Speaking is an undeniably great way to grow your business. But when most people think of “Speaking” they tend to think of inspirational keynotes. Really there are three kinds of talks: 1) Paid Keynotes (you get paid to speak to a group typically for an hour) 2) Pay to Play (you invest to get in front of an audience and make an offer) 3) Speaking for Free (you speak to a group and make an offer which results in sales) The truth is that I’ve grown my business rapidly and made some of my biggest paydays by speaking for free (and my clients have too). Sounds A$$-Backwards right? I get it. Let me break it down a little more…Last I checked, the National Speakers Association said the average keynote pays about $3-$5k. You go, give your talk, you leave with a check. Done.

My clients however, want to do more than just inspire people, they want to help transform them! They are coaches, consultants, authors and experts with a big message to share and a desire to have a big impact on their clients’ lives. Maybe you can relate?

The talk you’ll deliver is more like a mini-workshop. It informs and entertains everyone, and at the end, you give people the opportunity to step into deeper training. I want you leaving your talk not just with compliments, but with leads, and clients, and cash in hand.

My client Mary just spoke for free locally, and generated $20,000.00. Jen walked away with $16,000.00 in recurring monthly income, from her first talk ever. And my own talks have generated $30,000.00, $40,000.00 yes even $50,000.00.

Now I can’t guarantee you results. I don’t know what training you’ve had. I don’t know how your talk is structured. In fact, its likely we haven’t even met yet! (Though I hope we do!) :) So I can’t say these results are to be expected for everyone who steps to the stage. I’m just letting you its IS happening. And those are just a few examples.

In a moment, I’m going to give you some simple ideas on how you can use speaking to take your business to the next level too. But the first thing you want to know, is that any talk ***when delivered properly *** gives you and your business several gifts:When you rock your talk right, you leave with C.L.A.S.S:

CONNECTION: The connection formed between you and the audience is more deep & loyal than any online connection you could ever create. LEVERAGE: The beauty of speaking is that you can give one talk, and walk out with 10, 20 40,50, 100 new clients! Its possible. Imagine this… work once. Get paid MANY times. AUTHORITY STATUS: You instantly go from a nobody to gaining expert & authority status. People see you as being bold for speaking, and that’s naturally attractive and magnetic. SOCIAL PROOF: Your ability to move people into action is magnified by the power and proof that a live group-setting provides. Tables of people deciding to buy together…everyone around can see the room responding to you, it is proof of your awesomeness! And suddenly the room is moving & buying as one. SALES: Oh and let’s not forget the selling power of speaking. One rockin talk done the way I suggest will give you a rush of visibility, leads, and clients (even without any follow up).

How exactly can rocking FREE gigs pay BIG? Let’s look at just a few ideas you can use to in your coaching, consulting, author or expert business.First, I want you to know that there are infinite places to speak including your local Chamber of Commerce, networking meetings, at a sales or management meetings for a corporations, at association meetings, or industry conferences and events. Then adding webinars and teleclasses can substantially reduce your travel, and boost your reach! :)

In Command Any Room and at The Rise Live Event we talk more specifically about how to craft and structure your talk to serve and sell. I also touch on this in The Start Me Up with Speaking Webinar. The important thing to know right now, is that you want to have a talk that gives people an awakening, so that they are ready to make a change and solve the problem you were born to help them solve. You also want to give the audience some core content, tips or ideas that they can put into action right away in their life or business. But be forewarned! You don’t want to share so much content that they get overwhelmed or think that they suddenly (and miraculously) have the problem licked, because we also know that isn’t true.

There is typically more people need to know that what you can teach in 30 in to an hour. This is why making an offer for people to step forward into more help after your talk is critical. (And yes I have a template you can follow to craft your talk correctly.)

FREE GIGS$ $PAY BIG But imagine you have your talk ready to rock. Its about the core of what you do for clients. So you’re excited and confident to deliver it. At the end of your talk you’re going to invite people to take the next step. You have two options.

TWO TYPES OF OFFERS:1. A free offer: A digital “gift” you offer in exchange for just their name and email that allows you give a little more after your talk, and add new names and emails to your contact list for follow up later. 2. A paid offer: A product, program or service you offer in exchange for money, that will give deeper training than what you can provide in a short talk.

My preference is that you offer people both… and if you follow what we teach at The Rise and in Command Any Room, you’ll do just that. But here is the one commandant you must follow

Better to start with a one day workshop right in your home town. :) But for those of you with more experience, remember that they best way to fill your live event IS with speaking. People who attend events, attend events! (make sense?) So speaking is the best way to find warm leads and fill your room. Plus, since they already met you in person at your talk, their interest in you and your program will be deeper from the get-go when you see them again at your event.
