Saint of the Month First appearing in the gospels of Matthew and Luke, Saint Joseph was the earthly father of Jesus Christ and the husband of the Virgin Mary.

Who was Saint Joseph?

Venerated as a saint in many Christian sects, Saint Joseph is a biblical figure who is believed to have been the corporeal father of Jesus Christ. Joseph first appears in the bible in the gospels of Matthew and Luke; in Matthew, Joseph’s lineage is traced back to King David. According to the Bible, Joseph was born circa 100 BC and later wed the virgin Mary, Jesus’ mother. He died in Israel circa 1 A.D.

Facts and Fiction Everything we know about Saint Joseph, the husband of Mary and the foster father of Jesus, comes from the Bible, and mentions of him are underwhelming. The 13 New Testament books written by St. Paul (the Epistles) make no reference to him at all, nor does the Gospel of Mark, the first of the Gospels. Joseph first appears in the bible in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke, one of which (Matthew) traces Joseph’s lineage back to King David.

To add to the problem of not knowing enough about Joseph, some apocryphal writings—such as the second-century Protevangelium of James and the fourth-century History of Joseph the Carpenter—muddy the historical wters further, presenting him as a widower with children when he met Mary and claiming that he lived to the age of 111. These claims, however, are spurious and are not accepted by the church.

Marriage to Mary

After marrying Mary, Joseph found that she was already pregnant, and being “a just man and unwilling to put her to shame” (Matt. 1:19), he decided to divorce her quietly, knowing that if he did so publicly, she could be stoned to death. An angel, however, came to Joseph and told him that the child Mary carried was the son of God and was conceived by the Holy Spirit, so Joseph kept Mary as his wife.

After Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem, an angel came to Joseph again, this time to warn him and Mary about King Herod of Judaea and the violence he would bring down upon the child. Joseph then fled to Egypt with Mary and Jesus, and the angel appeared again, telling Joseph that Herod had died and instructing him to return to the Holy Land.

Avoiding Bethlehem and possible actions by Herod’s successor, Joseph, Mary, and Jesus settled in Nazareth, in Galilee. The Gospels describe Joseph as a “tekton,” which traditionally has meant “carpenter,” and it is assumed that Joseph taught his craft to Jesus in Nazareth. At this point, however, Joseph is never mentioned again by name in the Bible—although the story of Jesus in the temple includes a reference to “both his parents.”

Death and Sainthood

The circumstances of Joseph’s death are not known, but it is likely that he died before Jesus’ ministry began, and it is implied that he was dead before the Crucifixion (John 19:26-27). Already a patron saint of Mexico, Canada, and Belgium, in 1870, Joseph was declared patron of the universal church by Pope Pius IX, and in 1955, Pope Pius XII established May 1 as the “Feast of Saint Joseph the Worker” to counter the Communists’ May Day.

Feminists Disappointed

After Their Own Poll

Shows Millennials Don’t

Rabidly Support Abortion NATIONAL MICAIAH BILGER FEB 20,

2020 | 1:39PM WASHINGTON, DC

A new poll commissioned by the pro-abortion magazine Teen Vogue did not get the results that abortion activists had hoped.

Conducted by IPSOS among 18-34 year old voters, the poll found that abortion is not a top priority for Millennials at the voting booth.

This puzzled the abortion activists at Teen Vogue because, according to them, “we live in a time when abortion is perhaps more at risk than it has been since Roe v. Wade was decided in 1973.” They noted that states passed 25 pro-life laws in 2019, and the U.S. Supreme Court is scheduled to hear an important abortion case in March. It did not make sense to them why young voters are not more worried. “Since the majority of people who have abortions fall within the age range of those polled, why don’t more voters prioritize reproductive rights?” they asked. The poll found that Millennial voters do tend to be more supportive of abortion than the general population, but they do not consider it a voting priority. According to the poll, “abortion seems to fall to the bottom of what they prioritize when they choose a candidate.” Here’s more from the article:

Of the 2,206 respondents to the poll, only 20% ranked reproductive rights a top priority for American political leaders to address. Twenty-eight percent ranked it a

high priority, while 27% said it was somewhat of a priority. Of the respondents who did rank abortion a high priority, most were women, and most fell in the 18-24 age range. Democrats were most likely to rank reproductive rights a top priority, with 26% ranking it so, while 14% of Republicans and 17% of Independents agreed. According to IPSOS, young voters ranked healthcare

(92%), the economy (91%) and education (91%) as their top priorities when voting. The poll did find support for taxpayer-funded abortions among young voters, but it also found that young voters support allowing states to restrict abortions after a certain period in pregnancy. According to the poll: “Six in ten Republicans support allowing states restrict the timing of abortion (63%), compared to 34% of Democrats and 48% of Independents. Just over eight in ten Democrats support allowing federal funding for women’s health and family planning services, including abortion (81%) while 49% of Republicans say the same.” In contrast, a 2019 poll of Millennial voters commissioned by Students for Life of America found that a large majority oppose unlimited abortions up to birth and taxpayer-funded abortions. Just 7% shared the position of the Democratic Party Platform, which supports abortion without restriction and taxpayer-funded abortions. Consistently through the years, polling data has shown that the abortion issue is more motivating to pro-life voters than it is to abortion advocates. Polling among all age groups also consistently finds strong opposition to abortion without restriction up to birth and taxpayer-funded abortions — the position of the current Democratic presidential candidates. The contrast between the 2020 presidential candidates on abortion could not be more stark. All of the top Democrat candidates support abortions without restriction through all nine months of pregnancy and want to force taxpayers to pay for them. The party platform boasts a radical pro-abortion agenda as well. In 2012, Democrat leaders removed the word “rare” from their abortion platform, and, in 2016, added language calling for taxpayer-funded abortions. Bernie Sanders and Pete Buttigieg recently even refused to welcome pro-life Democrats into the party. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has developed a strong

record of enacting pro-life policies, appointing conservative

judges, defunding abortion providers and exposing the Democrats’ extreme pro-abortion agenda.

The Incorrupt Body of Saint Bernadette Soubirous

"You will not allow your holy one to see corruption" - Psalm 16:10

The Catholic Church is full of mystery and miracles;

those supernatural occurrences in time that display the

power of God for eternity.

Incorruptibility is one of those miracles. And Saint

Bernadette (feast day: April 16) is one of the saints

chosen by God to show forth His power.

Every Ash Wednesday we hear “You are dust and unto dust you shall return.” Death and decay are a fact of life for us mere mortals; all of us, that is, except for God’s chosen few – the Incorruptibles. These are the saints throughout the history of the Church whose bodies have not decayed over time. Even millennia have passed, as in the case of St. Cecelia, without their bodies turning to dust. The light of Christ has always shone brightest in times of darkness, and the 20th century was no exception. Certainly a dark time of apostasy and the disintegration of customs, one light that shone brightly was the canonization of Saint Bernadette Soubirous, the visionary of Lourdes, France. The Life of Saint Bernadette Soubirous (1844-1879)

It could be viewed as ironic that the messenger of Our Lady at Lourdes, a place of healing, should be so burdened by illness throughout her natural life. It seems the miracle of Lourdes was not for her. As a matter of fact, in a vision Our Lady said to Saint Bernadette, “I cannot promise

you happiness in this life, only in the next.” Born into a humble family which little by little fell into extreme poverty, Bernadette had always been a frail child. Quite young, she had already suffered from digestive trouble, then after having just escaped being a victim of the cholera epidemic of 1855, she experienced painful attacks of asthma, and her ill health almost caused her to be cut off forever from the religious life. When asked by Monsignor Forcade to take Bernadette, the Mother Superior of the Sisters of Nevers replied: "Monsignor, she will be a pillar of the infirmary." She lived in the convent for thirteen years, spending a large portion of this time, as predicted by the Mother Superior, ill in the infirmary. When a fellow nun accused her of being a “lazybones,” Bernadette said, “My job is to be ill.” She was gradually struck by other illnesses as well as asthma: among them, tuberculosis of the lung and a tubercular tumor on her right knee. On Wednesday, April 16, 1879, her pain got much worse. Shortly after 11:00 a.m. she seemed to be almost suffocating and was carried to an armchair, where she sat with her feet on a footstool in front of a blazing fire. She died at about 3:15 in the afternoon. She was thirty-five.

Doctor Declares: “Not a Natural Phenomenon” Over the course of the next 46 years, Saint

Bernadette’s body was exhumed no less than three times: the first time in 1909, then again in 1919 and finally in 1925. At the first exhuma-tion, it was quickly evident that a miracle had taken place; Saint Bernadette’s skin tone was perfectly natural. The mouth was open slightly and it could be seen that the teeth were still in place. Although the rosary in her hands had decayed, showing rust and corrosion in some spots, the virginal hands that still grasped it were perfect! The sisters present thoroughly washed the body and clothed it in a new habit before placing it in an officially-sealed double casket.

Page 7: Le Chevalier - Knights of Columbus Council #12164 · Volume 5 Issue 9 Le Chevalier March 2020 p.3 St. Bernadette Council 12164 480-905-0221 Saint of the Month First appearing in the

Volume 5 Issue 9 Le Chevalier March 2020 p.7

St. Bernadette Council 12164 480-905-0221

The second exhumation, in 1919, showed no further evidence of decomposition, though her hands and face had become somewhat discolored due to the well-intended washing given by the nuns ten years prior. A worker in wax was commissioned to create a light wax mask of Saint Bernadette’s hands and face. It was feared that, although the body was preserved, the blackish tinge to the face and the sunken eyes and nose would make an unpleasant impression on the public. That brings us to 1946 and the final disturbing of Saint Bernadette’s resting place. One of the doctors overseeing the final exhumation, Doctor Comte, writes: "From this examination I conclude that the body of the Venerable Bernadette is intact, the skeleton is complete, the muscles have atrophied, but are well preserved; only the skin, which has shriveled, seems to have suffered from the effects of the damp in the coffin. … the body does not seem to have putrefied, nor has any decomposition of the cadaver set in, although this would be expected and normal after such a long period in a vault hollowed out of the earth." The doctor was amazed by the state of preservation of the liver: "What struck me during this examination, of course, was …the totally unexpected state of the liver after 46 years. One would have thought that this organ, which is basically soft and inclined to crumble, would have decomposed very rapidly or would have hardened to a chalky consistency. Yet it was soft and almost normal in consistency. I pointed this out to those present, remarking that this did not seem to be a natural phenomenon." Final Considerations This is truly the body of Bernadette, lifelike in her attitude of meditation and prayer.

This is the face which was lifted eighteen times to the Lady of Lourdes, the very same hands which fingered her rosary during the apparitions, and the fingers which scratched the earth in obedience to Our Lady’s request and made the miraculous spring appear. It seems only right that Our Lord would preserve perfectly those ears which heard the message of Lourdes and the

lips which repeated “the Lady's” name to Father Peyramale; "I am the Immaculate Conception." This is the heart, too, which bore so much love for Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary and sinners. There is a profound understanding in this heart which would one day write, "I was nothing, and of this nothing God made something great. In Holy Communion I am heart to heart with Jesus. How sublime is my destiny." Yes, how very sublime is the destiny of any Catholic who embraces the call of Christ to be a light shining in the darkness of whatever century he finds himself in. And how sublime the destiny of those who find healing in the arms of she who is “the Immaculate Conception.” by Tonia Long, reprinted with permission of America Needs

David Daleiden Could

Go to Prison for

Exposing Planned

Parenthood Selling

Aborted Baby Parts NATIONAL MICAIAH BILGER FEB 21,

2020 | 6:35PM WASHINGTON, DC

David Daleiden woke up the world to the horrendous practices of the abortion industry in 2015 through a series of undercover videos. Now, the undercover journalists could be sent to prison for his work. Daleiden, 31, plans to plead not guilty Friday in California Superior Court to nine felony charges

Page 8: Le Chevalier - Knights of Columbus Council #12164 · Volume 5 Issue 9 Le Chevalier March 2020 p.3 St. Bernadette Council 12164 480-905-0221 Saint of the Month First appearing in the

involving eavesdropping, falsifying documents and

recording people without their consent, the Washington Times reports.

Fellow investigator Sandra Merritt also is facing charges filed by California Attorney General Xavier Becerra. Both are scheduled for arraignment Friday in San Francisco. Andrew Bath, executive vice president of the Thomas More Society, a pro-life legal firm representing Daleiden,

asked people to pray for his case this week. “You and I both know how outrageous the state’s case is against David. But that doesn’t mean this is going to be an easy battle,” Bath said. “In fact, it’s going to be quite the opposite …” Becerra, a Democrat who has received campaign donations from Planned Parenthood, filed the felony charges against Daleiden and Merritt in 2017. California law requires that both parties consent to be recorded. Becerra alleges that Daleiden and Merritt broke the law by undercover filming their conversations with abortionists and others. However, lawyers with Liberty Council, a pro-life legal firm representing Merritt, said, to date, no other citizen journalist or journalism group has ever been charged with a crime for undercover recordings made in the public interest. Daleiden and his fellow investigators maintain that they did not do anything wrong; they are undercover journalists who worked to expose the unethical and potentially illegal harvesting and sales of aborted baby body parts by Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest

abortion provider. Right after Bererra filed the charges, even the liberal Los Angeles Times editorial board slammed the attorney general for threatening citizen journalists and jeopardizing the freedom of the press. “It’s disturbingly aggressive for Becerra to apply this criminal statute to people who were trying to influence a contested issue of public policy, regardless of how sound or popular that policy may be,” the editors wrote. “… The state doesn’t need to threaten the pair with prison time.” In November, Daleiden, Merritt and the Center for Medical Progress lost a civil case to the Planned Parenthood abortion chain. Their lawyers plan to appeal. In that case, Planned Parenthood accused them of more than a dozen crimes, including trespassing, breach of

confidentiality, wiretapping and conspiracy. Their undercover videos did a lot of damage to Planned Parenthood when they revealed the abortion giant’s

baby body parts operation. Not only did the Center for Medical Progress investigation raise concerns about potentially illegal sales of human body parts, but it also uncovered evidence of abortionists allegedly putting women’s lives at greater risk by altering abortion procedures to better harvest aborted baby parts. The investigators also found evidence of possible patient

privacy violations. Daleiden and Merritt believe their prosecution is politically motivated by politicians like Becerra and his predecessor, Kamala Harris, both of whom received huge campaign donations from the abortion industry. No other journalists have been prosecuted for similar undercover investigations under California law, they contend. The undercover investigation exposed numerous atrocities inside Planned Parenthood abortion facilities across the U.S. Its findings prompted investigations by the U.S. House and Senate, as well as a number of states. The committees concluded by recommending that the Department of Justice investigate Planned Parenthood. Both said they found strong evidence that the abortion chain broke the law. The Department of Justice is investigating. Planned Parenthood repeatedly has denied all allegations of wrong-doing, and many news outlets now parrot its talking points that the undercover videos were deceptively edited or debunked, even though that is not true. An independent forensics investigation verified that the videos were authentic. Some undercover videos show how Planned Parenthood employees callously and flippantly negotiated the price of tiny baby hearts, lungs, livers and brains. Other evidence indicates the abortion giant may have broken HIPAA patient privacy laws. The expose videos catching Planned Parenthood officials selling the body parts of aborted babies have shocked the nation. Here is a list of all 14:

In the first video: Dr. Deborah Nucatola of Planned

Parenthood commented on baby-crushing: “We’ve been

very good at getting heart, lung, liver, because we know

that, so I’m not gonna crush that part, I’m gonna basically

crush below, I’m gonna crush above, and I’m gonna see if I

can get it all intact.”

In the second video: Planned Parenthood’s Dr. Mary

Gatter joked, “I want a Lamborghini” as she negotiated the

best price for baby parts.

In the third video: Holly O’Donnell, a former Stem

Express employee who worked inside a Planned

Parenthood clinic, detailed first-hand the unspeakable

Page 9: Le Chevalier - Knights of Columbus Council #12164 · Volume 5 Issue 9 Le Chevalier March 2020 p.3 St. Bernadette Council 12164 480-905-0221 Saint of the Month First appearing in the

atrocities and how she fainted in horror over handling baby

legs.

In the fourth video: Planned Parenthood’s Dr. Savita

Ginde stated, “We don’t want to do just a flat-fee (per

baby) of like, $200. A per-item thing works a little better,

just because we can see how much we can get out of it.”

She also laughed while looking at a plate of fetal kidneys

that were “good to go.”

In the fifth video: Melissa Farrell of Planned Parenthood-

Gulf Coast in Houston boasted of Planned Parenthood’s

skill in obtaining “intact fetal cadavers” and how her

“research” department “contributes so much to the bottom

line of our organization here, you know we’re one of the

largest affiliates, our Research Department is the largest in

the United States.”

In the sixth video: Holly O’Donnell described technicians

taking fetal parts without patient consent: “There were

times when they would just take what they wanted. And

these mothers don’t know. And there’s no way they would

know.”

In the seventh and perhaps most disturbing video: Holly

O’Donnell described the harvesting, or “procurement,” of

organs from a nearly intact late-term fetus aborted at

Planned Parenthood Mar Monte’s Alameda clinic in San

Jose, CA. “‘You want to see something kind of cool,’”

O’Donnell says her supervisor asked her. “And she just

taps the heart, and it starts beating. And I’m sitting here and

I’m looking at this fetus, and its heart is beating, and I don’t

know what to think.”

In the eighth video: StemExpress CEO Cate Dyer admits

Planned Parenthood sells “a lot of” fully intact aborted

babies.

The ninth video: catches a Planned Parenthood medical

director discussing how the abortion company sells fully

intact aborted babies — including one who “just fell out” of

the womb.

The 10th video: catches the nation’s biggest abortion

business selling specific body parts — including the heart,

eyes and “gonads” of unborn babies. The video also shows

the shocking ways in which Planned Parenthood officials

admit that they are breaking federal law by selling aborted

baby body parts for profit.

Unreleased Videos: Unreleased videos from CMP show

Deb Vanderhei of Planned Parenthood caught on tape

talking about how Planned Parenthood abortion business

affiliates may “want to increase revenue [from selling baby

parts] but we can’t stop them…” Another video has a

woman talking about the “financial incentives” of selling

aborted baby body parts.

The 11th video: catches a Texas Planned Parenthood

abortionist planning to sell the intact heads of aborted

babies for research. Amna Dermish is caught on tape

describing an illegal partial-birth abortion procedure to

terminate living, late-term unborn babies which she hopes

will yield intact fetal heads for brain harvesting.

The 12th video in the series shows new footage of

Jennefer Russo, medical director at Planned Parenthood in

Orange County, California, describing to undercover

investigators how her abortion business tries to harvest

intact aborted babies’ bodies for a local for-profit biotech

company and changes the abortion procedure to do so.

The 13th video: exposes a Planned Parenthood medical

director admitting that babies born alive after abortion are

sometimes killed.

The 14th video: catches Planned Parenthood executives

discussing gruesome abortion procedures and the sale of

body parts from aborted babies for profit.

God whispered about the coming

Deliverer throughout the pages of

the Old Testament. He was

preparing us for Jesus, who would

one day speak these words from

the cross:

"It is finished."

Three words that changed the

world.

Three words that changed every

Christ-follower's destiny.

Three words that ended the agony

of our Savior who bore the full

weight of our sins.

In the original language this

phrase is similar to the accounting

term "paid in full." How fitting. It

was our debt that was paid, not

Christ's.

On the day we call "Good Friday,"

we celebrate a gruesome act of

suffering and the most sacred act

of love in all of history.

As we face the challenges of each

new day, may our thoughts, words

and heart focus on those final

words Christ spoke from the cross.

"It is finished!"

Saint Patrick

Saint Patrick (Latin: Patricius; Irish: Pádraig [ˈpˠaːd̪ˠɾˠəɟ]; Welsh: Padrig) was a fifth-century Romano-British Christian missionary and bishop in Ireland. Known as the "Apostle of Ireland", he is the primary patron saint of Ireland, the other patron saints being Brigit of Kildare and Columba. He is venerated in the Roman Catholic Church, the Anglican Communion, the Lutheran Churches, the Old Catholic Church, and in the Eastern Orthodox Church as equal-to-the-apostles and Enlightener of Ireland.[2]

The dates of Patrick's life cannot be fixed with certainty, but there is broad agreement that he was active as a missionary in Ireland during the second half of the 5th century. Early medieval tradition

credits him with being the

first bishop of Armagh and Primate of Ireland, and they regard him as the founder of Christianity in Ireland, converting a society practicing a form of Celtic polytheism. He has been generally so regarded ever since, despite evidence of some earlier Christian presence in Ireland.

According to the Confessio of Patrick, when he was about 16, he was captured by Irish pirates from his home in Britain and taken as a slave to Ireland, looking after animals; he lived there for six years before escaping and returning to his family. After becoming a cleric, he returned to northern and western Ireland. In later life, he served as a bishop, he returned to northern and western Ireland. In later life, he served as a bishop, but little is known about the places where he worked. By the seventh century, he had already come to be revered as the patron saint of Ireland.

Saint Patrick's Day is observed on 17 March, the supposed date of his death. It is celebrated inside and outside Ireland as a religious and cultural holiday. In the dioceses of Ireland, it is both a solemnity and a holy day of obligation; it is also a celebration of Ireland itself.
