History

1920 Foundation of the “Conservierungssalz-Fabrik Gewürzmühle A. & F. Lay”. With only 2 man staff, the young enterprisers August and Friedrich Lay imported seasonings and produced preservatives, nitrite curing salts and

their first mix of seasonings in the so called “Lindesmühle”.

1928 Renaming the enterprise as “Conservierungssalz-Fabrik Gewürzmühle

Gebrüder Lay”. Thanks to the addition of the 2 younger brothers Karl and Herman, the company was strengthened and received a new name, one which remained

synonymous with the best seasonings and spice products from Bad Kissingen

1960 New building. The continuous success and growing need for more production capacity led to an extension of the enterprise and a high tech building.

1965 The next generation A new era began as Heinz and Dr. Bernhard Lay took management of the company. It was their job to expand globalisation and deliver the next

step of success in the history of Lay Gewürze.

2006 Premium-Quality Excellence for Lay is not only a predicate, it´s also proof of the ongoing dedication and progress in all areas of business. Certification is however

not only an appreciation of our work but also a quality seal for our customers. DIN EN ISO 9001,BIO or ROSTEST certificates show that we fulfil

all quality standards.

1996 Innovation of a different kind: Seasoning oils. The introduction of marinol seasoning oils with floating herbs and spices was to mark an innovation milestone in product

development. In the mean time 40 different seasoning and tastes guarantee a perfect culinary result and therewith a directional company

success.

1980 Full steam ahead Still on its way up, the company makes yet another expansion to the building to cope with demands as well as undergoing a structural change in

management.
