    Mentor Programmes

Our Mentor Programmes work on the premise

that many young people have the desire to learn

and develop but lack the direction and support that

only a positive mentoring experience can oer. The

    Limerick City Sports Partnership Development

Ofcers will guide these participating young people to

become active sports leaders, in their communities

and support coaches and clubs to build on the skills

that they already possess. The three mentoring

programmes we run are the VIP (Volunteer Inspired

    Participation) Programme, Introduction to Coaching

    and 3rd level mentor programmes.

    Sports Inclusion Programme

Many people with disabilities are precluded rom

participating in sports and Physical Activities. The

Sports Inclusion Disability Ofcer Programme helps

to address the imbalance in opportunities or people

with disabilities to participate in Sport and Physical

Activity, through working in partnership with all

stakeholders. Programmes included in this section

    include Inclusive Badminton, Inclusive Athletics,

Boccia, Powerchair Soccer, Halliwick Swimming and

    Sportability Day.

    Active Retirement

We encourage more older people to be active more

oten. We aim to do this by promoting and supportingthe national Go For Lie programme, which trains

PALs (Physical Activity Leaders) to give them their

ull title, by training PALs and up skilling the existing

ones. PALs can make a real impact on a group and or

some people becoming a PAL can give them a whole

new lease o lie. Dont worry; you dont h ave to be

Mr Motivator or Jane Fonda to become a PAL. A good

PAL is someone who is active in an ol der adults

group and who is prepared to get up in ront o their

group and encourage people to take part in activities.

The two initiatives we run under this section are

the Go or Lie programme and the Mid West Sports

    Festival.

    Our CoreProgrammes

    School Sports Programme

Limerick City Sports Partnership work together with

participating schools, to create links and partnerships

between schools, community groups, sports clubs

and national governing bodies o sport. The aim o

this programme is to enhance the quality o sporting

opportunities oered to our school children, and to

support the pathways rom school sport into clubs

and community groups. It includes programmes

such as Sporthall Athletics, sae cycling, sport taster

sessions, teacher training programme, Fit Kidz

    Community Sports Programme

The Community Sports Programme aims to increase

participation in sport and physical activity, while also

improving the health and well-being o individuals.

Programmes such as this help to build community

cohesion through increased participation o children,

young people and adults in areas o high social need

and groups traditionally marginalised in sport. Our

objective in this programme o activities is to build

community capacity, to get to a point where the

community groups and volunteers eel confdent

to develop, deliver and promote sport and physical

activity programmes. It includes programmes suchas the development o a new table tennis club, tag

rugby events, Junior Gol Project, olympic handball

& streethandball, Mountain Biking, Fishing, dance,

Step into the city aerobics events, boxing academy,

active angels programme, sports camps and holiday

    provision support programmes.

    Mass participation Events and

    National Physical Activity Programmes

We strive to achieve a sport or all approach, that

unites Leisure Sport, Physical Activity and Mass

Participation Events, which all contributes to

quality o lie and a more active Limerick, as it

provides patterns or leisure time which help people

to obtain a greater level o ftness, while creating a

buzz around the city in activities or all age groups

and levels o ability. Events that we run or support

under this area are the Feet on the Street run

series, Get Limerick Walking, Ballyhoura Mountain

Bike Event, Family Day Cycle, Family Sports Day,

Community Events, European Mobility Week, LielongLearning Festival, National Bike Week and National

    Recreation Week.
