Brief Note of National Programme for Control of Blindness Name of the Programme:-National Programme for Control of Blindness –(NPCB) Introduction & Background:- National Programme for Control of Blindness (NPCB) have been launched in the State of Punjab in 1976 with 100% central assistance. The infrastructure have been developed in the State in a phased manner and has been covered under Non-Plan Scheme. Since, 60% of blindness is due to cataract, a major thrust in the year 2014-15 would be to bring down the level of blindness from 1.00% to 0.3% by 2020 by and Performing 95% of Cataract surgeries with IOL implantation. Current Status:- It covers all the districts of Punjab. The services are delivered by Govt. Hospitals, Medical Colleges and Private Practitioners/NGO Hospitals. Status of Infrastructure and Equipment: Emphasis is on Phaco Emulsification so latest eye equipment for Stitch less Cataract Surgery like Phaco Machines have been provided in District Hospitals. Operating Microscopes, A-scan, Keratometer and Auto refractometers are there in District Hospitals and Sub-Divisional Hospitals. Flash Autoclaves have been installed in all District Hospitals for improved and quick sterilisation of instruments. Introduction & Background:- National Programme for Control of Blindness (NPCB) have been launched in the State of Punjab in 1976 with 100% central assistance. The infrastructure have been developed in the State in a phased manner and has been covered under Non-Plan Scheme. Since, 60% of blindness is due to cataract, a major thrust in the year 2014-15 would be to bring down the level of blindness from 1.00% to 0.3% by 2020 by and Performing 95% of Cataract surgeries with IOL implantation.

Current Status:- It covers all the districts of Punjab. The services are delivered by Govt. Hospitals, Medical Colleges and Private Practitioners/NGO Hospitals.

Status of Infrastructure and Equipment: Emphasis is on Phaco Emulsification so latest eye equipment for Stitch less Cataract

Surgery like Phaco Machines have been provided in District Hospitals. Operating

Microscopes, A-scan, Keratometer and Auto refractometers are there in District

Hospitals and Sub-Divisional Hospitals.

Flash Autoclaves have been installed in all District Hospitals for improved and quick

sterilisation of instruments.

All District Hospitals have Yag Laser equipment, for treatment of post-operative

opacification of posterior capsule and to treat Glaucoma.

Ophthalmic refraction units are installed in District Hospitals and Sub-Divisional

Hospitals. Auto refractometers are available in 20 District Hospitals, more are being

procured.

More Auto-refractometers, Hydraulic Operation Theatre-Tables, Retinoscopes,

Ophthalmoscopes, Slit lamps, Phaco machines have been procured in this financial year.

RC for IOLs, Viscoelastics, Microsurgical Instruments/Blades, Sutures etc has been

done.

Recently a New eye wing in Dsitrict Hospital, Ferozepur has been made operational.

Regular IEC activities are being undertaken for awareness about prevention and

treatment of eye diseases. World Glaucoma Week, World Sight day and Eye Donation

fortnight is being celebrated.

For capacity building about 50 Eye surgeons have been trained under NPCB in

SICS/PHACO/Medical Vitreoretina etc.

New Infrastructure:- Recently a New Eye Wing at District Hospital, Ferozepur has been made
