Head Teachers Comments.
A very warm welcome to you all. I hope that you and your
family had a great summer break and are looking forward to
the new school year.
This is my first newsletter as Acting Headteacher. I am
thrilled to be leading such a wonderful school team. I will be
in the school playground most mornings, when I can, to
greet you and welcome the children to school. Do stop and say hello.
I like to have an open door policy and so please make an appointment if
you would like to discuss anything with me or call at a convenient time. I
will always come back to you as soon as I can.
New children
A special welcome to our new Reception children and their families. They
have settled so well and we hope they will be very happy here at the
Laurels.
The Start of the School Term
One of the areas which Headteachers are required to oversee is school
attendance and this includes children arriving at school on time. Please ensure
that the children arrive at school on time and that they have everything that
they need i.e. P.E kit. Punctuality really enables children to settle more
quickly and to get into good habits and routines.
I have been very happy to see that the children have returned to school look-
ing very smart. Just as a reminder, please ensure that children have sensible,
suitable school shoes and do not wear trainers as part of their uniform.

WILL YOU QUALIFY FOR 30 HOURS FREE CHILDCARE?
Parents with 3 or 4 year old children will need to meet the following criteria in order
to be eligible for 30 hours free childcare:
You earn or expect to earn the equivalent to 16 hours at National Minimum or
Living Wage over the coming three months.
This equates to 120 a week (or c.6,000 a year) for each parent over 25 years
old or 112.80 a week (or c.5,800 a year) for each parent between 21 and 24
years old.
This applies whether you are in paid employment, self-employed or on zero
hours contract.
The parent (and their partner where applicable) should be seeking the free
childcare to enable them to work.
Where one or both parents are on maternity, paternity, shared parental or
adoption leave, or if they are on statutory sick leave.
Where one parent meets the income criteria and the other is unable to work
because they are disabled, have caring responsibilities or have been assessed
as having limited capability to work.
Where a parent is in a start-up period (i.e. they are newly self-employed) they
do not need to demonstrate that they meet the income criteria for 12 months.
If a non-EEA national, the parent must have recourse to public funds.
Who will not qualify? A parent will not meet the criteria when:
Either parent has an income of more than 100,000
Either parent is a non-EEA national and subject to immigration control (and has
no recourse to public funds)
What happens if a parent loses eligibility? They will receive a grace period this means they will be able to keep their
childcare for a short period.
Once the grace period has lapsed, the parent may be entitled to the
universal 15 hour entitlement.
Harvest Assembly
Harvest Assembly is on Tuesday 17th October.
Please come along and watch your children
perform a Harvest song or poem.

Messages from the Premises Officer
Please remind your children not to touch or eat any of the mush-
rooms growing at the front of the school. We are removing them
as fast as we can but they continue to pop up!
Please remember to place all litter in the appropriate bins. Used
nappies have been found on the school premises which makes a very unpleasant job for
our school caretaker.
Chartwells will be holding a special Italian themed menu
day on Thursday 5th October. We would request that
your child has a hot meal on this day as the number of
children eating a school dinner on 5th October impacts on
our school funding.
A separate Parent Mail will be coming home reminding you.
Thank You!
Messages from the Office
Data collection sheet Being sent home Monday 2nd October.
This needs to be completed by all parents informing us of any changes to
address/telephone numbers/email addresses and any other information we
may need about your child.
ALSO
If there is a last minute change of who is picking up a child, please can the
office receive a call before 2.30pm to enable the message to get to the
classroom in time for end of day.
