Raman Spectroscopy for Identification of Unknown Substances Raman spectroscopy is a well-established forensic laboratory technique. Raman spectroscopy

provides a molecular fingerprint that can be used for chemical identification, making it well-

suited for use by military forces, hazardous material teams, customs and border patrol agents

and other first responders as a rapid material screening tool. Handheld Raman spectroscopy

has been used for field identification of hazardous chemicals, precursors and common

chemicals for over 10 years. Initially the

technology evolved from laboratories to

the handheld market for Department of

Defense applications such as Explosive

Ordnance Disposal (EOD), Chemical,

Biological, Radiological and Nuclear

(CBRN) applications and various Special

Forces teams. Raman spectroscopy

continues to grow as a preferred

technology for fast, simple identification

of unknowns in hot zones, in theater and

in civilian environments.

First Responder Safety Advantages of Handheld RamanModern handheld Raman spectroscopy tools provide non-destructive,

non-contact sampling for nearly all samples, extremely low false

positive/negative rates, identification directly through clear or opaque

packing materials, multiple sampling accessories for

optimizing sample testing, and virtually no consumables

or calibration. Additionally, Raman tools are able to

maximize user safety by offering a laser scan delay

mode, laser intensity settings, and remote operation.

These safety features work to minimize the exposure

and ignition risk of hazardous samples.

TacticID®-GP for Identification of Unknown and Hazardous Chemicals and Much More The TacticID–GP is a field-ready handheld spectral

analysis instrument designed for non-contact

forensic analysis by safety personnel and first

responders, including law enforcement personnel,

bomb squad, customs and border patrol, hazmat

technicians, and more. The TacticID-GP utilizes

proven Raman spectroscopy, allowing users to get

real-time actionable identification of unknown

chemicals, hazardous materials, narcotics,

pharmaceutical drugs and many other substances

while reducing operational uncertainty and

response time. Raman provides reliable results

non-destructively by direct measurement of

samples with no need for sample preparation.

The TacticID–GP contains over 10,000 on-

board library items such as explosives*, narcotics,

common and toxic chemicals, precursors, cutting

agents and much more. The TacticID-GP also

provides users the ability to create and add their own custom libraries. This feature is highly

valuable to state labs, customs departments and other users who want to add region-specific

threats to their libraries quickly and efficiently.

*Note: This item may be subject to export control to some territories.
