What is the law

• Graffiti is a from of criminal damage and the law states that if you are caught doing graffiti you will be fined up to ₤5,000 but if the damage costs more than ₤5,000 the crown court will decide the sentence (most likely to pay the fine and community service).

Types of illegal graffiti• Tagging – tag is the artists name in graffiti, its like a signature

but for graffiti. Artist normally write it next to there art piece. Its illegal because its criminal damage.

• Throw-up is a bigger version of tagging but its normally in bubble writing and with more that one colour. This is illegal because it has not been given permission to do so (criminal damage)

• Stencil – is a art where you cut out stencils from paper, cardboard etc. to make a image so you can spray paint over it. This a more neater way to do graffiti because its not freehand. Its illegal because it ruins the property (building, wall).
