Welcome, summer!

We’ve long been waiting for you! In the city, at the office, in the rush of our everyday lives... Together with the arrival of summer, we have all been looking forward to those short getaways (or long holidays) to relax, rejuvenate and re-energize as well. Yes, summer has finally arrived. And at LC Waikiki, the joy of the season is already reflected all throughout the collections.

This season, the LC Waikiki Woman has everything she needs to enjoy every moment of her time spent under the sun. From Safari looks to sailor stripes, from romantic florals to the clothes inspired by the summer music festivals, she has a wide selection of clothes and accessories to choose from. An equally wide swimwear collection also shows off the LC Waikiki Woman on the beach. If you are planning to go on a vacation soon, before purchasing any swimwear, be sure to check out our magazine’s pages that evoke the smell and sound of the sea.

Popular summer holiday destinations from Turkey and abroad dictate menswear at LC Waikiki this season. In other words,

when Mister LC Waikiki picks where to go this summer, he is also picking the ideal clothes to take with him. And once he is back in town with a suntan, positive emotions that reflect holiday memories keep on lingering on his clothes.

At LC Waikiki, summer and vacation is not an ongoing theme in Women and Men collections only, the LC Waikiki Teens, Kids and Babies also get their share from the happy mood of the season, with a collection of colourful, comfortable, functional, and most importantly, fashionable clothes. For happy times spent on the beach, they will find the best selection of swimwear in all age ranges, too.

LCWORLD is not just about fashion and style. In this particular issue, you will also find our selection of best European beaches to start planning your next trip. Because summer is the party season, we’ve also gathered the best celebrity-inspired hair and makeup ideas for you to steal. And while Ryan Gosling is set to star in two new movies this summer, we take a closer look at his career.

Enjoy reading. Enjoy the summer season.

Zoom WHITE

Wearing white is the perfect way to stay cool as the temperature rises, and the designers know this fact very well. If you need proof, just take a look

at the international Spring/Summer 2013 collections. This season, while the designers played with the colour white, lots of silks and lace, as well as smart fabrics hit the catwalks. And they all gave us pretty good reasons to dress in head-to-toe white. While the summer is in the city, you will find the perfect whites for your wardrobe at LC Waikiki.

When Elizabeth Hurley wore that infamous Ver-

sace safety pin dress to the Lon-don premiere of the film “Four Weddings And A Funeral” back in 1994, overnight, the skin-baring number launched the then-relatively-unknown model onto the global media stage and a whole new career was right in front of her. The iconic dress, nowadays simply referred to as “That Dress”, also helped promote the Versace brand by being the fashion house’s best-known creation to date. Fast forward the time to 2013… For the Spring/Summer season, Irish designer J.W. Anderson has been snatched up by Ver-sus – Versace’s diffusion line - to design a capsule collection, and the result is more safety pins. While the legacy of Versace is adapted to the modern times, Punk and street fashion make a scene. That is J.W. Anderson expressing a theme that tran-scends ages.

If you are a Depeche Mode fan but never been to a DM concert to hear them play their favou-

rite songs live, here is the deal: The members of the famous British music band prove that concert halls are not the only places to meet with their fans, by releasing a 420-page book, titled “Monument”. From parties and clubs, to lost demo tapes and unpublished photographs, the book handles all the culture around the band, which makes it a perfect coffee table edi-tion for the ultimate Depeche Mode fan.

FROM BURBERRY

Fashion and economy has long been dictating the skirt hemlines. In the 1920s skirts were short; in the 30s they suddenly started to come down. Then there was war and the designers made skirts short-er to cut costs. 50s saw longer hemlines, while in the 60s everyone wore the shortest skirts. It’s the year 2013. Mini, midi, maxi… When it comes to hemlines, the only theory seems to be that the skirt returns in a big way. And if you take a closer look at the street style blogs, which are more influen-tial than the catwalk these days, it won’t be wrong to say that the longer hemlines are a bit more in fashion.

MAXI

Talk about humanising technology, and leave it to Burberry. The British fashion house has recently partnered with Google to launch a new in-

novative and romantic project called Burberry Kisses. It is basically a virtual kissing booth which enables users to send a kiss to anyone in the world, using their mobile phone or computers. If you head to kisses.burberry.com now and plant a kiss on the screen, you will be able to watch it transform into a digital kiss print. You then have the option to select a lipstick shade (from Burberry’s latest beauty collection, of course), add a message and send it to someone you love. Once sent, using Google Earth technologies, you can also watch your kiss being transported from wherever you are to wherever in the world your recipient is.

As if changing the way that the Parisian women dress through her luxury-meets-

street-fashion RTW collections that have soon become perennial cool-girl favorite all over the world wasn’t enough, Frenchie fash-ion designer Isabel Marant is now spreading her effortlessly hip design approach to skate decks while paying homage to street culture. To celebrate the opening of her new Los An-geles shop, Isabel Marant and French bicycle and board makers Heritage Paris have joined forces to create two limited-edition skate-boards featuring the designer’s signature Mr. Hatman character. Leave it to Isabel Marant – a board-riding fan herself – to bring pedal power back into vogue.

World-renowned photographer and music video director Anton Corbijn began his feature film career with “Con-

This time, the life to be portrayed belongs to the famous 50s actor James Dean who sadly passed away at the age of 24. The film focuses on the story of the friendship and collaborations between Life Magazine photographer Dennis Stock and James Dean. MARC BY…It looks like there is a handover ceremony

at the helm of Marc Jacobs. Yes, you read it right. British designers Katie Hillier and Luella Bartley are announced to head up Marc by Marc Jacobs - the sister label to Marc Jacobs, founded in 2001. In a first for the diffusion line, designer Marc Jacobs will take a backseat, while his dream team takes control of the collections. But of course, Marc Jacobs is still the man who is overseeing everything and making the final decisions. Katie Hillier has been working as a consultant for Marc by Marc Jacobs, and Luella Bartley is a well known name in the industry for her eponymous label, which folded in 2009 after facing finan-cial difficulties. The new duo is expected to present their first Marc by Marc Jacobs collection for Autumn/Winter 2014-15.

It’s finally summertime in the Northern Hemisphere. In other words, it is time to update our wardrobes with fresh new pieces that are in line with the spirit of summer. Where shall we begin? On the one hand, the safari look is back with urban attitude and better than ever for the summer. On the other hand, being inspired by a particular mood of the music festivals, the free-spirited hippie looks make a comeback with a mixture of ethnic colours and prints. Spring florals get a new makeover with a surprisingly dark colour scheme and

turn garments into pastoral, night scene oil paintings. And that classic, timeless nautical look is once again here for the summer. It’s another shopping marathon for most of us. And while the list goes on with bikinis and one-piece swimsuits, flip flops and sandals to buy, it becomes crucial to think before you shop and be a smart spender. Here is a tip for you: Mix everyday wardrobe essentials with the latest catwalk trends, and be the smartest fashionista in town!

by rich floral prints and intense geometric patterns to create a more

10 Beauty Tips for the Summer

Sun protection is essential during summer. To avoid early skin ag-ing, brown spots and skin cancer, make sure you apply sunscreen every three hours with special at-tention to the areas of your body that are most exposed to the sun.

1

23

You are late at home from the par-ty feeling very tired. You need toothpicks to keep your eyes open. It’s that bad. But no excuses! Before your head hits the pillow, you must remove your makeup and wash your face thor-oughly. Your skin needs to be cleaner than ever during summer. Using face-cleansing wipes is a prac-tical way to treat yourself nicely at the end of the day.

Is cellulite preventing you to wear your bikini or swimsuit with pride? Well, here is a practical solution: To re-duce the appearance of cel-lulite use a waterproof spray tan and mask them. It will help reduce the dimpled ap-pearance and provide you with firmer-looking legs.

Summer doesn’t have to be hard on your hair. To keep your hair healthy, rinse it with fresh water before swimming in the sea or pool, since wet hair roots are less likely to be affected from salt and chlorine. Make sure you rinse your hair after swimming as well.

Like you, your makeup bag suffers from hot weather conditions too. Therefore, you have to store them appropriately. Since extreme tem-peratures will shorten the life span your cosmetic products, make sure to store them at least in the inner depths of your bag. Don’t forget that sun-proof cosmetics last longer.

When your self tanner gives you orange palms, washing your hands with soap and water will be not sufficient to get rid of them. To remove tanning lotion stains, rub your hands with a small slice of lemon. Teeth whitening toothpaste work equally well in removing those or-ange stains on your palms.

When holidaying with friends, you are likely to share your personal be-longings with them. Suntan lo-tions, hats or sunglasses can be shared. But you should keep your eyelash comb,

mascara applicator or foundation sponge to yourself. Even if there is not an eye infection or pallid in sight, such products are an invitation to potential cross infection especially in hot weather.

4

5 67

89

10

To get a super soft skin, use sugar scrubs. Sugar scrubs are used not only for exfoliation, but also their gentle, effective exfo-liation creates a smoother skin. After taking a bath, take a palm full of sugar and scrub your face and lips. While the sugar melts in water, your skin will start to re-juvenate.

Summer is all about changing your beauty routine, while using your

shields against the harmful rays of sun, humid weather and bacteria. Here are a few necessary tips to make it an easygoing summer.

Funda ahinba Ho kalHere is a perfect fa-cial mask for summer: Smash a peach, mix it with honey and apply to your skin for a flawless complexion. Rinse well after 15 minutes.

Your cuticles protect your nails from harmful bacteria and by cutting them you leave your nails vulnerable to infection. When hygiene is para-mount, disposable pedicure kits work the best. Do not use foot file or pumice in the summer. Do not soak your feet if you cannot see the bottom of the pedicure water. If you have an open wound, fungal infection, plantar warts or blisters on your feet, do not have a pedicure. So that you and everybody that visits the salon will not get infected.

29

Page 32: LCWORLD 2013 Summer

Celebrities walking the red carpet are a great source of inspiration

when it comes to dressing up. Here are

some celebrity hair and makeup looks for you to steal and shine like a star at this summer’s

parties.Funda ahinba Ho kal

Be Inspired!

GLAM PUNK Sienna Miller was the talk of the Met Ball with her Glam Punk look. Very good at mixing key pieces, Sienna doesn’t disappoint with her hair and makeup either. Her tousled Rock Chick side-swept hair is perfectly accessorised by a headband of spikes, and the edgy black liner intensifies the green tones of her eyes.

HOLLYWOOD GLAMOUR

Last year, Old Hollywood waves were quite popular among the

celebrities walking the red carpet. Jessica Alba continues the same hair trend, and looks like a classic movie

star at this year’s Golden Globes. The highlights and waves create the shiny texture of her hair. This very

same style is also suitable for straight hair. And Jessica Alba’s bold orange

lipstick is just perfect.

SHORT & CHIC

If you have a desire for

short hair cuts but not

the courage to take the

plunge, be inspired by

Charlize Theron. Charlize

Theron’s ultra-short buzz

cut shows off her beautiful

features perfectly as well

as her natural makeup,

whereas her darkened

eyelashes draw all the

attention.

TOP KNOT BUN

Jennifer Lopez’s super sleek top knot bun is an ideal choice for the summer, whether on the beach or at the party. It just goes well with any kind of outfit. J. Lo rocked her top knot bun with cateye makeup, but you may also go with a natural-looking face.

RETRO WAVES

Amy Adams’ hair colour has become a growing trend in the recent years. You may want to copy her hair in terms of colour and retro waves at this summer’s parties. Amy Adams’ twisted bun and understated makeup accent her off the shoulder gown, which makes it an ideal choice for the brides as well. Whether you are the host or a guest at the party, you will surely rock with this style.

HELLENISTIC HAIRSTYLE

Taylor Swift’s braided up-do is a popular hair trend that easily go from day to night.

The braided headbands are the new hair accessories that work well on messy up-dos. In Taylor Swift’s case, the milkmaid braid is accented by her signature blunt

fringe to create an ethereal and goddess-like look. If the idea of cutting a fringe doesn’t appeal to you, you may try a

fringe wig. But we strongly recommend fringes to those with wide foreheads and

in search of modernity.

LOOSE BUN

Naomi Watts ensured that the eye-catching neckline of her glimmering gown show off with her up-do. Her volumized messy bun hair is back-combed, and made more modern with a tousled texture and loose, face-framing tendrils. Her eye makeup is accented with metallic effects, a technique which goes well with tanned or white skin, as well as with pastel pink lips and cheeks.

HIGH BUNS

Oscar–winner Jennifer Lawrence was the star of the night with her hair and makeup style that suited perfectly to her gorgeous, romantic gown. She preferred a twisted, swept-back bun and minimal makeup with powder pink lips, which result in an overall princess look.

BUBBLE PONYTAILS

Blake Lively added wow factor to her bubble ponytail and natural makeup with pendant earrings. This hairstyle works well particularly when wearing a bareback dress. To achieve this effortless looking hair, create one ponytail with the top sec-tion of your hair and then loop your hair through to create another. St.TropezFrench fashion spirit is at its favourite summer destination!

After a long day at the beach, while strolling the streets of

St. Tropez, you won’t need more than a fitted shirt and a

pair of stylish bermuda shorts to create an effortless look.

Remember to put more light colours in your suitcase as they

compliment your tanned skin tone best.

MiamiHot and humid weather dictates fashion in Miami. There-fore, vibrant colours or neutral tones, as well as airy fab-rics, are essential. While packing, try to avoid blacks and browns. And if you insist on carrying a pair of trousers with you (which is logical, as people get dressed up at nights in Miami), make sure you wear them rolled up.

CapriSince the 1950s, Capri has been one of the most popular holi-

day destinations in Europe. When it comes to packing for this

hot spot, one needs to keep in mind that it is like a style compe-

tition out there. The good news is, comfort is the main element

that the judges are looking for in your outfit. Short sleeve shirts

are ideal for pre and post beach hours. And of course, you can-

not make it without a pair of capri pants in Capri.

IbizaIf there is a dress code in Ibiza, then it is to showcase colour-ful, fresh and laid back looks one after the other. Therefore, it is time to take those colourful t-shirts and shorts out of your closet, and let them see the light of day under the Bale-aric sun. Don’t forget to bring a pair of sandals or flip flops as well. You will be spending the entire day in them.

AlaçatFor a summer holiday of windy days at the beach and

fun nights in the streets of Alaçat , our style advice is

to pack Polo shirts and short sleeve shirts in different

shades. Also, be prepared for Çe me’s windy climate

and chilly evenings, and make sure to add a few pair of

trousers to your travel bag.

Summer'sformula

It’s quite hot out there, and one needs to take some precautions. But no worries… Multivitamins can help you with fatigue and

make you feel stronger. Here are summer’s best style tips and a few essential multivitamins.

Electric Blue Either a nice looking shirt or a good pair of shoes… A touch of electric blue in your summer ensemble will surely make you feel good. A lightweight fabric shirt in electric blue will highlight your tanned skin. Wear it with white or camel pants to highlight the shirt itself.

The Linen Suit In the summer, wearing a suit, unless it is a must at the office, makes you feel hot and sweaty. The solution: Linen suits in bright colours. When you need to look ‘smart’ despite the hot weather, wear your jacket with shorts instead of trousers. To avoid feeling hot and sweaty, make sure

there is enough place for linen suits in your summer closet.

Put Your Sunglasses OnSunglasses are essential for eye health

and completing your summer attire. Enter Super, a new brand which has generated

a big trend in sunglasses by successfully combining street culture with good Italian

style. Our favourite? Definitely, the Super-Panama Quasimodo.

The Palm Tree Print Among all of the summery prints, palm tree motif is my favourite . Maybe it is the good vibe that it creates or the eye-catching colours that generally accompany the print. I just love how the palm tree pattern goes well with everything in the summer. Whether it’s a t-shirt, belt, hat or a pair of socks, make sure you are wearing something with a palm tree print on it. It is a cure for fatigue without any side effects.

Iron DeficiencyNautical but nice… It ’s t ime to carry a naut ica l s ty le watch on your wrist to br ing out that summery feel ing in you. I t ’s a lso a good investment. Who knows, maybe that watch cures your i ron def ic iency.

White Shirt + Denim ShortsOne of the top 5 style combos to look effortlessly stylish is the white shirt and denim shorts ensemble. It’s easy to look cool this way. And to achieve this look, you don’t need to go shopping and grow your credit card bills by buying expensive stuff. Why not shop your own closet? Pick up an old pair of jeans that you don’t wear very often, cut the legs up slightly above the knee and make them into shorts. Go one step further and bleach out your denim shorts to show your own style and wear it with a nice looking belt. Not satisfied? Take out those acrylic paints you bought for your art class and use your brush to paint splatter your jeans. There you go… It’s a new and unique pair of jeans that you will not be able to find at any store. o find at any store.

The Yellow PoloAnother way to beat summer fatigue is to wear

yellow polo shirts. Throw away the black ones you already have and invest in a bright yellow one. Wear it with purple pants and sky blue deck shoes to get

the best results.

Ryan Thomas Gosling is originally coming from a Canadian, blue-collar Mormon family. His father is a sales representative and his mother is a secretary. Because of his father’s work, they moved around a lot in the many regions of Ontario. When his parents divorced when he was still a child, and he and his older sister lived with their mother. Ryan Gosling was often bullied by other kids in elementary school, and had no friends until he was 14-15. He hardly managed to read and write because of his attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. His mother had to call in private teachers for his education. Getting away from school bestowed him, as he says ‘a sense of autonomy which I’ve never lost again’.

Ryan Gosling performed from an early age. He and his sister sang together at weddings, and he was also involved with a local ballet company. Performing boosted his interest for acting and also self-confidence. When he was 12, he found irregular roles in Disney Channel’s Mickey Mouse Club in Montreal. For two years he sang and danced with a group of friends, which included other future-stars such as Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. They were flat mates with Justin T. for six months and became close friends.

At the age of 17, Ryan Gosling dropped out of high school to pursue a career in acting. He went to the other side of the world, New Zealand, for a new adventure TV series called “Young Hercules”. But when he turned 19, he realized that he was about to get stuck on TV, and decided to leave to movie into serious film projects. It was in 2000 that he had a supporting role in his first feature movie “Remember the Titans”. In the following year, he played his first leading role as the Jewish Neo-Nazi Danny in “The Believer”. The movie was a financial failure with its 1,5 million-dollar budget and controversial story, however both Henry Bean, director of the movie, and Gosling received an award for their parts. In 2002’s “Murder by Numbers”, where he and Michael Pitt portrayed a pair of high school seniors who believed they can commit the perfect murder, he, in a way, took the back seat.

However, Ryan Gosling came to the attention of a mainstream audience when nobody expected it. A romantic drama, “The Notebook”, where he shared the big screen with Rachel McAdams, gave the actor an opportunity to play a character from the 1940s. Although he became romantically involved with

The Guy with a Distant Gaze

RYAN GOSLINGOne of the finest actors of the 2000s, who is a pleasure to watch on the big screen for the cinephiles, has to be Ryan Gosling. He is certainly an actor to respect, not only because of the movies he chooses to take part in and the mature performances he displays in them, but also for his stance in the world of cinema. As a small kid he was heavily influenced by the film “First Blood”, also known as “Rambo”. Right after watching the movie, he took steak knives, placed them under his belt, and run to school to throw them at other children during recess. The incident, in which he was very much inspired by Sylvester Stallone, led to a suspension, of course. Perhaps, it was an early rehersal for his first action role in the movie “Drive”. In fact, the reason why Ryan loves to act is because ‘acting gives him the opportunity to act as crazy as he wishes’. Burçin S. Yalç n

Page 59: LCWORLD 2013 Summer

Rachel McAdams after the movie, on the set, they couldn’t get along at all. Despite making a love story and not getting along with each other, the audience loved the movie. It grossed 115 million dollars worldwide and appeared on many most romantic movies of the 2000s lists. But “Stay”, where he shared the screen with Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor in 2005 was understood by no one.

2006 was a year when Ryan Gosling cornered one of the critical twists of his career. He was, for the first time, nominated for an Academy Award for his portrayal of Dan Dunne - a drug addict teacher working at a junior high school - in “Half Nelson”. The Academy took notice, and his name was now heard among the A class actors of Hollywood. However he never fancied big-budget Hollywood productions. He peferes to play in low-budget, indie movies. “I understand the studios” he says, “When they spend 100 million dollars for a movie, they want to be sure that they’ll get their money back. But how can you guarantee that they will? I am not comfortable to work with a big budget.” What Ryan Gosling wants is an interesting character to play, and a like-minded director. After a role in “Lars and the Real Girl” in 2007, Ryan Gosling gave a short break to cinema.

In 2010, he made a comeback with indie, character-based dramas. “Blue Valentine” with Michelle Williams and “All Good Things” with Kirsten Dunst gave him the possibility to portray interesting characters. 2011 was the year Ryan Gosling shot and scored, as he expanded his horizons by appearing in three diverse, high-profile roles. In his first comedic role “Crazy, Stupid, Love”, he played a gigolo who gave womanizing courses to the goofy husband Cal, played by Steve Carell. The movie was a box

office success, and Gosling received a Golden Globe nomination for his role. The same year, he also made his way into the world of action movies with “Drive” – a movie that received rave reviews in Cannes. His performance was like “an iron fist in a velvet glove”, and the movie was considered among the best movies of the year. In his final appearance of 2011, Gosling was directed by George Clooney, whom he is often pointed as a successor for, in the political drama “The Ides of March”. The movie, in which he played an ambitious press secretary, was not on the forefront at the Oscars, but it was a politically aware movie. Gosling, who opened the movie season for 2013 with “Gangster Squad”, has two other films awaiting release this summer: “The Place Beyond the Pines” and “Only God Forgives”. Maybe because he jumped into so many projects with gluttony that a couple of months ago he stated he will be taking a short break from acting. Let’s hope he keeps the break short indeed.

“When they spend 100 million dollars for a movie, they want to be sure that they’ll get their money back. But how can you guarantee that they will?”

Perfect beaches,Perfect beaches, just a stone’s throw away just a stone’s throw awayYou don’t need to jet off to the Caribbean or the Maldives for the ultimate beach holiday. This summer, discover the dream- like beaches of Europe on your holiday. Zeynep Yosun Akverdi

Sardinia, ItalyItaly’s touristic cities attract millions from all over the world with their historical and attractive environment. However, Sardinia Is-land is different. Located on the north coast of Italy, the island lacks historical sights; instead it offers plenty of white sandy beaches for all budget types and tastes. One of the 20 partly autonomous regions in Italy, Sardinia, every summer attracts large number of foreign tourists to its spectacular coastline. The turquoise sea ri-vals the tropics, and the crystal-clear water makes it ideal for both swimmers and scuba divers. Skip the quite expensive Costa Smer-alda arena - located on the northern coast, where celebrities, luxury pursuers and paparazzis collide – and head up to Spiaggia Rosa instead. The fabulous Spiaggia Rosa, of the island of Budelli – an island in the Maddalena archipelago in northern Sardinia, which has recently been declared a National Park due to its rich fauna and flora - owes its name to the pink colour of its sand. If you are on a cruise ship and lucky enough, you might end up encountering a sperm whale. Another modest beach on the island is the Is Arutas. This beach stretches for several miles, delivering a perfect place for long walks, and the last thing you will encounter are the unneces-sary crowds. The clear sea with colours that change from green to blue, is more beautiful than one can imagine. The micro-world that the small white pieces of quartz forming the beach is astonishing. With colours ranging from pink to green, white to grey, the sand is so shiny that it dazzles even more than a direct gaze at the sun (so, don’t forget to bring your sunglasses). The windy Is Arutas is also an ideal location for surfers. Chia Beach, at one hour distance from the capital of Sardinia, Cagliari, is another tranquil beach, ideal to grab a book and relax. With a forest of Juniper trees and sand dunes as the backdrop to the beautiful white sand lapped by the turquoise water, the beach has a peaceful atmosphere. On your lucky day you might catch a glimpse of the dolphins here, and the lagoon behind the beach is a flamingo breeding ground. Chia Beach offers all sorts of beach facilities, including restaurants and cafes as well as a range of water sports and bird-watching tours. In Sardinia, those who are looking for a lively beach should head up to Poetto. Ca-gliari’s main beach is also the most popular, where people gather to socialize and party till the early hours of the next morning. Poetto is rather crowded but since it is the longest stretch of beach in Italy, the crowds don’t bother you that much. (Unless it’s August, when all Italy, or so it seems, stops work to holiday.) Poetto is home to beach walkers, joggers, swimmers and sand artists during the day, and turns into a party scene right after the sunset.

Travel

Page 61: LCWORLD 2013 Summer

Biarritz, FranceWith coastline on both the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, France, unsurprisingly, is home to some of Europe’s most popular beaches. From Cannes to St. Tro-pez and Nice, the French Riviera has been welcoming the interna-tional jet set and their mega-yachts for many years. But let’s leave those star-studded beaches aside and steer our wheels to a different spot which has recently become popular. This year’s Travelers’ Choice Award winner beach is none of the above, but the Cote des Basques in Biar-ritz - a seaside resort on the Atlantic Ocean, located only a few kilome-tres from the Spanish border. Of-fering an ideal mix of French and Spanish culture, Biarritz is home to various luxury resorts, which make it another hot spot for the rich

and famous. However, this seaside town has also been a mecca for the young vacationers and sports enthu-siasts alike, ever since Biarritz was named the surfing capital of Europe in 1957. Every year, thousands of people from all over the world rush here to surf the waves instead of spending their money on expensive resorts. The long beach has some-thing for everyone, and the posh and sporty enjoy the ocean breeze sitting side by side. The relavitely rugged coastline and rocky peaks may seem a little bit wild and un-kempt at first glance, but the mod-est restaurants and bars at the city centre are good enough to please everyone. July and August are the busiest months for tourism. So if you want to avoid crowds, make sure to go in the two months prior to or after the high season.

Brac, CroatiaThe next beach on our list resembles

Ölüdeniz in Fethiye from a bird’s eye

point of view and brings the Golden

Horn to mind with its name: Zlatni

Rat. Literally meaning “Golden

Horn”, Zlatni Rat is located on the

south side of the island, and it is not

only the most spectacular beach in

Croatia, but also in the whole of

Europe. A typical island on the Adri-

atic coast, chief occupations in Brac

are fishing, wine production and

olive growing, and tourism is a ma-

jor source of income for the island.

The island of glittering sea, peaceful

towns and friendly people... You can

make your way to the Brac Island by

a 45-minute boat trip from Split – a

major port town on the Dalmatian

coast, and to Zlatni Rat by a scenic

car ride. With its golden beach and

blue sea, the most photogenic beach

in Croatia, Zlatni Rat has a unique

shape, like a white tongue stretched

500 metres into the sea. There are

beaches on both sides of the tongue-

like peninsula. It is unique also for

the fact that the tongue changes

shape and position, depending on

the wind. The beach is ideal for all

sorts of water sports and suitable for

windsurfing. The water temperature

and breezy air also make it ideal for

swimming or just laying around the

beach. Zlatni Rat offers a restaurant,

cafes, various water sports establish-

ments as well as windsurfing and

scuba diving schools. There is also a

nudist beach nearby. As a bonus, the

beach offers breathtaking sunset and

sunrise views.

Costa Brava, SpainCosta Brava is a Mediterranean coastal region of northeastern Spain, stretching from Blanes, 60 kilome-tres northeast of Barcelona, to the French border. The literal translation of the name is “Wild” or “Rough”, however Costa Brava, attracting mil-lions from all over the world towards a trio of sun-sea-sangria every year, is not that wild. In fact, the recent expansion of tourism settlements has rapidly deprived this feature of the region. Still, Costa Brava offers a plethora of beaches with crystal-clear water and dramatic landscapes, which make it a popular choice for a calm and peaceful beach holiday. One of these beaches, which we strongly recommend that you visit during the early season (May-June) or late season (September-October), is the Platja de Pals near Palamós. Thanks to the environmentally con-

scious local community, the area is saved from excessive urbanization, and instead of high-rise buildings the bay is fringed by a pine tree forest. The area is ideal for scuba diving or trekking. The vast Gandia Beach is more popular with the Spanish than foreign tourists. Beyond its fine sand, the beach is surrounded by local res-taurants and bars. But those who are looking for a splendid peaceful cor-ner should head up to Aigua Blava, which with its crystal-clear water and bright sand, offers a relatively small but calm hideaway. The Tamariu Beach, on the other hand, has a lively atmosphere. The water is won-defully clear, the beach is sandy and white, and surrounded by Costa Bra-va’s finest restaurants and boutiques. You can spend the day skating or jogging at the seashore, or just relax-ing while soaking up the sun. And the evening is for parties.

How did your paths crossed with the brand?I graduated from the Y ld z Technical University, Department of Mechanical Engineering in 1990. I also obtained my master’s degree from the same department. I spent 14 years at Philips working at Istanbul, Dubai and Vienna divisions, and later on, as the chairman in charge of Western Europe and North America markets, at the company headquarters in Amsterdam. I returned to Turkey in 2011 and started to work as the CEO of Do an Online. And now at LC Waikiki, my job title is International Retail Manag-ing Director. LC Waikiki is a brand that I have been following for many years; a great success story. I think the brand was interested in me for the fact that I have been working in the global markets for quite a long time. We can say that our paths crossed, because LC Waikiki’s plans for becoming a global brand and my personal experiences matched.

What are the near future targets of LC Waikiki in terms of international growth? Our process of globalization started in 2009. Today, we have 52 stores in 16 countries. Every one of our stores is approximately one thousand square metres, with around 100 personnel working. So we are talking about a total of 50-60 thousand square meters. Our initial aim is to increase the number of these stores to 80 by the end of the year.

Currently, we have stores in Albania, Azerbaijan, Bosnia, Bul-garia, Georgia, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Egypt, Poland, Romania, Rus-sia, Syria, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Ukraine and Iran. Our focus in 2013 is on international growth. By the end of the year, we are planning to increase the number of our stores in the countries that we exist, and also enter into new markets such as Macedonia, Kosovo, Serbia, Tunisia, Algeria, Libya and Lebanon. Our target is to reach 200 overseas stores by the year 2015.

Your priority is on proliferation in the near markets. Do you have plans for other markets as well?We are planning to grow in the near markets first, as they are also the developing markets. As our chairman of the board, Vahap Küçük says; our main target is to become the playmaker in these countries and be the market leader. We also have future plans to expand in India, Indonesia and some African countries. We have positioned our brand as a global playmaker and we will continue expanding in circles.

The 2023 (the year when Turkey will reach the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Republic) vision of LC Waikiki is to take its place amongst the top three apparel brands in Europe, and in doing so, the company has changed its growth direction to the international markets. Yenal Göky ld r m, In-ternational Retail Managing Director of LC Waikiki, who plans to raise the number of stores to 80 by the end of 2013, talks about new strategies and targets. Dilek Özen

1 LC Waikiki’s ecology laboratory in Istanbul started off with one personnel only. Today, there are 90 employees working at the

same laboratory. (Together with the other two branches, the total number of lab personnel is 150.) Accredited by the Turkish Ac-creditation Agency, a total investment over $3M was spent for the laboratory in Istanbul in the last few years.

2 In 2010, in order to control productions, as well as to ensure compliance with all regulatory (both ecological and technical)

product requirements, LC Waikiki founded two more product quality and ecology laboratories in China and Bangladesh. The laboratories located in Shangai (China) and Dhaka (Bangladesh) offer an extensive range of specialised tests including colour-fast-ness, physical, fiber composition and eco-testing. At the three labs, over 960 thousand products are being tested within a year.

3 The three labs offer testing service only for LC Waikiki prod-ucts, not for any other textile company. Each test is performed

prior to the buying process. The products that fail any of the tests are discarded.

4The laboratories offer physical and chemical testing ser-vices including colour-fastness to washing, colour-fastness

to sweating, colour-fastness to daylight, tear strength, tensile strength as well as calculating fiber blend ratios.

5 Occupational Safety and Health specialists supervise all laboratory personnel. The laboratory is also professionally

inspected often and thoroughly for occupational safety and health standards.

In 2003, as part of its environmen-tal protection and consumer health and safety policy, LC Waikiki estab-

lished an ecology laboratory within its head-quarters. Initially specialised in physical and colour-fastness testing, the laboratory, with new investments in 2005, started eco-testing as well. In the following year, the same lab added fiber composition testing to its opera-tions. With this laboratory, LC Waikiki broke new grounds in the apparel retailing industry.

At the three ecology laboratories founded by LC Waikiki in the last 10 years, over 960 thousand products

are being tested within a year.

Just another day at the studio, getting ready for shooting!

A frozen moment in time! LC Waikiki Summer 2013…

No, this is not a campaign image.

Everyone on the set wants a picture with our XSIDE model. Modeling

is a tough job.

Our photographer Ümit is conducting the teen models to get the best results.

XSIDE campaign images start falling onto the computer screen.

For how long are we supposed to keep this up?

And shooting time for the LC Waikiki Teens…

Our XSIDE female model is warming up

for the shoot.

It looks like our stylist Tu ba has already dressed the first LC Waikiki look.

On another corner, XSIDE models are busy getting ready for the set.

Our LC Waikiki female model is getting her makeup done.

The final retouches to our LC Waikiki male model’s hair. In just a few minutes he will be smiling at the camera.
