...an opportunity for you

Leading safely creates an opening for you

to deepen your commercial relationship

with influential business leaders. It’s the

one safety and health training course

that senior leaders should take. Designed

by IOSH in partnership with business

leaders, it provides practical solutions in

harnessing safety and health as a powerful

investment to unlock competitive

advantage.

High value for youOur conversations with business leaders have shown that when they see the business benefits of better safety and health, they find the money to send their staff on IOSH training courses. Leading safely calls on participants to make a personal commitment to changing safety and health behaviours and practices in their businesses. This presents a huge potential for you to cross-sell other courses.

Leading safely’s unique pre-course diagnostic tool gives you insights into delegates’ safety and health training needs, so that you can tailor the training precisely to their requirements. Built-in flexibility gives you freedom to deliver face-to-face or in a blended learning format.

As always, the IOSH kitemark guarantees Leading safely’s quality, backed by our years of market-leading expertise. Because your participants can be confident of finding practical solutions, you can be assured of a high rate of converting enquiries to orders.

High value for delegatesWe’ve designed Leading safely by consulting with leaders from organisations such as Nestlé, 2 Sisters Food Group, North Lincolnshire Council and Arco, so the content is relevant, practical and to-the-point. Leaders will learn how safety and health can have a positive impact on business, and how a good safety and health culture begins at the top.

Leading safely’s diagnostic assessment tool identifies the issues that are genuinely relevant to delegates. This maximises training input in a short time-span, ensuring that the learning is both efficient and effective – a major selling-point for busy people.

Through lively discussion and debate on case studies, leaders deepen their understanding of the true value of safety and health for their organisations.

Successful delegates are awarded an IOSH Leading safely certificate. They leave the course by making a commitment to take action, with a plan to put into practice what they have learned. Once the course has finished, they can receive continued access to the IOSH for Leaders app, giving them access to relevant news, guidance and IOSH social media. They can get extra value if you offer follow-up meetings.

Proven popularityWe’ve piloted Leading safely with several large organisations. The feedback we’ve received demonstrates the need for a course like this – for business leaders and for you.

Leading safely overview

Target audience Leading safely is aimed at anyone with leadership responsibilities – CEOs, MDs, senior managers, directors and executives in a wide range of companies, large or small, in any sector. It will convince leaders that effective safety and health management will create real and lasting business benefits.

ContentYou can deliver Leading safely in two formats: face-to-face (five hours) or blended learning (one hour e-learning followed by three hours in the classroom). The course covers:- safety and health and what it means for different

leadership roles - the responsibilities and behaviours of a leader- what effective health and safety leadership looks like - what happens when things go wrong- how leaders can make improvements- the benefits of effective safety leadership.

Delivering Leading safelyApproved training organisations must have an IOSH member with line management responsibility. Your ‘nominated IOSH member’ must be a Chartered member, and any trainer at least a Graduate member of IOSH. Trainers must be able to provide evidence of their experience, knowledge and skills of working with, and training, a senior audience. They must have significant business leadership experience or a business qualification at level 5 or equivalent. Any information they provide to support their application will be verified – so by providing this information, trainers consent to us contacting third parties.

AssessmentLearners use the diagnostic tool, accessed via a mobile app, to identify their current safety and health position against a set of critical questions. The tool recommends the actions they should take. At the end of the course, delegates make a commitment to a personal action plan to improve their own and their organisations’ safety and health management. As an IOSH-accredited trainer, you will receive- log-in details to a learning management system and

a mobile app, so you can access the course materials (the e-learning module, a set of PowerPoint slides, the diagnostic tool/action planner and Trainer’s guide)

- a reporting tool to generate reports showing delegates’ responses to the diagnostic questionnaire and the commitments they’ve made

- a beautifully-produced pack containing the Trainer’s guide.

Delegates receive- an app (via an app store – iOS from Apple or Android

from Google Play) to access their diagnostic tool/action planner

- access to a safety leadership community, with targeted news items and notifications from IOSH and up-to-date discussions on themes in safety leadership, fed in by trainers and course delegates

- useful links about safety leadership (from the Health and Safety Executive and Institute of Directors).
