AUGUST 2016
Dear Parents
The academic year is well under way now, and the school seems to have settled into a healthy, happy rhythm. The students are busy, noisy and happy. Life is good! We are a happy school, because happy children learn better than unhappy ones. The warmth of this school is apparent the moment you walk through the doors, as is the energy. Our classrooms are seldom quiet, because they are filled with activity as children (and teachers) actively learn with enthusiasm. The engagement of the children is obvious; learning is a joyful experience which is energetically pursued. The theme of the month was ‘Diversity’, and the role of School Of India in promoting and safeguarding such diversity. The concept of diversity encompasses acceptance and respect. It means understanding that each individual is unique, and recognizing our individual differences for societal prosperity.
Diversity is about understanding each other and moving beyond simple tolerance and irrational conflicts to embracing and celebrating our strengths. I am sure that the understanding of diversity, all of you parents have kindled in your children will go a long way in creating a safe, positive, intellectually stimulating and nurturing environment for each one of us.
This diverse but interlinked heritage in India is among our greatest assets. My first concern is to protect the unique patchwork of national, regional and local cultures inside the school boundaries.
Addressing the American University in 1963 in a landmark speech where he made proposals to loosen the grip of the cold war, John Fitzgerald Kennedy said: "Let us not be blind to our differences – but let us also direct attention to our common interests and the means by which those differences can be resolved. And if we cannot end now our differences, at least we can help make the world safe for diversity".
