A good word is a good tree, whose root is firmly fixed, And its branches reach to the sky (Quran 14:24)
Who is a leader?
What are Titles?
• Head of Department, Head of Unit, Coordinator, Manager, Supervisor, they are all titles bestowed on those who are called by an organization to lead. They have the official duties and responsibilities that go with the title.
• John Maxwell says leadership is influence. If that is true, are the people with the titles the only ones called to lead?
• The title gives them some positional authority, but leaders are needed at every level of an organization.
Everyone is a Leader
“Behold! Everyone of you is a leader and you shall be asked about those you lead.
The imam is a leader over the people and shall be asked about them;
A man is a leader of the house and shall be asked about his household;
A woman is a leader over her children and shall be asked about them.”
(Hadith narrated by ‘Abdullah Ibn ‘Umar as recorded by Bukhari & Muslim)
The tortoise and the rabbit

You need no title to be a leader
“If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets as Michelangelo painted or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say. ‘Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well’.”
Martin Luther King, Jr
Awaken the leader within
• List at least one incident at home, in your community or workplace where you have shown your leadership skills to make a change.
• Analyze and evaluate where you have excelled and where you need more focus to improve.
You need no title to be a leader
But you need to have these THREE things:
1. Competency
2. Character
3. Passion
It’s up to you. Mastery or mediocrity? Excellence or insignificance? It’s up to you.
1. Competency/ Mastery
A Formula For Success:
• A vision that moves you
+ Constant innovation
+ Daily action
Focus + practice
Best way to improve the world
Is to improve yourself
2. Be a person of good character
• Define your success not by the things you have but by the value you create.
• Know yourself – be humble
• Attitude Attracts Attitude
3. Leadership is no longer about position – but passion.
• Genius is not the result of innate ability but deliberate practice and the relentless pursuit of Mastery.
• Hard to stay focus if you have no passion for it
• Passion is the secret sauce that makes the impossible probable
Finding your passion
• What would you do today if you had a deep knowing that it was impossible to fail?
• What motivates you?
Other thoughts on leadership

Other thoughts on leadership
• The deeper your relationships, the stronger your leadership
• You get the best out of others when you give the best of yourself
• Help others to win – you will win as a by-product
Other thoughts on leadership
• To be a great leader, first become a great person!

• Be inspired, and inspire others
• Time for family and friends
• Enjoy life
Leadership is about seeing the best in people who’ve never seen the best in themselves. You don’t need to have a title to be able to do this.
4 Ways To Lead Without The Title - Words, Deeds, Attitudes, Mentoring-
1. Lead Through Words
If you don’t say it, who will? Too many people wait for someone else to say what needs to be said at critical moments. Leaders speak out no matter what title they hold.
2. Lead Through Deeds
Leaders do more then speak out, they step out. They move things forward through their actions. People follow people who are unafraid to do the right thing or the hard thing. Initiative is a trait leaders have. Take the initiative and others will follow your example.
4 Ways To Lead Without The Title - Words, Deeds, Attitudes, Mentoring-
3. Lead Through Attitude
“Attitudes are contagious. Is yours worth catching?” Leaders don’t drag others into a pit of whining and despair. At any level, someone has the opportunity to pull others out of that pit. Why not you?
4. Lead Through Mentoring
If someone is willing to put out a hand and help others, it will be noticed. If you see someone struggling – help them. It may be in your supervisor’s job description, but it is your opportunity to influence others.
"And (remember) when your Lord said to the angels: "Verily, I am going to place (of mankind) a khaleefah (caliph) on earth." They said: "Will You place therein those who will make mischief therein and shed blood, - while we glorify You with praises and thanks (Exalted be You above all that they associate with You as partners) and sanctify You." He (Allâh) said: "I know that which you do not know." (Quran, 2:30)
Lead, without a title
• As you reflect back over your life, ask this powerful question:
• Could I have done more?
• If yes, do more now
• Leadership is not position, leadership is influence
