DISCUSSION

4.2. Learning Resources

According to the survey, 55% of the students involve in the survey agree that the library should extend its

opening hours. This shows that the current opening hours are limited for the students to do their work in

the library and this may be due to insufficient staff to work. In comparison with the University of

Birmingham, their library is open 24 hours during examination season (University of Birmingham

Intranet, 2015). By extending the opening hours of the library, the student can have the freedom to study

in the library. Sophie (2012) mentioned that studying at the library is more efficient than at home because

there are fewer distraction when studying in the library compared to when studying at home. Hence the

student can focus more on their work and enhance their intellectual development.

89.4 per cent of the students agree that the university should provide an open area in the library for the

students to eat or drink.

Another factor that could hinder the development of the students’ intellectual is the limited number of

library offered by the university. Currently UBD owns one main library. Through the survey, 80.8 per

cent of the students agree that the university should have mini multiple libraries for each department or

faculty.
