The Hands: Methods and Behaviors of a

Leader

Page 2: Lead Like Jesus Session Four Debbie Ormonde, M.A The Hands: Methods and Behaviors of a Leader

I have testimony weightier than that of John. For the very work that the Father has given me to finish, and which I am doing, testifies that the Father has sent me.

John 5:36

The man who plants and the man who waters have one purpose, and each will be rewarded according to his own labor.

1 Corinthians 3:8

What ever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

Colossians 3:23-24

Since you call on a Father who judges each man’s work impartially, live your lives as strangers here in reverent fear.

Page 16: Lead Like Jesus Session Four Debbie Ormonde, M.A The Hands: Methods and Behaviors of a Leader

The Way of the NOVICE:

As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he had two brothers; Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fisherman. “Come, follow me.” Jesus said, and I will make you fishers of men. “At once they left their nets and followed him. Going on from there, he saw two brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.

Matthew 4:18-22

Instructions for a NOVICE

These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: “Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of Samaritans. Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel. As you go, preach the message: The kingdom of heaven is near. Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely you give. Do not take any gold or silver or copper in your belts; take no bag for journey, or extra tunic, or sandals or a staff; for the worker is worth his keep.”

Matthew 10:5-10

Page 19: Lead Like Jesus Session Four Debbie Ormonde, M.A The Hands: Methods and Behaviors of a Leader

The Way of the Apprentice:

“Lord, have mercy on your son.” He said. “He has seizures and is suffering greatly. He often falls into the fire or into the water. I brought him to your disciples, but they could not heal him. “O unbelieving and perverse generation,” Jesus replied, how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy here to me. “Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed from that moment.

Matthew 17:15-18

Coaching for an APPRENTICE“…Bring the boy here to me,” Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed from that moment. Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?” He relied “Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, “Move from here to there” and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.

Matthew 17:17-20

The Way of a JOURNEYMANDuring the fourth watch of the night Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost” they said, and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” “Lord, if it’s you, “Peter replied. “tell me to come to you on the water. “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came to Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”

The Way of the MASTER/TEACHER“Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.” When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Commissioning of a MASTER/TEACHER

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
