DJ BANOVITZ
VIDEO SHOOTDateline: Denver, ColoradoMarch, 2011
Iʼ m on my way to Denver this evening to shoot video witha really smart personal injury attorney named D.J.Banovitz. This is my second attempt to get out toColorado to shoot video with D.J.The rst attempt was one montha g o w h e r e U n i t e d a i r l i n e scancelled my ight because ofmechanical issues. That was niceof them. The were kind enough to
reimburse me for my airfare but nomore. They would not compensateme for my taxi to and from theairport or the lost income from mycancelled ight.
Ironically, my production assistanthad taken an earlier ight toDenver that day and he made itthere without any problem. Thatpresented a challenge. How toshoot video without me being there, even though my production assistant was there. The
answer was simple.
My assistant, Jeff, set up all the equipment the nextmorning and went through a few dry runs with D.J. Theycalled it a day after that and I rescheduled our videoshoot. I ʼ m really looking forward to going to Denver asIʼ ve never been there before.
I keep telling my wife I want to take our family toColorado or Utah for a ski vacation. The only problem isthat my wife doesn ʼ t ski. I have to convince her thatthere ʼ s so much more to do besides ski. (If you havesome great ideas, let me know!)
I know that DJ has been fully prepped and is raring togo. I ʼ ll nish this post up on the way back to NY onthe red-eye.
Post-Video shoot
I arrived at DJ ʼ s ofce at 8:15 a.m. and quicklylearned that the equipment was not at his ofce.Turns out he had it at home and was bringing it to the
ofce with him. Setting up was a breeze. Light stands, check. Softbox lights, check. Light bulbs, check.Extension cord, check. Video camera and memory cards,
check. Tripod, check. Then I staged his ofce.Staging is a term used to set the stage where you ʼ reshooting. Arrange the furniture, adjust any plants andbackground items. Check lighting, background andaudio. Done.
As with every attorneywho shoots video withme, they are oftennervous even af terh a v i n g p r a c t i c e dextensively. Think back
to your rst jury trial ororal argument in front ofa judge, or the rst timeyou went skiing or anyactivity that you did forthe rst time. Nobody isborn knowing how toshoot video. You mustpractice.
A s w e p r o g r e s s e dthroughout the morning I saw a transformation that DJdidn ʼ t yet recognize. It was the ability to conveyinformation in a comfortable, easy manner using video.Sure there were stumbles and misres. Everyone hasthem, even me. Especially me. You just don ʼ t see all thebloopers and outtakes, and that ʼ s ok. Being a littleunpolished creates that ʻ real feel ʼ that often comes offbetter than someone who ʼ s totally slick.
Lunchtime arrived and after a nice lunch across thestreet, we went back to work in his conference room. It ʼ samazing how many different shooting angles you canachieve in one room. Simply by changing the lighting, moving the furniture and using a different camera angleallows you the ability to create an entirely new stagingarea. Your viewer has no idea it ʼ s the same room or that
the video is shot on thesame day.
DJ had a great video shootand I ʼ m really glad I had achance to get to know himand shoot video in the MileH i g h C i t y k n o w n a sDenver, Colorado.

L e g a l M a r k e t i n gExpert SpotlightDave Lorenzo
Dave is located inFlorida and helpslawyers market their law firms. He created aunique program calledt h e L a w F i r mMarketing System thatDe l ive r s Succes s ,H a p p i n e s s a n dFinancial Freedom. I ampleased to say that I have read Dave’s program cover tocover three times already. It is one of the best legal
marketing programs I’ve seen yet. Lawyers who followhis 30 day fast start marketing program will onlyimprove their level of marketing and leave their competitors far behind.
When I started learning how to market my solo practice,I was skeptical of marketing people who could promiselots of things. Being a practice for 22 years, and being onmy own for the last nine years as well as being amarketing student, I can honestly say that this program isamazing. Dave is not paying me to say this nor does heeven know that I have reviewed his materials.
There are very few legal marketers in the country that Iregularly follow, and Dave is one of those few. His blogposts and video topics are right on point and you woulddo well to start following what he talks about. If youhave an opportunity to get his program, I stronglyrecommend it. To contact Dave for more informationabout his legal marketing program, you can reach him at8 8 8 - 6 9 2 - 5 5 3 1 a n d o n t h e w e b a twww.rainmakerlawyer.com .
If you do call him, tell him I said “Hi!”
Where in the world is Gerrythis month?
March has been very busy for me, and I’m really excited about that.
(1) The month started in Clevelan d Ohio where I participated in a
great three-day seminar given by marketing guru Dan Kennedy. Want to
talk about taking immediate action? At the end of each day I returned back
to my hotel room and immediately shot 10 new videos addressing theexact things that I learned that day.
(2) Two weeks later I lectured to really smart attorneys in Naples,
Florida at Chris Munley’s legal marketing seminar called ATLAS Law
Group. What was the topic? “How your law rm will become obsolete if
you do not use video
t o m a r k e t y o u r
practice.” We also did
s o m e t h i n g
r evo lu t i ona ry and
brand-new at this
seminar. Want to learn
what it was? Make
sure you follow me on
Facebook to learn the
details.
I’ll give you a
hint: I literally rolled
out the red carpet for
attorneys who got to treat themselves to shoot a free video with me at the
seminar.
(3) Next up was a full day video shoot with long-time clients Greg Stokes
and his law partner Neil Kopitsky in Atlanta, Georgia.
(4) After that, we’re heading to Long Beach, California with our newest
member of the Lawyers Video Studio, Laura Claveran. After that,
expect to nd me in court in New York for some pre-trial conferences
on my medical malpractice cases, and then you will nd me in
Huntsville, Alabama with our Platinum member Charles Pitman.
(5) After shooting video with my good friends Greg and Neil, my
team and I headed to downtown Atlanta for Ken Hardison ʼ s
legal marketing seminar. It was two days lled with tons of
useful content and information that made going an educational
blast. For the second time ever, we again rolled out the red
carpet and encouraged lawyers to not only see what we do but
also to experience it rsthand and to try out video for
themselves. Many of the attorneys tried it and loved it. You can
see some of their photos in this newsletter.
(6) Next week you can nd me in Virginia at Ben Glass ʼ Great Legal
Marketing superconference where Dan Kennedy will be
headlining the event.
If you want to learn how you can join these really smart lawyersand create an entire video library for you and you think you ʼ re agood t for us, I encourage you to contact my production managerto set up your free phone consultation. Email:[email protected] or by phone, 1800-320-4314. Ilook forward to your call.

BANOVITZ VIDEO SHOOT“WE HAVE A
WINNER!”
Dr. Ted Greve, a personalinjury t r ia l lawyer whopractices in both NorthCarolina and South Carolinahas won the grand prize inthe Lawyers Video Studiogive-away at the ATLAS legalmarketing seminar in Naples,Florida. “Dr. Ted” is a formerchiropractor who handles alltypes of negligence cases. Ilearned that he has a uniqueviewpoint; he ʼ s treated manypatients with neck and backinjuries from accidents. I don ʼ tknow of any other lawyerswho can make the sameclaim.
Why does that uniquelyqualify him to handle cara c c i d e n t c a s e s ? H eunderstands very clearly hisc l i e n t s ʼ ba ck an d ne ckinjuries. Having a backgroundin Chiropractic allows him tounderstand clients ʼ injuriesand disabilities, not just froma lawyer ʼ s standpoint, butalso from someone who usedto treat those injuries as well.
“Dr. Ted,” as he is known inhis community, was the grandwinner of a mini-video shootin the Lawyers Video Studio. At the time he won, he waswearing a burgundy t-shirta n d b l u e j e a n s a n d Isuggested he change in orderto shoot some video. Hereadily agreed.
As you know, the mostimportant part of my videoprogram is my mastermindcall. During that call, I takeyou through all the contentthat you need to create inorder to craft 50 topics to talkabout.
Our lunch break was theperfect time for our mini-
mastermind discussion, sincethe exhibit hall emptied outand was nice and quiet. Tedwas to create ve videos thatwould be edited, approvedand uploaded to the majorv ideo shar ing s i t es . Inaddition, he also won acustom video channel wherehis ve new Lawyers Video
Studio videos will reside.
BEHIND THE CAMERA
On the camera today was myproduction partner, HarryBrockman, a very capableand experienced broadcastexpert. Behind the sceneswas our secret weapon; ScottPruitt, a powerful producerwi th a long h i s to ry oproducing some well-known
infomercials, TV spots andvideo. Today ʼ s video producewas none other than myself. Our video shooting time wasestimated to be about 30minutes.
If you were following ouprogress on Facebook, youhave noticed our brand newc u s t o m e m b r o i d e r e d ,producer ʼ s chair. It lookreally cool. It ʼ s a naturanished wood chair with royalblue canvas seating andyellow lettering on the seat-back. You ʼ d also have seenour newly designed logo andthe largest picture of me on abanner I ʼ ve ever seen. (Harrysaid he ʼ s also going to makea 10 ʼ gigantic life-size cutouof me, but I couldn ʼ t tell if was kidding. Scott suggestedwe make a 35 ʼ banner thawe could drape from the topof the hotel and let it hangdown to the ground. Thatdownright freaky.)
After our mini-mastermindsession I began to explain toDr. Ted my philosophy ofcreating video. At rst, he washesitant to try it since he wasused to shooting TV ads that

DR. TED GREVE
WINNER!
PILMMA-Legal MarketingSeminarDateline: Atlanta, GeorgiaApril 1-2, 2011
There are lawyers everywhere. Over ahundred of them. In one place. They ʼ repersonal injury lawyers looking to stayon the cutting edge of technology thatwill keep them relevant and ahead ofthe curve.
I have to congratulate fellow PersonalInjury trial lawyer Ken Hardison forputting together a great group ofspeakers this year. From social mediawhiz Cindy Speaker to the Celebritybranding expert Nick Nanton to KenHardison himself, to trial lawyer HowardSpiva and Avvo marketing directorConrad Saam, lawyers who descended
upon the Atlanta Sheraton this pastweekend learned a ton of marketingstuff that will keep them occupied forthe next year. Guaranteed.
What the heck was I doing there, youask? You don ʼ t nd many medicalmalpractice lawyers going to a personalinjury marketing seminar. That ʼ sprecisely why I went. I also went foranother reason. I was exhibiting my
mini lawyers video studio at theseminar.
What is the mini lawyers video studio, you ask? I ʼ m glad you asked. I treatedevery lawyer there to a free video tomarket their law rm. Each attorneyreceived a mini coaching session withme to create compelling content thattheir online viewers needs to know. Itwas fascinating working with so manyattorneys from across the country.
This was the second time I had agreedto do this. The last time was in Naples,Florida when I spoke at Chris Munley ʼ sATLAS legal marketing seminar earlierthis month. All the lawyers whoparticipated and treated themselves toa free video were automatically enteredto win a mini video shoot of 5 freevideos and a custom video channel. The winner in Naples was NorthCarolina & South Carolina personalinjury attorney Ted Greve. We had agreat mini mastermind session beforeshooting. It gave Ted an exclusiveinsight into what I do for the lawyerswho join my video success program.
Iʼ m writing this before learning of thewinner of the PILMMA video grandprize.
c ontinued from p.4
were totally different; which is why our video program works.
THE FIRST VIDEOThe rst video was the most difcult one, for two reasons.
First, we were doing this on the y. Ted did not have anytime to prepare and practice. When lawyers join my TotalOnline Video Success program they have two to threeweeks to prepare their content after our mastermind call.During that time they must practice over and over again. Thereason is obvious. The more they have practiced, the morecomfortable and condent they are at the time of their videoshoot. Guaranteed.
The second reason is that getting onto video the rst time isawkward. It ʼ s unnatural to stare into the lens of a videocamera and pretend it ʼ s your prospective client.
Ted ʼ s second video was better. He was learning what I wasteaching him. The third was remarkably better. By the time
Dr. Ted started his fourth video, he was in the groove andhad a lot of momentum. His fth video was perfect and helocked in his content simply and concisely. I saw he wasvisibly relieved when we came to a successful conclusion.Yet I could also see he was hungry for more. He gets it. Heunderstands the power of video and I can ʼ t wait to hear whahe has to say when he sees his new videos.
Dr. Ted is going to get an email from us shortly letting himknow that his ve videos have been edited, approved anduploaded and he ʼ ll be able to nd them on YouTube as wellas his custom video channel.
At the end of our video shoot, Ted pulled me aside andconded in me that before coming to the ATLAS seminar hewas really looking forward to hearing me talk about theimportance of video marketing for lawyers. He said he wasreally energized and excited when he learned he was the bigwinner of our video drawing.
Well Ted, congratulations on winning and welcome to ourfamily in the Lawyers Video Studio!
