RE AL LIFE SIMUL ATION
The centrepiece of real life simulation is the simulator
hall. A real life working environment is created where
you are 100% immersed in seconds. A 15 meter
parabolic screen is part of that, together with offices,
people, sounds, tablets and hand sets creating going
on activities.
THE ULTIMATE TOOL FOR TOP LEADERS
It took us 20 years to develop, test and validate our
Centres and are now ready for Top Leaders for quick
and effective use with impressive results. Leadership
by Doing is focussing on experienced leaders with
developed leadership skills and knowledge. You know
that one of the key factors for your success are your
soft skills like communication, social skills and habits.
That is exactly where our Real Life Simulation Centres
are focused on. A wealth of experience in soft skill
development is available for you now.
In our Real Life Simulation Centres you can work
on 21 different leadership issues like negotiations,
engage/disengage, teamwork, but also vision, culture
and strategy. And not by talking about it but really
Feed-back will focus on your communication styles,
leadership talents and habits. The simulator has
proven to have a great impact on you due to the real
but safe environment. Your leadership is your unique
personal way and you are the only one that decide
how to develop it. Leadership by Doing will support
you with very effective tools: self scoring, reflection,
personal tests, try-out simulation sessions and
intensive board-room sessions.
MAKING THE DIFFERENCE
Real Life Simulation is based on experiential learning.
Learning leadership skills based only on reading
books and attending lectures will not be successful.
Leadership by Doing adopted the concept of
experiential learning. You develop your knowledge
and skills with high speed by actively processing new
information and by undertaking actions.
The look and feel are real life for professionals
trained in the simulator. Sessions are built up around
scenarios specific created for a wide variety of your
personal development needs. Many of the more than
350 available scenarios are bespoke developed for the
client.
You will be immersed in a high fidelity simulation
environment, experiencing all characteristics,
complexities, interactions, communication and
emotions. You are fully responsible for fulfilling the
role of leader.
“The strongest point is that you are
confronted with yourself, your way
of dealing. Because it was your own
experience it really change your mind” Jan John Unsworth
Project Leader of HBG Civiel
Scenarios can be briefed or non-briefed with
professional actors interfering. The scenarios
are controlled from the control room where the
outcomes are measured by observers. Your results
are discussed in feed-back sessions. The actors and
observers are highly experienced in using scoring and
observation systems, based on world wide recognised
leadership models.

Scenarios illustrate key leadership skills providing
a balance between learning common situations
and practicing rare events. This creates an unique
opportunity for a deep and critical reflection,
stimulating transformational learning and innovative
actions. This reflection process is essential for new
learning.
After Real Life Simulation sessions you are invited to
describe, analyse and summarise your own thinking
processes and behaviour. It will uncover mental
frameworks and thought structures that guides your
actions. The observers and actors are specifically
trained to guide and facilitate you, grounded on
a clear vision on learning and development of
leadership.

in 2012 just at the corner of the CBD of Melbourne.
Since the start more than 35,000 trainees have used
the simulators with a very high level of satisfaction.
In these 14 years the simulation model has changed
from focussing on managing processes to leadership
as the core business. In the start scenarios were
designed around process control factors. Nowadays
discovering and developing soft leadership skills is
where the simulator excels in.
The three centres are all created for the construction
industry but the more recently developed scenarios
are not specific construction anymore at all. The
wealth of experience could easily be used for
other professions. That’s why we offering you the
Leadership by Doing model.
TESTED WORLDWIDE
The top 20 contractors in the Netherlands contracted
SPM to realise in 2000 the world’s first Real Life
Simulation Centre for the construction industry. It is
housed in the iconic Crystalic building in Leeuwarden,
the Netherlands. After the successful start the
Charted Institute of Building CIOB promoted a similar
facility for the British market which opened its doors
in 2010. A purpose designed building is housing the
Centre as part of the Innovation Village at Coventry,
