Becky Halstead, the first female Commanding General in U.S. military history to lead at the strategic level in combat, translates her years of leadership experience -- in business and on-and-off the battlefield -- into lessons about what it takes to lead change. Participants will learn how to take a leading role in strengthening the energy market for a sustainable future in what has become a volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA) environment. Effective energy leaders must be open and willing to embrace change in order to drive it, develop consensus among disparate groups and build bridges across every sector. Becky will help participants learn how to take charge of VUCA situations during the energy industries’ transition to a more sustainable model. With this change, solar emerges as a viable, renewable energy source that complements natural gas and other energy sources, and is becoming an attractive option for investors. Just as portfolio diversification is critical for risk-averse investors, diversification is essential for the nation’s energy mix. This holds true for industry and corporate teams: a diverse team, offering varied ideas that can be shaped toward one goal, is a stronger and more effective force for successfully navigating VUCA. Becky explains that during times of upheaval, re-engineering strategy and logistics -- however daunting -- is critical. She points to the Principal Solar Institute’s PSI Ratings, the industry’s first unbiased, comprehensive analysis and comparison of PV modules, solar power generation systems and manufacturers, as an example of leading through change by setting a new standard. Energy leaders who can lead the adoption of solar, a clean, viable and abundant energy, as a “power partner” for generating cost-effective peak generation energy, play an important role in the interest of the entire energy community.TRANSCRIPT
