About LAWASIALAWASIA, the Law Association for Asia and the Pacific, is an international organisation of legal associations, individual lawyers, judges, legal academics and others, which focuses on the interests and concerns of the legal profession in the Asia Pacific region.

Established in 1966, LAWASIA comprises over forty member organisations and has individual members from more than fif ty countries world-wide.

Its mission is to promote universally high standards of legal practice and continuing legal education, to be a voice of the legal community of the region, to uphold the rule of law and to protect human rights across the diverse range of political, cultural, social and economic contexts of the Asia Pacific region.

About the conferenceThe LAWASIA Risk Management & PII Conference is designed to equip delegates with insight and knowledge into complex and multi-dimensional issues arising from risk management for legal professionals.

It will examine current aspects of the inter-relationships between risk management and the professional indemnity insurance schemes that are in place to protect lawyers and their law firms.

The program will of fer examinations of the relationship between professional regulation and insurance, best practice, cross border operating risks, the impact of global economic ef fects and of changes wrought by a growing internationalisation of legal practice, among other areas.

This internationally-focused conference, now in its fourth biennial reprise, provides a unique opportunity to consider the evolving frontiers of risk management and PII. Michael Young is the CEO of Lexon Insurance, the professional indemnity insurer for Queensland solicitors, which he joined in 2007. As CEO, he has been responsible for implementing innovations in risk and claims management to ensure that Lexon continues to provide first class service to Queensland’s legal practitioners.

Prior to joining Lexon, Michael was a partner of Ashurst (then Blake Dawson), one of Australia’s leading law firms. His principal areas of practice were insurance and commercial litigation, with a particular emphasis on professional indemnity work.

In addition, Michael held several leadership roles within Blake Dawson, including membership of Blake Dawson’s Litigation Executive Group, which was responsible for the overall strategic direction of a $70 million AUD national litigation practice. At the time of his departure, he was also the senior litigation partner in the firm’s Perth office.

Michael moved to Queensland in 2004 and undertook MBA studies at the University of Queensland, graduating in 2005.

He obtained accreditation as a mediator with LEADR (Lawyers Engaged in Alternative Dispute Resolution) in 1998 and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management. Other memberships include the Law Council of Australia’s Professional Indemnity Insurance Joint Working Group, the CEO Institute, the Australian Institute of Company Directors, LAWASIA and the Queensland Law Society.
