WHAT WILL HAPPEN ON January 5, 2013?SATURDAY: January 5, 20128:30am to 12:30pmLocation(s): Rutgers University or Local School? Tutors and Students AttendCity Champion Invited to Attend Parents Invited to Attend “HOW DO I LEARN? WHY AM I DISCONNECTED?”Students will meet with their tutors to engage in an interactive presentation by NTA Trainers on the subject “How Do I Learn?” This unique and insightful discussion will assist students and their tutors understand why the student may be disconnected from particular academic material or from a certain academic environment. This first discussion is crucial in the first assessment by the tutors as to what may be the academic stressor and/or strength and challenges for this student. The NTA will provide an evaluation form that the student and tutor will complete in tandem to meet this assessment goal after the presentation.

January 5, 2013TUTORING WEEKEND KICK-OFF
The following program components will apply to each city listed in the LEAD overall program proposal. PARENT ORIENTATION This 30-45 orientation to the tutoring component of the program will be lead by either the City Champion or a Mentor assigned to each high school. No tutors will be in attendance as they will not yet be trained. Parents will be invited to attend the Saturday morning “How Do I Learn” session with their students where the tutors will be in session as well as a national representative from the NTA. Parents will be free to answer questions and interact with tutors and NTA representatives during and after this session.

What It Is NOT:IBL is not a program; so much as it is an "incubator" of ideas,
emerging partnerships, and pilot projects/programs addressing traditional challenges in unique and creative ways.
IBL is not a "mini LEAD"; rather an environment where new programs or initiatives are piloted to ensure their effectiveness and where new partnerships are allowed to grow and mature.
