Lear’s Global Continuous Improvement teams strongly supports our

sustainability efforts using lean manufacturing processes to identify energy

and waste reduction projects, track progress and operate a best practice

website to share successful projects. A sampling of energy reduction

projects undertaken at several plants around the globe during 2013 include:

• Replaced lamps with more energy efficient lighting such as T5 fluorescent and LED

technology.

• Installed a solar water heater to reduce energy consumption for process water.

• Heating the plant using waste energy from a Biogas powered combined heating and

power unit, provided by a supplier. Approx 300 t CO2 reduction per year and approx.

44% cost reduction.

• Modified roofing to let more sunlight in to reduce lighting requirements.

• Implemented plant monitoring to ensure task lighting and computers are switched off

during off shifts.

• Revised air compressor system to run smaller compressors to provide essential

compressed air for specific activities. Allows plant to turn off large compressors and

save energy.

Key Water Risks and Water Stressed Regions

• Water scarcity can have a sizeable impact on our manufacturing operations

• We use water in many key manufacturing phases in our plants (metals and fabric plants)

• We cannot be certain we will always have access to the water we need

• Some of our facilities are located in regions where water supplies are under stress

• Global climate change has the potential to further impact the availability and quality of water

• Major By-Product Recycling has consistently increased since 2010.

• Recycling rate dropped in 2013 as Reflected in the total waste volume decrease by 58% from 2012.

• Lear has re-established a base line from the 2013 data

with the addition of new facilities. New emission factors

have also been utilized to update the CO2e emission

calculations.

• Lear has set new 2020 goals using the same percent

reductions and the new 2013 baseline.

Steps to Becoming More Sustainable

• Systems must be put in place to manage sustainability issues

• Leverage lessons learned from ISO14001

• These steps will be necessary in the process

• The process does not end:

– Continuous improvement

– Changing sustainability pressures may keep “moving the finish line”

One Heart One Lear Program - 2013

Lear Philippines has always prided itself for its active involvement in different community outreach programs as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. This outreach program includes, among others: gift-giving, school building repair, feeding program, provision water sanitation facilities, tables & chairs. This is the reason why Lear Philippines has been identified to take part in this year’s One Heart One Lear Program.
