Vision of Quality Teaching and Learning with Laptops The Student …

There is a big difference between personal use and professional use of ICT.

We cannot assume students have mastery of ICT tools needed for learning.

Page 9: Leading der nsw with you faculty

Vision of Quality Teaching and Learning with Laptops The Student…

Students do not morph into adult learners – it must be articulated clearly what is required – how to behave and how to study and ultimately how to move from teacher dependency.

Learning experiences need to be created that assist the student to move from a dependent learner to a self directed learner.

Vision of Quality Teaching and Learning with Laptops The Teacher…

Teachers devise student centric programs of learning that address agreed curriculum standards and employ contemporary learning resources and activitiesDER Strategic Plan , Canberra

WHAT SUPPORT DO YOUR TEACHERS NEED TO ACHIEVE THIS?

Page 13: Leading der nsw with you faculty

Vision of Quality Teaching and Learning with Laptops

• Teachers need to reconceptualise the learning environment. They are the scaffolders.

• Teachers need to scaffold activities for students to engage with on their own or with others so that ultimately deep learning occurs.

• Teachers are managers of learning rather than repositories of knowledge

The Teacher…

Page 14: Leading der nsw with you faculty

The Message.....

...... it’s the pedagogy that counts. It’s worth keeping in mind that laptops are only a tool. They’re at our disposal to make learning easier, and more enjoyable and meaningful for children. (Holmes, 2008)
