1 Toro Energy

Uranium mining project proposal located south of Wiluna. The original Toro Energy Wiluna Uranium Mining project (Lake Way and Centipede) received WA State environmental approval October 2012 and Commonwealth approval on the 2 April 2013. On 20 November 2013, Toro Energy acquired the Lake Maitland resource from Mega Uranium. There are now four deposits within the Wiluna Project regional resource that make up the current economic mine plan: Lake Way, Millipede, Centipede and Lake Maitland. Toro Energy Limited proposes an extension to the Wiluna Uranium Project, which involves the mining of uranium at two locations south of the town of Wiluna. The locations are known as Millipede and Lake Maitland. On 7 April 2014, the EPA Chairman determined the Expansion Project will undergo a Public Environmental Review (PER). The PER was released for public review in November 2015 and closed 8 February 2016. Public release of the EPA Report and Recommendations is expected in late August – early September 2016. A decision by government is expected by end 2016.

Mulga Rock Uranium Project

Uranium mining project proposal located in the Shire of Menzies 240 km east-northeast of Kalgoorlie. The proposal includes the development of a processing plant, waste rock dumps, tailings storage facilities, roads, accommodation and an airstrip. Mining is proposed to take place through open pit methods in four separate deposits – Princess, Ambassador, Emperor and Shogun. The ore would be processed onsite over a period of approximately 16 years. Uranium oxide concentrate would be shipped through Port Adelaide.

The proposal was referred to the WA EPA August 2013 and under the EPBC Act 28 November 2013 and a Public Environmental Review (PER) level of assessment determined.

The Mulga Rock PER was released for public review on the 14 December 2015 with the comment period closing 8 March 2016. Public release of the EPA Report and recommendations is expected during August 2016. A decision by government is expected by end 2016.

3. Cauldron Energy Limited

Pre-submission stage. The Bennet Well Uranium Project is located 85 km south of Onslow. Exploration results have identified a palaeochannel uranium deposit that may be suitable for in situ recovery (ISR) mining. Additional exploration activity and hydrological test work is planned to support a planned pre-feasibility study (PFS) during 2016-17.

4. Gold Road Resources Gruyere Gold Project

Ian Mitchell Mike Wilde Gold Road Resources is an emerging gold producer in the Yamarna Greenstone Belt; a newly discovered (August 2014) gold region located 150 km east of Laverton. The Gruyere deposit has a JORC Mineral Resource of 3.8 million ounces of gold. A pre-feasibility update, including metallurgical, geotechnical, environmental and mining studies, is in progress.

The proposal was referred to the EPA 2 March 2016. The level of assessment was set on 15 June 2016 as Assessment on Proponent Information (API). This level of assessment indicates that the proposal is not complex and the proponent has provided sufficient information on the environmental impacts at the referral stage.

5. Sheffield Resources Thunderbird Project

Sheffield Resources is preparing to develop a globally significant high grade mineral sands deposit located on the Dampier Peninsula mid-way between Broome and Derby. It is estimated to have a mine life of 47 years. A definitive feasibility study (DFS) is in progress. The project proposal was referred to the WA EPA in November 2015 and assessed as a Public Environmental Review (PER) with a four-week public review period. The project was designated a controlled action under the EPBC Act (7 April 2016). Sheffield Resources provided a project briefing on 6 April 2016 for key State agencies. A Bankable Feasibility Study (BFS) is in progress and Sheffield is actively engaging with stakeholders during 2016-17. A multi-agency site visit is planned for August-September 2016.

1. “South West Hub” CCS Project

Level 2

Dominique Van Gent Martin Burke A Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Project wherein the Department of Mines and Petroleum is responsible for investigating the potential to store CO2 in the Lesueur Sandstone Formation of the Southern Perth Basin (on the Swan Coastal Plain in the Shires of Harvey and Waroona). The project has been allocated funding under the Australian Government’s CCS Flagships program to progress investigations of the suitability of the Lesueur. Activity has included a 2D seismic (2011) a stratigraphic well (February-March 2012), a complex 3D seismic that mapped 2115 square kilometres (2014) and a further three wells in early to mid-2015. The results to date demonstrate a large injection target formation of sandstone at a depth of 1500 metres to 3000 metres and a shale/palaeosol complex that could act as a further containment layer. Analysis and modelling of the more than two kilometres of core and electronic data is currently underway. A community consultative committee was established in August 2011. 2. Thevenard Island Decommissioning

Chevron is responsible for the decommissioning of all offshore and onshore production; processing and export facilities on Thevenard Island (TVI) located 25 kilometres offshore from the town of Onslow, Western Australia. Following an application from Chevron Australia Pty Ltd, DMP provided consent on 22 January 2014 to the licensees to cease to operate the four licenced pipelines. Petroleum recovery operations ceased in April 2014 and all facilities are being cleaned of petroleum residue. Offshore facilities decommissioning is scheduled over 2017-18. Onshore remediation and rehabilitation is scheduled for 2018-20 in accordance with the preliminary TVI Field Decommissioning and Rehabilitation Plan.

Yeelirrie Uranium Cameco

Uranium (Yeelirrie) Agreement Act 1978

Uranium mining project – On 19 December 2012 Cameco acquired the Yeelirrie Uranium Project from BHPB. Discovered in the early 1970s, it is the largest known uranium deposit in WA. Referred to the EPA by Western Mining Corporation in 1978 and subsequently BHPB in 2009, this project proposal was re-evaluated by the EPA and set a Public Environmental Review (PER) assessment level on 15 December 2014. In February 2015, DMP, in consultation with DSD, provided advice to the EPA regarding the Environmental Scoping Document. In accordance with the State Agreement Cameco has until 30 June 2018 to submit mining proposals. A multi-agency site visit was conducted on the 16 November 2015.

The PER public Review period closed on 14 December 2015. Public release of the EPA Report and Recommendations is expected during August 2016. A decision by government is expected by the end of 2016.
