The Newby Management Strawberry Fest was a great success, as always. Lots of ice cream and toppings, too.

Lazy Days Village shufflers of the Wednesday Bayshore League had their last game of the season March 6, 2019, here at home. The other teams in the Bayshore League are Tamiami Village, Cypress Woods, Poinsettia Park, Pioneer Village and Crystal Lakes. CONGRATULATIONS to the Lazy Days Village shufflers for coming in first. Well done.

Summer is here, if not in name, certainly in the temperatures. Those of us who are here year-round, can relate. Just stay cool and don’t try to do too much outdoors. (I should talk; I’m golfing two days a week!)

We will be having our “Summer Potlucks” again this year – Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day. Publix chicken will be provided by ROLDI. Bring a dish or dessert to pass. We usually have at least fifty people, so plan accordingly.

If you have interesting items to share, you can email them to me and I will include them in future issues. It can be funny stories, recipes, places you may have visited that you think we’d like, etc.

Ladies’ Saturday Breakfast on April 6th

PICNIC POTLUCKROLDI will be serving fried Chicken on Memorial Day

at 5:00 p.m. in the North Hall. Sign-up sheets are in both halls. If you are bringing a guest please note the number; the cost is $5 each. Bring your own table service and a generous dish to pass. Desserts should be dropped off by 4:00 p.m. so they can be cut and plated. If you can help with set-up, please be at the North Hall by noon on the 27th. Thanks.

To Mike Fairley and his crew: Herman and Pat Bucking, Joanna and John Burns, Micki and Russ Bortel, Ed Fisher, Rick Johnson, Larry Raber and Dave Renner. They did an outstanding

job of replacing the straps on our pool loungers and chairs. Also, Mike and John went to Naples and picked up an additional fifteen chairs in excellent condition for under $100; saving us at least $2,000. All this was done in jig time and they are to be commended.

LAZY’S LOCALS

As we wind up our “season,” I must tell you about a very special population of our community.

Newfoundland is an island on the East Coast of Canada; the most easterly point of North America.

These particular Lazy’s Locals are the epitome of fun-loving people. While they are a very close-knit group, they invite others with open arms to enjoy their unique culture of food, such as fish-n-brews and Jiggs dinner to name a few; and, of course, their rich culture of music and friends. These friends are as follows: Len & Sue Slaney, Bill Smith & Mary Edwards, Al & Jean Manning, and Lloyd Fry & Debbie Crocker.

You couldn’t possibly focus on one couple without the other. These “Newfies” are a big part of the Park’s activities, including karaoke, Village Singers, the dances, and are always there to lend a helping hand. They range from retired government employees, teachers, nurses and policemen in their careers.

These wonderful neighbors of ours love to help people and are the only people, they say, that are so proud of their heritage that when they get to Heaven, they are the only ones that want to “Come Home.”

Do yourself a favor, and next Fall go out of your way to get to know them. You, like myself, will be forever grateful to have them in your life.
