LEADERSNEWS Who would have thought from this time last term we would have managed a full term of learning, in most cases at school with teachers, support staff and friends? A credit to everyone that students have had minimal disruptions to their learning, and Reports being sent home next Friday should give you a deeper understanding of where your child’s strength and growth areas are. Those of you who spent time teaching and learning with your children at home will have a renewed understanding of the rigour and expectations of students in 2020. It is good news that schools will once again be back to normal in most instances next term, however with social distancing and minimum space required, we will continue to request that only students and school based adults enter classrooms; students have become such great self managers it will be disappointing to undo the great work so far, and consistent rules and routines mean all classes have the same expectations. This will also apply to Assemblies, as we can have our 500 plus students and teachers in the Hall together but won’t be able to include family members at this stage due to the minimum space required per adult. We look forward to our regular volunteers returning for class, Library and Canteen support. Students are excited that camps will happen later term 3 for our Year 4/5, 5 and 6 classes, and teachers can plan excursions and hopefully swimming lessons will occur for Reception to Year 5 students (booked for first week of September). Photo day is scheduled for Monday, 7 th September. Our front garden is almost complete, and our Landscapers will return next term to complete the paving adjacent to OSHC. We look forward to our wall mural on the northern end of the main building completing the beautification of the Maria Street entrance to our school. A reminder that Vacation Care is available in the holidays. The first week is still covered by the Government Rebate scheme. If your child arrives at school before 8:20 am, or is still here unsupervised after 3:20 we are obliged to send them to OSHC, as our yard is unsupervised and we have a duty of care. Please find time to read the comprehensive staff report included, which was compiled by Rachel Bell, our Year 3 teacher, and Governing Council representative, which highlights the many classroom happenings in our school this term. I am proud of our accomplishments in what has been a stressful term for all. I hope you get to enjoy some real holiday time with family, if possible. LEADERS’ NEWS

Who would have thought from this time last term we would have managed a full term of learning, in most cases at school with teachers, support staff and friends? A credit to

everyone that students have had minimal disruptions to their learning, and Reports being sent home next Friday should give you a deeper understanding of where your child’s strength and growth areas are. Those of you who spent time teaching and learning with your children at home will have a renewed understanding of the rigour and expectations of students in 2020. ATHON DAY

On the afternoon of Wednesday 1st July we will have our annual ‘Athon’. Skipping has been a PE focus in our year 3-7 classes and Junior Primary students have all been working on developing their Fundamental Movement skills. Usually this event is a fundraiser where students collect sponsorship but it has been decided that this year we will offer families an option of either donating towards purchasing new sports equipment for the classrooms or bringing a non-perishable item which will be donated to the charity Foodbank. These donations can be brought to school on the day and will be collected from each classroom. If you would like to donate money feel free to use Qkr! (details below) The day will run over 3 lessons with all classes completing a circuit of activities. R-2 classes will participate before lunch and the 3-7’s after lunch. Unfortunately we are unable to have any family members spectating on the day.

WALKING SCHOOL BUS

Walking School Buses are back on the footpaths, hoping with the wet weather, buses still get a chance to walk on the fine days. Congratulations to Phoebe and Lizzie who have walked to school 10 walks. They will receive a voucher which entitles them to a free ice block from the office any lunch time. If anyone would like to join any of our Walking School Bus routes, students or adults, please pop in to the front office and we can let you know what you need to do. Thank you, have fun walking to school!

SCHOOL UNIFORM SHOP School Uniform shop is open Tuesday and Friday mornings. Parents are welcome to pop in on these mornings to purchase their child’s uniforms needs. Please enter via the uniform shop door. Other days of the week uniform can be purchased from the front office or even a better idea… use the QKR app. QKR is a great way to order and pay for uniform and this will be delivered straight to your child to bring home.

LOST PROPERTY – Please remember to name your child’s uniform. There are lots and lots of good quality unclaimed items in our lost property cupboard. Please feel welcome to pop

in and check the lost property cupboard. Thank you

SCHOOL BANKING IS BACK! School Banking at our school will recommence from Term 3, Week 1 and will be on Thursday.

For every deposit made at school, students will receive a silver Dollarmites token. Once students have individually collected 10 tokens they can redeem them for an exclusive School Banking reward item in recognition of their regular savings habits. School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school. Our school receives a Regular Savers Contribution of $5 for every 10 deposits processed per student as well as an Annual Contribution which is based on the number of students who made at least one School Banking deposit in the prior year. If your child has lost their book, please contact your School Banking Co-ordinator for a replacement or visit any Commbank Branch. If you would like to know more about School Banking, please ask for a 2020 School

Banking program information pack from the school office or visit www.commbank.com.au/schoolbanking

ROOM 2 GOLD RUSH!

This term, we have been looking into the Gold

Rush and the impact it had on Australia as a

nation.

Students presented their learning in a variety of

ways. We even got the chance to dig for own

gold (chocolate chips), with mining tools

(toothpicks) and see who mined the most gold

from their chocolate chip cookie.

THERMOMETERS BEING USED AT SCHOOL

We have been informed that schools and pre-schools will receive an infra-red thermometer for their First Aid kits. The infra-red thermometer is provided to be used as part of our normal assessment when a child feels unwell by the school’s designated first aiders. Parent or guardian consent is not needed to take a child or young person’s temperature using a non-contact thermometer where they appear unwell. If the temperature is less than 37.2°C and the child or young person appears well they can return to class. If the temperature is 37.2°C or more and less than 38°C and the child or young person appears well we will:-

check that the child has been resting for at least 20 minutes after running around or doing exercise

ask them to remain in the sick room and retake their temperature in 10 minutes’ time, if their temperature is o lower after 10 minutes they can return to class o if their temperature is higher after 10 minutes their parent/carer will be contacted and asked to collect

them immediately

If the child’s temperature is 38°C or more, parents/carers will be contacted to collect their child immediately

If the parent/carer is unable to collect the child immediately, we will call 000 (ambulance) The child will be isolated to reduce contact with staff and children. The parent/caregiver will be encouraged to take their child for assessment by a medical professional and the child must not return to school until they are well.
