Executive Summary
Introduction
The LEAD program, as part of the Leadership for Education and Development Program and Middle East
Partnership Initiative Tomorrow's Leaders at the American University in Cairo (AUC), conducted a survey
with LEAD students’ to obtain feedback about LEAD coordinators as well as the program’s mission and

online survey. The LEAD office intends to use the survey findings to improve their program.
In December 13, 2012 the Office of Institutional Research, emailed survey invitations to 219 LEAD
students. Two survey email reminders were sent on December 27th, 2012 and January 2nd, 2013 and the
survey remained accessible January 17th, 2013. When the survey was closed, 77 students were
completed the survey (35.2%).

Q.3B:
Negative comments:
1. I do not find any difference.
2. She does not even try to treat students equally. Students whom she likes are treated well enough and others are being embarrassed, rejected, and so on.
3. She tries to treat us equally, especially when our last feedback said that she is unfair although I
feel that nothing changed. She tries but it is not working.
Positive comments:
1. She is very helpful and i feel relaxed when i talk to her about any problem i face.
2. My coordinator, Miss Nahed Barsoum always treats all the cohort members equally and uses
the rules with everyone without favoritism.
3. She gives equal chances for both genders.
4. My coordinator tries to treat all students with equality; however, it's sometimes out of her
hands that someone feels unequal to the others because of the vague terms and conditions in
LEAD regulations. I've always had this comment since I joined LEAD program; there isn't specific
criteria for many thing such as, who goes to USAID meetings and selection process for semester
abroad and the division of slots. My coordinator makes sessions to explain what happened and
how the selection process takes place and that's what I mean by "try" but many of us including
my still don't understand how decisions are made.
5. I think yes, she tries to be fair as hard as possible and she doesn't prefer anyone on the others
6. She does not treat us differently based on our background, gender, personal relations or
anything else. She makes sure she is giving equal opportunities to each one of the cohort so
that they would get the maximum experience and learning skills.
7. She is fair
General comments:
1. Individual meeting are available for everyone. - She always make sure that none of us knows
the grade of LPI before the others. - During individual meetings, she makes sure that she gave
each one of us the exact time.
2. Some student's got to do the learning assessment about the Community Psychology training on
the spot just after the training and others had no time to do it so she asked all to do it again
home where all have the time to check their answers.

Q. 6: Please suggest any areas for improvement:
1. She doesn't know a lot about AUC system 2. I think the coordinator should encourage the cohort student to work together more and more, i
think we lost our team spirit 3. Civic engagement 4. I think you should either have another coordinator to watch her and balance her extremes or
changing her from the first place. 5. Get better more qualified coordinators. This is shameful really. 6. She needs to be a little more lenient with deadlines and accept valid excuses. 7. we can improve the area of our assessment specially the portfolios 8. Extremely clear detailed rules and regulations in LEAD handbook. 9. leadership trainings by professionals How to make a campaign training public speaking training
Fundraising training How to set a budget training 10. A long time plan would be beneficial. i think that the office doesn't have a plan for our progress
and growth in leadership skills. 11. The coordinator should discuss with us our opinions about the trainings, sessions, and retreats
before having them because we found that some of the sessions we took were not beneficial at all.
Q.7: Other comments:
Negative Comments:
This survey is weak, and I don't think results will be helpful. For example our coordinator is still
new so most questions doesn't apply to her it is either we didn't experience that certain
experience with her or we did but not to the extent to evaluate her.
Positive Comments:
Thank you for the survey. This kind of surveys helps in opening communication channels. Also, I
would like to thank you for taking our comments into consideration concerning Thematic
Activities. I have enjoyed all the activities this semester, learned a lot and met new friends from
other Cohorts.
General comments:
I believe that my coordinator is an excellent one on the professional and personal level. She is a
great support for sustainable development and for improvement. She also asks for continuous
feedback and she engages us in the decision making and in the choosing for the different
activities and decisions.
