AFTER THE ACTIVITY: Tape the top of the craft stick to the back of the bottom of theplate to look like a tree trunk. Retell the Bible story.

WHAT YOU SAY:

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY: “Zacchaeus climbed a tree to see Jesus.”

DURING THE ACTIVITY: “We are going to make the tree that Zacchaeus climbed. First,we need to add leaves to our tree. (Demonstrate and assist as needed.) Perfect! Now glueZacchaeus in the top of the tree. Great job! Now our tree needs a trunk.” (Finish activity.)

AFTER THE ACTIVITY: “Zacchaeus made bad choices and took coins that did not belongto him. He did not have many friends. He knew Jesus was coming and wanted to see Him.Zacchaeus was a very short man and could not see over all the people. So, he climbed atree. The people did not think that Jesus would want to be Zacchaeus’ friend because hehad made bad choices, but [Bottom Line] Jesus loves everyone no matter what! Jesuswent to Zacchaeus’ house. He wants to be everyone’s friend! Who does Jesus love?[Bottom Line] Jesus loves everyone!”

TRACK BUILDERS

WHAT YOU NEED: Craft sticks or straws (about 20)

WHAT YOU SAY:

DURING THE ACTIVITY: “Let’s sit down here and see if we can build a train track withthese craft sticks or straws.” (Spend a few minutes “building” but become frustratedwhen you accidentally knock the tracks out of place or when you can‘t quite lay them the way you want to.) “Oh, no! Look how I’ve messed this track all up. Will you help me?Let‘s try again. (Begin to build, and then mess it up again.) Oh, no! I’ve messed it upagain! Let‘s keep trying.”

AFTER THE ACTIVITY: “Sometimes we mess up, just like I kept messing up while buildingthese train tracks. Tell me, does Jesus still love me when I mess up? Absolutely! DoesJesus still love you when you mess up? Of course! Jesus loves us even when we mess up.How do I know that? Because [Bottom Line] Jesus loves everyone!”
