the winery before the end of September. 2014 was an unusually large harvest, a welcome change from the extremely small yield of 2013. The abundance of 2014 grapes gave us the opportunity to bottle almost double the amount of Counterpoint as the year before. This will allow us to change the release date of Counterpoint so that future vintages spend an additional 6-8 months in the bottle, ensuring that flavors are fully integrated and the wine is at peak drinkability when released. WINE NOTES "This unique cab’s savory flavors, coupled with bright acid, makes it a tasty food-friendly wine. It has raspberry fruit, coupled with notes of cassis, anise, a hint of mushroom and cracked black pepper. This budget-savvy Counterpoint is a steal for the quality." - Peg Melnick, The Press Democrat APPELLATION: Sonoma Mountain VARIETAL COMPOSITION: 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot CASE PRODUCTION: 3,800 Cases ALCOHOL: 14.4% % NEW OAK: 30% New Tonnellerie Taransaud, 10% New Canton Cooperage TIME IN OAK: 16 months RECENT PRAISE Top 5 Wine Picks of 2016 - The Press Democrat - "a steal for the quality" 93 Points - Wine Enthusiast Magazine - "it delights in luxuriously bright acidity"
