Lead Programme CO2 from steelworks to Paint
Tata Steel UK Port Talbot produce coated steel, and emit 7 million tonnes CO2 per annum.
These monomers are raw materials used to produce resins, which make up to 50% of a coating’s composition
We are developing our process to produce C4 monomers- 1,4-BDO and succinate- from CO2 using reclaimed energy.
Project Partners CO2 from steelworks to Paint
Daniel Read Founder & CEO Process development and optimisation, bioreactor engineering, scale-up & tech transfer.
Dr. Samantha Bryan Assistant Professor in White Biotechnology Metabolic engineering of cyanobacteria chassis organisms.
Dr. Chris Williams Manager of Energy & CO2 Research
Process development, optimisation, engineering & scale-up
Commercial Roadmap CO2 from steelworks to Paint
Current project aims to deliver lab scale demo, putative strains, TEA & deployment plans (-> Feb 2020)
Follow on project to further develop/optimise, scale-up and integrate with wider programmes in S. Wales.
Engagement with interested parties- LoI from major paint producer, exploring engagement with chemicals.
Our Opportunity
Accelerate the CO2-to-paint programme towards commercialisation- matching soft financing.
Other pipeline projects, e.g. EFW to bioplastics, biotherapeutics using cyanobacteria platform etc.
Taking existing products to market- a sustainable business model to support long-term programmes.
Thank You!
