#5: WE THINK WE HAVE TO “MAKEIT HAPPEN”

Having to “make things happen” isdifficult—it involves long hours,

hard work, and lots of worry.Thinking about making thingshappen makes most of us tired, sowe just stop trying.As children, we learned early andoften that we have to physicallycreate whatever we want, startingwith getting good grades in schoolso we can get into a good college,get a good job, and live happilyever after. We’ve got phrases like,“You’ve got to pull yourself up byyour bootstraps” and “If you wantsomething done right, you’ve gotto do it yourself.”The truth is that we do makesome things happen, but most of

the time we create with theUniverse’s help. It’s like we’resitting in the Universal restaurantand ordering off a menu: “I’d likethe new job for an appetizer, thered car well done as an entrée,and a fabulous soul mate fordessert.” The Universe takes ourorder and serves it up—and theonly thing we have to pay at theend of the meal is ourappreciation and gratitude. Nowthat’s a cheap date!Did you know that there is anangel, guide, totem, and helperfor just about everything in life?Whether you want a new job, a

new mate, or just a shift in yourlife (“three degrees to the right,please”), there is a Universalbeing just waiting to help you. Allyou have to do is ask.Daily rituals remind us that we’rejust doing the asking, and theUniverse (and all its helpfulbeings) is handling the delivery.These rituals remind us to relaxand just ask!

#4: WE ARE AFRAID OF FAILURE

Because we are not taught inschool how to attract what wewant, and because we don’t get alot of practice, most of us feel that

we are failures when it comes togetting what we want. We hatefailure, so we give up on ourdesires and just accept whatevermeager servings life puts on ourplate.The truth is that we are allfabulous co-creators incollaboration with the Universe,and we never fail. Sometimes wedon’t create what we want, butwe’re always creating—we can’thelp it. Humans are born tocreate, all the time. What’s more,most of the time we do createwhat we want in life. We justbecome impatient and move on to

our next desires before our firstcreation has manifested. As aresult, we end up settling for less,and never see the results of ouroriginal creations!Rituals of magic and witchcraftbring that creative process up tothe conscious level, making usaware of the actual creationsequence. We begin to see theconnection between what we askfor and what we get as a result.Once we are aware of thiscreation process, we becomemuch more confident creators andwe pick up those old dreams anddesires we abandoned long ago.

#3: WE ARE HYPNOTIZED BYDAILY LIFE

As a society we have become sohypnotized by the hum of daily lifethat we forget to createconsciously. If you want to seehow hypnotic daily life is, check inwith your thoughts first thing inthe morning and last thing atnight. Chances are, your thoughtswill be about all the things youhave to do during the coming day,or all the things that happenedduring the past day. Your bigdesires and dreams probably don’teven figure in those thoughts!Between day planners, smart

phones, and tablets, we are sunkup to our eyebrows in theconcerns of daily life. We becomeso engaged in making our dailylives “work” that we forgeteverything else. We aretransformed from humans torobots.A magical or witchcraft practicecan help us create contact withSpirit, and maintain that contactthroughout the day. Our Spirits arethe keepers of our dreams,desires, and life lessons. When weare in touch with Spirit, weremember ourselves and why weare in body on this planet. Spirit

keeps us in touch with our Spiritpath, and helps us walk throughour daily lives with purpose andmeaning. When we are Spirit-led,we are no longer hypnotized bydaily life, but use the tools of dailylife to achieve our Spirit dreams.

#2: NEGATIVITY IS POPULAR

If you’ve been around themetaphysical community at all,you’ve probably heard about theprinciple that we attract into ourlives what we focus on. In otherwords, the sum of our thoughtsand feelings (both positive andnegative) create the events and

people in our lives. So if you wantto create your desires in life, allyou have to do is think positivethoughts and feel positive vibes.Sounds simple, right?Unfortunately, in our society it’seasier said than done. Negativityis so popular in our society thatwe’re often branded as“Pollyannas” if we’re too upbeatand popular. Just turn on the TVand watch any news program orsitcom. The news programs reportmainly on disasters or gloom anddoom predictions, while thesitcoms are all about charactersinsulting each other with sarcastic

remarks.We’ve become so accustomed tothese negative forms ofcommunication that it actuallyfeels odd to think, feel, and act ina positive way. Being positivemeans we have a hard time fittinginto the gossipy conversations thathave become the norm in dailylife.The good news is that witchcraftrituals, done regularly, move usout of the negative spheres ofinfluence and attract similarlypositive people and events intoour lives. These rituals give us theextra courage and confidence to

stand in the positive flow ofconsciousness rather than thenegative. Plus, they help usremember our dreams, and tothink and feel in alignment withthose dreams.

#1: WE DON’T BELIEVE WE CANBE, DO, AND HAVE EVERYTHINGWE WANT

With phrases like, “You can’t haveyour cake and eat it, too,” whocan blame us for giving up on ourdreams? We’re taught thatwhenever we want something, wehave to give up something else.The truth is that this Universe is

limitless from the humanperspective. We can ask for andcreate anything and everything wewant, and there is still enough leftover for everyone else. We live ina continuously expandingUniverse, where we are allcreating more and more andmore. As humans, we can’t ask forenough creation to exceed theUniversal limit.Our job as humans is to create.We are here to experience theprocess of creation, of being,doing, and having everything wewant. Rituals of witchcraft ormagic connect us with Universal

helpers who can assist us in theprocess. These rituals also connectus with the understanding that theUniverse is limitless, and we cankeep asking to our heart’s content!

3. MORE COMPLEX RITUALSAND SPELLS: RITUALS AND

SPELLS DONE WITH MAGICALTOOLS

3.1 SUN CANDLE BLESSINGRITUAL

Note: This information andprocedures for this ritual areduplicated from another book in thisseries (Witchcraft Spell Books: BookII - Learn How to Do WitchcraftRituals and Spells with HouseholdIngredients). We repeat the

instructions for this ritual in thisbook in case the reader does nothave access to Book II. The SunCandle Blessing ritual is crucial tomost of the spells and rituals in thisbook.

The Sun Candle Blessing ritual is areally simple one that will help youstay positive, and create forwardprogress in your life at any time.This ritual has many benefits, andthere are so many ways you canuse the Sun Candle Blessing,including:

- clearing your house of negativeenergies

- creating sacred space- lifting your spirits- lifting someone else’s spirits- giving yourself a much-neededenergy boost- acting as an aid to meditation- giving you mental energy forstudying or clear thinking- preventing negative energiesfrom settling into your sacredspace- increasing your sense ofpersonal power- giving people greater ability tomake choices- creating harmony in a group of

discordant people- offering healing energy tosomeone going through hardtimes- attracting positive events andoutcomesThe Sun Candle Blessing ritual is

effective because it uses the Fireenergy Sun Yellow, which is usefulfor overcoming negative statesbecause this color promotes SpiritFire, creativity, motivation, andradiance. The act of burning thecandle actually “pushes” theseenergies toward you and out intothe room. This makes the SunCandle Blessing ritual the perfect

magical act for so many situations!

WHAT YOU WILL NEED FORTHIS RITUAL

- a Sun Candle of pure yellow (abright yellow candle that has nored or orange or tones)- wooden or paper matches (nolighters)- a compass to find the cardinaldirection South (no guessing)- pen and paper (either a journalor book of shadows dedicated to

your practice)- a table and chair, with the chairin the South facing North and thetable in front of the chairFor beginning practitioners, we

suggest using the glass-encasedyellow candles that can be found inthe religious aisle of most grocerystores. While some of these glass-enclosed candles have images ofreligious icons, most stores alsocarry plain yellow candles (youwant the plain yellow ones). Thesecandles are perfect for the SunCandle Blessing ritual because thecolor is usually pure yellow, and theglass provides a measure of fire

safety.

Some advanced practitioners tendto carve a tribal sun symbol on apure yellow candle, but that is notnecessary for this ritual to beeffective—nor do we suggest youtake the time to carve a candle atthis point. The act of carving wouldonly hinder your forward progress,and we want you to get thebenefits of this great multi-purposeritual as soon as possible!

For this ritual, you will use onlypaper or wooden matches. Thereason is that most lighters havebutane, which contains ingredients

that can cause unwanted sideeffects if used in this ritual.

You will also need a compass tohelp you find the cardinal directionSouth. In our tribal traditions, mostof our spells and rituals areperformed with the practitionersitting in the South, facing North.You may need to step outside touse your compass, as theelectromagnetic energy in yourhouse may interfere with yourcompass reading.

HOW TO DO THE SUN CANDLEBLESSING RITUAL

Awareness of change is animportant part of the Sun CandleBlessing ritual. In other words,performing this ritual always has apositive effect, but beginnerpractitioners may not be sufficientlyaware of those changes at first.Hence, they may not think that theritual is effective. That’s why thefirst step of this ritual is all aboutawareness. Follow these steps toperform the Sun Candle Blessingritual:

1. Place all of your materials infront of you on your table. Sit in

the South and face North.

2. Take a few moments to writehow you feel in your journal orbook of shadows. Take note ofyour physical, emotional, andmental states, as well as any“issues” that are bothering you orkeep recurring as naggingthoughts. You will return to yourjournal or book of shadows at theend of this exercise.

3. Light the candle using woodenor paper matches (do not use alighter).

4. Wait until the candle flame issteady and tall (this type of flame

is called a “working flame,” andmost practitioners wait until theyhave a working flame beforeproceeding with any kind ofcandle magic).

5. Cup your hands around theflame, focusing your attention onthe candle and flame.

6. Charge the Sun Candle bysaying the following charge versein a voice of command (a strong,powerful voice). Charging is theprocess of “programming” amagical tool, such as the SunCandle, to perform a specific act.

Child of Wonder,

Child of Flame,

Nourish My Spirit,

And Protect My Aim!

If there are other people in theroom with you, change the word“My” to “Our.” Also change theword “Spirit” to “Spirits.”

7. Leave the candle burning in theroom for at least 30 minutes (besure the candle is on a protectedsurface such as a plate and is nota fire hazard).

8. At the end of 30 minutes, orwhen you feel ready, blow out theflame (don’t snuff it).

9. Spend a moment or two in thearea to see if you can detect adifference in the level and qualityof energy in the area—in yourself.Both you and the area in whichyou did the ritual should feellighter, more harmonious, and/ormore peaceful. Write yourimpressions in your journal orbook of shadows. Compare yourdescriptions from before and afteryou did the ritual.

We suggest that you perform thisritual for 30 minutes each day for40 days. Each day be sure tojournal about your experiences,feelings, and sensations before and

after the ritual. You will besurprised at how effective thissimple spell can be. For a beginnerpractitioner, the Sun CandleBlessing ritual is a perfect way tobuild a solid practice of witchcraftand magic.

HOW TO “CLEAR” MULTIPLEROOMS WITH THE SUN CANDLEBLESSING RITUAL

In the previous set of directions,we gave you instructions on how tocharge the Sun Candle to affect youand the area immediately around

you. For instance, you will probablynotice that the Sun Candle Blessingritual affects your mood. At thesame time, the ritual will probablypositively transform the energy inthe entire room.

But what do you do if you want toclear more than one room ofnegative energies? You can achievethis in two ways. You can either usemultiple Sun Candles, or you canuse a single Sun Candle and moveit around your house.

If you want to clear all the roomsat once, you will need multiple SunCandles. Place a Sun Candle in each

room, the follow the directionsgiven earlier to light and charge thecandle in each room. Let eachcandle burn for 30 minutes or morebefore blowing it out.

If you want to clear your roomsone by one, you can light andcharge the candle in one room andlet it burn for 30 minutes. After 30minutes carry the candle into thenext room you want to clear, andcharge it again without blowing itout. You can clear your entire housethis way. Note that you must“recharge” the Sun Candle eachtime you move it to a new room.

If there is a room that feels like ithas particularly negative energy,you may want to let the candleburn for more than 30 minutes.Sometimes letting the Sun Candleburn for one to two hours isnecessary to clear the room. Useyour judgment and “feel” to helpyou determine when the candle hasdone its work.

If the candle flame sputters or isdampened (burns very low) whenyou light it or after you charge it,then the room probably has enoughnegative energy that you will needto let the candle burn for longerthan 30 minutes. In addition to

using your own spiritual senses, youcan check the height of the candleflame to determine when the SunCandle has cleared the room. Whena dampened flame transforms intoa consistently tall and bright“working flame,” the Sun Candlehas completed the clearing.

HOW TO USE THE SUN CANDLEFOR PARTIES

Using the Sun Candle is a greatidea if you want to have happy

energy at a party. Before the partystarts, go ahead and clear everyroom in your house with the SunCandle Blessing ritual.

If you have invited people to yourhouse who normally producenegative or unpleasant energy,then you may wish to keep one ormore Sun Candles burning duringthe actual party. Burning the candleduring the party will keep the areaclear of negative energies andpreserve your sacred space.

To most people the Sun Candlelooks just like an ordinary candle,so burning it won’t attract much

attention. Burn the Sun Candle inevery room affected by the party.The charged Sun Candle will act asa sort of shield, or psychic teflon,and prevent junky energies fromsettling into your house.

In addition, people who areespecially loud or obnoxious will berepelled by the candles (althoughthey won’t know why). Thesepeople will tend to find an excuseto leave the party early! Once theparty is over, you may want to letthe candles burn for another 15 to20 minutes before blowing themout just to be sure all the negativeenergies have been cleared.

As you can probably tell, having agood supply of Sun Candles isuseful. If you are going to use SunCandles frequently, we suggest youbuy the larger pillar candles ormultiple yellow candles in glass(the type found in the religiousaisles of most grocery stores).

With the large pillar candles, onlythe outside needs to be pureyellow, since the color on theoutside of the candle determines itseffect. The inside of the candle canbe white. If you plan on burningthese candles regularly, we suggestyou burn each on a large plate as afire safety precaution. With the

candles that are encased in glass,be sure that there are no picturesor words on the glass, since thiscould inadvertently program theSun Candle in unexpected ways!When you burn these candles, wesuggest you place them on largeplates as well for fire safety.

HOW TO HELP SOMEONE ELSEWITH THE SUN CANDLEBLESSING RITUAL

Does someone in your life need alittle boost, or even a big boost?You can charge and burn the Sun

Candle for someone else, even ifthey don’t live anywhere near you.Remember that the Sun Candleproduces energy that nourishes theSpirit so this ritual is particularlygood for people who feel depressedor low, or even for people who maybe dying. Sun Yellow energy is theonly energy that gives peoplegreater ability to make choices.

To charge the candle for someoneelse, sit or stand in the South facingNorth with your candle in front ofyou as usual. After lighting thecandle with a paper or woodenmatch, change the charge verse toreflect the name of the person you

want to help. For instance, if youwant to help a person named AmyJohnson, you would use this chargeverse (while focusing your intent onAmy):

Child of Wonder,

Child of Flame,

Nourish Amy Johnson’s Spirit,

And Protect Her Aim.

You can burn your candle for thisperson daily if that would be useful.Location is not a barrier for energy,so even if the person is halfwayacross the world the Sun Yellowenergy will get to them.

HOW TO BOOST YOUR OWNENERGIES ALL DAY LONG

Do you have a day of arduouswork or effort coming up? Are youpacking up and moving your house,or meeting with people all day? Ifso, you can burn your Sun Candleall day to give you energy andspiritual support throughout.

Light and charge your candle asusual, then put it in a safe place

where you can check on it regularly.For instance, if you are working athome you might want to put thecandle on a plate and put bothplate and candle in your kitchensink, which is fireproof. Just makesure there is nothing flammablearound the candle, and be sure tocheck on the candle every hour orso.

Many people who do bodywork,such as massage, Reiki, or energyhealers, burn the Sun Candle all dayto keep themselves clear of otherpeople’s energies. Some burn thecandle right in the room where theyare working to help both

themselves and their clients.

The Sun Candle can seem smalland insignificant compared to allthe big things we have to attend toeach day, but never underestimatethe power of Sun Yellow. When youstudy magic at a deeper level youwill see that energy drives theworld, not physical action. Moreimportantly, the quality of energythat you project into the worlddetermines the types of events andpeople you will encounter. Themore you are filled with Sun Yellow,the more you will attract upliftingand bright events and people!

THE SUN CANDLE BLESSINGRITUAL AS A FIRE MAGICSPELL

Everything in this Universe ismade up of some combination ofthe four magical elements: Air, Fire,Water, and Earth. The Fire elementis associated with will, personalpower, and creativity. Fire is alsothe action-oriented and

motivational part of any creationand manifestation.

Magically speaking, once you havedeveloped the idea of what youwant to create (and done theplanning part) in the Air element, itis time to move into Fire, where youtake action and endeavor to bringyour creation into being.

Fire is associated with thedirection South, which is also thedirection in which we perform allmajor spell work and creation.Specifically, Fire corresponds to:

...energy, power, will, desire,anger, pain, motivation,

radiance, passion, initiative,aggression, limitation,endeavor, activity,creativity, willingness, urge,inspiration, excitability,courage, bravado,compulsion, fanaticism,frustration, resentment,rage, freedom...

If you want to affect any of theseareas in your life, then you need towork with Fire. Unlike Air, which hasonly three colors, Fire has six majorcolors:

Sun Yellow: Spirit fire, creativity,radiance

Yellow-Orange: motivation,excitability, activityRed-Orange: anger, pain, fever,aggression, driveBright-Red: courage, bravado,will, endeavorDeep Red: passion, flowElectric-Blue: all bands,initiating force on galactic oruniversal levelsAs you can see, Sun Yellow is an

excellent and safe color for thebeginner practitioner to use forhealing, cleansing, and gaining anenergy boost. Sun Yellow has noneof the potential of the Fire colors to

create unwanted side effects, suchas anger, nervousness, orexcitability. For beginnerpractitioners, Sun Yellow is theperfect way to start playing withFire energy. Stay away from theother Fire colors until you havemuch more experience with Fireenergy, lest you do harm to yourselfand others!

3.2 MAGICAL APPLES (NOTSNOW WHITE’S!)

Using simulacra magic you can getrid of bad habits, lose weight, getrid of a bad debt, or even heal atumor. In this section we will teachyou how to use an apple to get ridof something unwanted in your life.

WHAT IS SIMULACRA MAGIC?A simulacrum is a likeness

(simulacra is the plural ofsimulacrum). Using simulacra inmagical operations is very similar toclassic voodoo, where you key anobject to a person or thing.Whatever you do magically orotherwise to the object alsohappens to the person or thing it iskeyed to. Simulacra allow you to

perform magical operations onpeople or things even if they arelocated thousands of miles away.Simulacra magic falls into the areaof Water and Earth spell work.

You can use photographs,pictures, dolls and other smallmodels, lists, symbols, Tarotlayouts, and other objects assimulacra. You can also use chesspieces or objects made of stone,ceramic, wood or glass. If you usewood be sure it is fairly denseotherwise it will not easily key.

In this basic simulacra spell,we are going to use an

apple.

Using simulacra allows you to domagical procedures on people andthings you are not in direct physicalcontact with. In fact the person orthing that you affect can be all theway on the other side of the world,or you can affect a global situation.

Note: As with all spell work,record everything in yourbook of shadows. Alsoremember that magic is aprecision science and alteredprocedures produce alteredresults!

In this case, we’ll use an apple as

the main simulacra. Later, after youhave used this spell several times,you can decide whether to stickwith an apple or use some otherkind of fruit… or some other kind ofobject altogether!

HOW DO YOU USE AN APPLE INWITCHCRAFT AND MAGIC?

Now how do you use an apple asa magical tool?

Easy.

You simply “key” the apple toanything that you want to shrink,whether it is your level of body fator a chronic bad habit that you can’tseem to shake. In case you havenot read the first two books in thisWitchcraft Spell Books series,keying creates a correlation orpsychic connection between anobject—in this case an apple—anda situation, person, or thing. Inother words, keying magically“programs” the apple.

In this basic spell, you will put theapple on a keyed Plate, and allow it

to wither slowly over time. As theapple withers, the situation towhich you’ve keyed the fruit willalso shrink. An apple makes a goodsimulacrum in this case because itwithers at a slow and believablerate. To be effective, the process ofchange in to simulacrum object hasto progress at a believable rate.

Try to push simulacra magic toofast and it will backfire on you. Forinstance, an apple can take severalweeks or months to fully wither,which is appropriate for shrinkingcertain problems (like body fat!).Using a bowl of melting ice cream,on the other hand, to represent the

process of melting body fat wouldbe much less effective since itwould be difficult for your body toshed as fast as the ice cream wouldmelt.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED FOR THEMAGICAL APPLE RITUAL

- a fresh apple of your choice- a Sun Candle- paper or wooden matches

- a compass- a Plate made of ceramic (salador dinner size), preferably ofGrass Green (bright spring green)- pen and paperBefore you can set your spell into

motion, you will need to obtain andkey a Plate. Like other magicaltools, such as objects used assimulacra, your Plate needs to bekeyed for this spell to be effective.With magical tools, keying clearsany impure energy from your Plateand aligns all the molecules so theenergy flows in a particulardirection and personalizes the Plateto you so that other people cannot

easily use it.

The Plate, known in magicalcircles as a Shield or Pantacle, isthe tool used to handle Earthenergies. It is known as a Shieldbecause it is often used magicallyto shield various operations againstoutside interference. Any smallmagical objects, such as talismansor pendulums, stored on a keyedPlate will be magically protected. Inthis case, we use a Plate to preventinterference with your spell and tokeep the spell energies focused onthe apple.

HOW TO QUICK-KEY YOURPLATE

Because this is a guide on spellcasting for beginners, we will usethe “quick key” method for thePlate. The quick key method iseasy, simple, and requires no othertools. The more complex Firebowlkeying technique requires muchmore time and energy, and for thissimple spell the quick key worksequally well.

To quick key your Plate, placeyour hands on either side of thePlate, gripping the Plate with yourthumbs on the top surface of thePlate and the rest of your fingerssupporting the underside of thePlate. While looking at a GrassGreen (bright spring green) colorsource, begin flowing Grass Greenenergy from your dominant handthrough the Plate into your otherhand.

Keep the energy flowing up yourarm, across your shoulders, downthe arm of your dominant hand (thehand with which you point). Flowthe Earth energy out your output

hand again. Circulate Grass Greenfor about three minutes, then pullyour Earth energy back into yourbody. You will have a temporarilykeyed Plate. Your Plate should feelslightly tingly, heavy, warm, orloaded. It will definitely feeldifferent than before you keyed it.

Note that you will need to quickkey your Plate every day until yourspell is complete.

WRITING DIRECTORS AND

LIMITERS FOR MAGICALAPPLES

Once you have keyed your Plate,you will need to decide whether youwant to write a set of directors andlimiters for this spell. We stronglyrecommend that you do take thetime to write directors and limiterssince magic is a precision science,and the more precise you are inyour instructions to the Universe,the more likely you are to get yourdesired outcome. The onlyexception to this rule of thumb is ifyour situation is so simple that yourDirectors and Limiters would be twolines or less.

If you want to write directors andlimiters, refer to the followingsection on “What are Directors andLimiters?” Take your time, think itthrough, and do it right. TheUniverse will do exactly as you askit to do, so ask for precisely whatyou want—nothing more, nothingless. Once you have written yourdirectors and limiters on a cleansheet of paper, fold it if necessaryso it fits easily on the Plate, andplace it on the Plate. Then proceedto the section that follows.

WHAT ARE DIRECTORS ANDLIMITERS?

Now we just need to teach youhow to write directors and limiters.Directors and limiters are no bigdeal. Directors are what you wantyour spell to do. Limiters are whatyou do not want your spell to do(such as cause harm or death tosomeone).

Specifically, directors and limitersspecify the what, how, and whenfactors of a spell. You always needto specify directors and limiters forcandle and Tarot spells (we willcover only a simple candle spell inthis book).

Directors and limiters programyour simple candle spell in terms of:

- the purpose of the spell- how certain elements andenergies are to be used- the safeguards on the spell- when the spell will start andstopSpecify anything that is important

in your directors and limiters. Forinstance, if you are writing a spellfor a new job you may want tospecify the job description, amountof pay, type of company you wantto be involved with, what kinds ofbenefits are involved, when youwant the new job to start, the typeof boss you want, and so forth.

Anything you don’t specify is leftto chance and spells usually followthe path of least resistance.Without directors and limiters youmay achieve your goal but the spellmay use methods that are illegal,dangerous, or harmful to self andothers. The directors and limiters

should almost be legalese. Thinkthe way a lawyer might think whenworking on a contract. You don’thave to put anything in yourdirectors and limiters that you willdo yourself, such as research onproperty values before buying apiece of property.

One student developed andlaunched a spell for a new jobwithout specifying in her directorsand limiters that her salary comefrom legal means. She ended upwith an ideal job, wonderfulworking conditions, and co-workersshe loved. She had to quit the job,though, when she discovered that

she was working for the Mafia.

If your spell involves other peoplebe sure that the directors andlimiters are not binding (i.e. takingaway a person’s choice or forcingthem to do something against theirwill). If you feel that someone’sattitudes will affect your spell, youcan set up a limiter preventing thatperson’s attitude from affecting thespell or invite powers and beings tohelp.

Do not try to modify that person’sbehavior by binding them. Avoidenforcers, which are factors thatforce you to live your life a certain

way, in your directors and limiters.For instance, a student oncespecified that the Universe notbring him more business than hecould emotionally handle. After helaunched the spell he broke up withhis girlfriend and became anemotional wreck. The Universetherefore sent him absolutely nobusiness!

When specifying numbers in yourdirectors and limiters (such as age,salary, size, etc.), use a rangerather than a single number so thatyour spell has more freedom toachieve the goal. Also, make sureyour directors are reasonable. One

student asked for $10,000 tomanifest immediately. This is notreasonable. A spell is an energymatrix that gathers force andovercomes barriers over time—itrarely works right away. If you askfor something impossible you nullifythe spell immediately.

An Esoteric School teacher oncedid a Tarot spell to prevent a billfrom passing that would stop thesale of all supplements. It hadalready passed in the Senate andhad a majority in the House. It wascoming through to finalization in theHouse. The teacher did the spelland for two years nothing

happened. Then, the day that thebill came before the House, thecongressman who proposed the billpulled it. The spell actualized in asingle hour, two years after it waslaunched! The moral of this story isto be patient!

In the beginning, design yourspells to create relatively smalleffects over a fairly short period oftime. As you gain experience youcan increase the content and reachof your spells.

Use limiters to program start andstop perimeters into the spell. Youcan even specify a delayed starting

time for the spell using a limiter.You may also want to put in astandard limiter that says, “No oneshall suffer harm, untimely death,or loss of property as the result ofthis spell,” or something similar. Itblocks the spell from taking certainharmful pathways in achieving itsgoal.

SAMPLE DIRECTORS ANDLIMITERS

To give you an idea of how towrite directors and limiters, hereare some examples to get youstarted!

MONEY SPELL – DIRECTORS ANDLIMITERS

1. To bring at least $10,000.00 infour to five weeks, by September1st, xxxx, and not more than onemillion dollars by December xxxx,although the upper limit-date maylater be extended.

2. No harm shall come to anyone,nor untimely death, nor loss ofproperty as a result of this spell.

3. Whatever money shall come as

a result of this spell shall be freeand clear, with no stringsattached.

4. The money will be used to payoff debts, to start my new career,and to purchase a house.

5. The spell will be open tosupport, help, and empowermentfrom angels and higher beingsthat can make a positivecontribution.

6. My attitudes and fears will nothave an adverse affect on thisspell.

HOUSE LOCATING SPELL,DIRECTORS AND LIMITERS

1. To locate a house available forrent in or near XXXX, Colorado –available for rent between thestart of this spell and up throughfirst week of May, xxxx.

2. House will have at least fourbedrooms and two bathrooms (fullbaths), plus a large kitchen with aside-by-side refrigerator or spacefor same.

3. House will have at least a two-car garage and a yard at least aslarge as xxxxx, and/or larger.

4. House will be available at leastfor two years, and the rent willnot exceed $x,xxx a month with

no penalty for late payment.

5. The landlord is to be local andhonest, cooperative, friendly, andopen-minded.

6. Our dog will be welcome andthe area will be safe for her, notclose to a busy street.

7. The space will work well for myhealing business, with no legalrestrictions or attitudes thatoppose that.

8. The property will be of a sacredand spiritual nature forharmonious living for all of us.

9. The spell will help xxxx andxxxx in their search and work well

with powers and beings (allies).

HOW TO DO MAGICAL APPLESNow that you have done all the

preparatory steps of keying yourPlate and writing directors andlimiters, follow these steps to dothe magical apple ritual:

1. Now you will need to key the

apple to the problem or situationthat you want to reduce. To keyyour apple, hold it in yourdominant hand (the hand withwhich you point) while you thinkabout everything you can aboutthe situation.

If you have difficulty focusing inthis way, unfold and read aloudyour list of directors and limitersin a voice of command. Otherwise,just use your intention.

For instance, if you want to reduceyour debt, think about the nameof the individual or company towhom you owe the debt, focus onthe specific amount owed, recall

the amount you pay each month…and so on. The more detailed youcan get, the more accurately theapple will be keyed to yoursituation. In addition to thoughts,you can and should also flowemotions into the apple. Flow thefeelings you have about the debt,be it fear, shame, guilt, anger,irritation, or hate.

2. When the apple feels charged,full, warm, heavy, tingly, orotherwise different in a magical orenergetic sense, it is charged andready for use. Put the apple ontop of your keyed Plate and on topof your folded list of Directors and

Limiters.

DAILY MAINTENANCE OF THISSPELL

Since your Plate is quick keyedrather than permanently keyed, youwill need to quick key it each dayfor your Plate to stay keyed. Whilethis may seem like aninconvenience, in actuality the needto rekey your Plate daily gives youan opportunity to restate yourintentions.

We suggest that after you do yourdaily rekeying of your Plate, youread your directors and limitersaloud while holding the apple inyour dominant hand. This addsenergy to the relationship betweenthe situation and the apple, andstrengthens your magical spell.

Finally, be patient. The goal ofthis spell is to achieve a permanentand lasting result. These kinds ofmagical results take time, energy,and daily maintenance. Expect thiskind of spell to take weeks or evena few months. Negative energy likeimpatience will only hinder yourspell, so be careful that you are in a

positive mood when you do yourdaily rekeying and restating ofDirectors and Limiters!

HOW TO AVOID DOUBTIf you feel doubtful about whether

your spell is working, ask theUniverse for a sign that your spell isworking. Then start looking for thedifferent ways that the Universe istrying to speak to you.

One of the things we love mostabout magic is the many and variedways it shows up in our lives. Many

negative on the surface, and seewhether the event answers somerequest we have made for magicalhelp. One question to ask is, “Whatdid I get from this event? What didI give up or give away?”

3.3 HEALING WITH THEMAGICAL PLATE

In this section you will learn howto use a quick keyed magical Plateto heal yourself and others. ThePlate is a magical tool with manyhealing properties, being the tool ofMother Earth and Earth energies. Allyou will need for the rituals outlined

in this section are your Plate andthe person you seek to heal(yourself or another person).

You can use your quick keyedPlate to deliver concentrated blastsof Grass Green and Earth Brownenergies for healing. You will needto quick key your Plate each timeyou want to use it for healing.

The Plate can handle and outputmore energy than we can transmitdirectly with our hands, whichmakes it a wonderful magical toolfor healing.

HOW THE MAGICAL PLATEWORKS

To effectively use your Plate forhealing you need to understandhow the Plate projects energy.When you push energy into yourPlate, it gathers from the edgesinward, forming a cone that tapersdown to a thin beam. The coneprojected by most Plates is around18 inches long (see the followingfigure).

HOW TO HEAL WITH THE PLATEIt’s a good idea to practice

projecting beams of Grass Green

from your Plate on yourself. Do notuse Earth Brown until you havemore experience, since this colorcan produce permanentunanticipated effects.

HOW TO PRACTICE USING YOURPLATE

1. Hold your plate by placing yourhands on either side of the Plate,gripping the Plate with yourthumbs on the top surface of thePlate and the rest of your fingerssupporting the underside of thePlate. Position your Plate so thatthe back of the Plate faces towardthe ceiling, and the front (the

surface on which food is normallyplaced) is pointed at your thigh.

2. Pull Grass Green energy inthrough your elbows or shoulderblades.

3. Push it down your arms andinto the Plate through yourthumbs.

4. As you flow Grass Green energythrough your Plate, move yourPlate back and forth over yourthigh. Keep moving your Plateuntil you get a precise feel for thelength and shape of the beamthat your Plate projects. WithGrass Green energy you will feel

itching and weaving as the beamhits your body. Once you’vepracticed on yourself you can useyour Plate for the types of healingoutlined in the following sections.

HEALING BRUISES

For a bad bruise that’s starting toheal, you can use your Plate toflow Grass Green into the area topromote healing and cellularregeneration.

SMOTHERING TUMORS

You can smother tumors withbeams of Earth Brown from yourPlate. The benefit of using your

Plate is that it won’t produce asmuch inflammation as an Athame(the magical knife). The EarthBrown energy will solidify thetumor into a hard lump, which youcan then break up and wash awaywith your Chalice. NEVER useGrass Green on tumors. Tumorsare already too healthy and GrassGreen will only accelerate thegrowth process.

STOPPING INTERNAL BLEEDING

With forms of internal bleeding,such as ulcers, using your Plate isan excellent solution. Use yourPlate to put some Earth Brown

energy into the area. Once thearea stops bleeding the personmay have a lump in their stomach.Flow some Grass Green into thearea to start the healing processand allow the natural Air andWater energies in the stomach tosoften and dissolve the lump. Forulcers the Earth Brown energy willhelp to block out the acids thatare dissolving the stomach lining.Do not use Earth Brown energy inthe heart, lung or throat areas. Itis too heavy for these organs andwill smother them.

STOPPING EXTERNAL BLEEDING

Use Earth Brown energies fromyour Plate to slow the flow ofblood from external wounds. FlowEarth Brown into the area until thebleeding stops. Do not add GrassGreen energy since Grass Greentends to accelerate flow, whichwould increase the flow of blood.Wait a few days until the wound iscompletely closed over and stable,then add in a little Grass Greenenergy to start the healingprocess. If the wound startsbleeding again you’ve added theGrass Green too soon. Add moreEarth Brown energies to stabilizethe area then wait a few more

days before adding Grass Green.

HEALING BROKEN BONES

You can heal broken bones, oncethey are properly set, with yourPlate. Begin by flowing GrassGreen energy into the break tostart the healing process. Theperson will experience the knittingor weaving sensation that alwaysaccompanies bone growth.Afterward, flow some Earth Brownenergies into the area to stabilizeit. If the person goes to thehospital to have the bone set besure they don’t get a hard cast.Hard casts tend to slow the

healing process and you can’twork on the break with your Platethrough a hard cast. A removablecast is much more conducive tohealing since you may need to addGrass Green into the break daily.

3.4 PENDULUM CLEARINGS

Has a life-problem suddenlycropped up? Do you need a quickiesolution to fix the problem before itbecomes a catastrophe? Then trythe easy pendulum clearing ritual.With this ritual, you can literallytake the pendulum of your choice,swing it in circles for a while, and

consider your problem solved. Infact, you don’t just have to considerthe problem solved, you can watchit be solved right before your eyes.

For instance, one of our studentswas running late for a veryimportant meeting with her boss.Her boss hated when people werelate, and heavily penalized peoplewho showed up late. Moreimportantly, the meeting was abouther annual performance review.

Showing up late was simply notan option! And yet, our studentfound herself stuck in traffic with adead cell phone. She was about to

panic.

But instead, she kept her cooland, instead of panicking, shewhipped out her pendulum. Sittingamongst a gaggle of non-movingcars, she spun her pendulum on thesly (so other drivers wouldn’t thinkshe was crazy!). She asked that thependulum “unwind” the problem. Assoon as the pendulum stoppedspinning, she considered herproblem solved.

When she arrived at her meeting,her boss’ secretary informed herthat her boss had gotten a suddencase of food poisoning, and had

gone home. The secretary had lefta message on the student’s deadcell phone, but of course thestudent could not listen to themessage. The point was, however,that the boss never knew that ourstudent was late to her meeting,and the secretary volunteered tokeep the secret.

Problem solved! That was easy,right? You can use this same ritualanytime life throws you a monkey-wrench and you need a solution…fast.

All you need for this ritual is apendulum. We will describe the

parameters of a pendulum, as wellas how to make and train your ownpendulum so that you get accurateanswers and help. Finally, we willgive you specific instructions onhow “spin away your troubles”using your pendulum!

WHAT IS A PENDULUM?A pendulum is any lightweight

object suspended from a string orchain. It is a magical tool that

becomes a natural extension ofyou, and can access any and allinformation that exists in theUniverse. You just have to knowwhich questions to ask.

For instance, a pendulum canreveal your body’s own nativewisdom. It can indicate whethercertain supplements or floweressences will improve your health.It can also reveal whether a healthproblem stems from a particularorgan or an emotional source.Dowsing with a pendulum is asimple form of magic that has aremarkable number of applications.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWNPENDULUM

You can easily buy a pendulum,but many practitioners prefer tomake their own pendulums. Anyonecan make a pendulum. You justneed a lightweight object plus achain or some string.

You can use paper clips, smallrocks, earrings, hairpins, pendants,small medallions, crystals, andtalismans. If you want to use acrystal, use an amethyst, and store

any kind of crystal you use in apewter box, which protects it fromnegative energy. Don’t use Auroracrystals, which have been treatedwith petroleum (and thus workpoorly as pendulums).

If you choose to hang yourpendulum on a chain, use a silverchain, which is the most magicallystable metal. You can also hangyour pendulum on any kind ofnatural fiber such as cotton or silk,horse or human hair, or leather.

TRAINING YOUR PENDULUMFOR DOWSING AND OTHERMAGICAL PROCEDURES

Once you have made yourpendulum your next step is to trainit so that it answers your questionsquickly and accurately. Follow thesesteps to train your pendulum.

1. First cleanse your pendulumwith smoke from a chargedcedar/sage smudge stick. To

charge your smudge stick, sit inthe South and face North. Lightthe stick with paper or woodenmatches. When the stick isproducing a thick, dense columnof smoke, say aloud in a voice ofcommand:

Fire and Air where you are cast,

Let no spell nor adverse purposelast,

Not in accord with me!

Cleanse this tool and cleanse itsspace,

Far from here send baneful trace!

Hold your pendulum in the column

of smoke, keeping it there untilthe smoke sticks to all parts of thependulum. Once the smoke sticks,the pendulum has been magicallycleansed. A used pendulum, or apendulum made from objects with“junky” energy, may take up tofive minutes to be cleansed. Bepatient. The smoke will eventuallystick.

2. Next, key your pendulum sothat it responds to your energies.To key it, hold your pendulum inyour dominant hand (the handwith which you point). Flowenergy into the pendulum for aminute or two, or until it grows

warm and tingly.

3. Begin training your pendulumby establishing its “yes” and “no”directions. Decide if you want yourpendulum to indicate “yes” with avertical or horizontal swing. The“no” indicator will be the oppositeof the “yes” indicator (if “yes” is avertical swing, then “no” is ahorizontal swing).

It’s often easier to use yourpendulum while sitting, so get in acomfortable position and holdyour pendulum suspended fromyour dominant hand. Make surethe pendulum is on a long enoughchain or string to swing freely.

Rest your elbow on a table or yourknee to stabilize your hand.

Swing your pendulum in a gentleclockwise circle and tell it, “Showme yes.” Wait for the pendulum tosettle into the proper swing(whatever direction you chose). Ifit doesn’t, ask again.

Once your pendulum consistentlyswings in the proper direction for“yes,” use the same process toask it to show you the properswing for “no."

4. Finally, start training yourpendulum to give you actualanswers by practicing asking

questions about short futures. Askyes/no questions that can beverified in a 15 to 30 minute timeframe. For instance, at the end ofthe work day you might ask yourpendulum, “Will my roommate behome in the next 20 minutes?”Verify the correctness of yourpendulum’s answer, and then askanother question.

It actually does not matterwhether your pendulum gives youthe correct answer or not at first. Itis more important to give yourpendulum a lot of practice withquestions about short futures. Themore your work with your

pendulum, the more accurate it willbecome. Don’t get obsessed withyour early results.

HOW TO DO PENDULUMCLEARINGS

One of the best things you can dowith a pendulum is clear problemsor snags in your life. Do thefollowing steps to performpendulum clearings.

1. Hold your pendulum in your

dominant hand, letting it danglewhile you visualize the problemyou want to clear.

2. Ask your pendulum, “Can I,may I, should I, clear thissituation?” If you get a yes answerfrom your pendulum, then moveforward. You can use an indicatorplate later to ask your pendulummore complex questions (see theindicator plate provided followingthis section).

3. Begin swinging your pendulumin a counter clockwise direction(the direction of unwinding),asking it to clear the situation. Asyou do this, “see” the situation

resolving in your mind. Be veryspecific with your request andwhat you envision as to thesituation being resolved.

4. Continue to focus on clearingthe situation until your pendulumstops spinning in the counterclockwise direction. It will theneither start moving along avertical or horizontal axis, stop orstart spinning clockwise. When itstops swinging counter clockwiseon its own then the problem hasbeen cleared.

Once a problem has been cleared,you might unconsciously bring itback by fretting about it. Trust the

power of your pendulum and yourintent, and release the problemfrom your consciousness. If you findit seeping back into yourconsciousness throughout the day,change your focus to somethingelse.

You can use this same pendulumexercise to clear repetitive thoughtsthat you find yourself having.Instead of visualizing a situationyou want resolved just hold therepetitive thought in your mind. Askyour pendulum to clear the thoughtfrom your life. After the process,you may still find the thoughtpopping up in your mind

occasionally, but it should appearfar less frequently than before, andeventually will disappear… just likemagic!

ASKING THE RIGHTQUESTIONS

At this stage, your pendulum cananswer any yes/no question. Toincrease the accuracy of yourpendulum’s answers, check the wayyou question your pendulum. Howyou phrase your questions willdetermine the accuracy of theanswers. The general principle forasking questions in pendulummagic, as in spell work, is, “Beprecise!”

For instance, if you ask yourpendulum, “Will it rain today?” andyour pendulum says, “Yes,” don’t besurprised if you don’t see a drop of

rain that day. Was your pendulumwrong? No. It probably rainedsomewhere in the world that day.Since you didn’t ask for a preciselocation, your pendulum could notgive you a precise answer.

As with everything else, practicemakes perfect when it comes topendulum magic. To remindyourself to practice, take yourpendulum with you in your pocketor purse (wrapped in a piece of silkor in a small pouch) and use it anytime you have a few minutes toyourself. You’ll be surprised at howmany opportunities you will have touse it!

3.5 SENDING MESSAGES WITHTHE MAGICAL CHALICE

Have you ever had something youreally need to talk to someoneabout, but you are not sure how togo about it. It could be somethingyou are dissatisfied about at workand don’t think your boss will bereceptive to discussing. Or maybe

you need to tell a friend something,but you know they may becomedefensive. Or it could be you havehad a disagreement or argumentwith someone, and are not surehow to approach them to straightenthings out.

Don’t worry. You can stillcommunicate with these peoplewithout ever having to say a singlething to them directly. There aremany magical tools with which youcommunicate with others on aSpirit-to-Spirit level.

Messages can be sent to peoplewith the Wand, which is the Air

tool. However, if you want a deeperlevel communication—or you wantto access someone on theiremotional level—using the Chaliceis the best choice. The Chalice isthe Water element magical tool,and Water is the elementassociated with emotions.

HOW TO CHOOSE A MAGICALCHALICE

For this ritual you will need aChalice, the magical tool of theWater element. These tips shouldhelp you choose an appropriateChalice. Your Chalice should:

- be a goblet-shaped drinking cup

that has a stem for easyhandling.- have a good-sized bowl (youwill want to be able to store smallobjects in your Chalice formagical protection). The bowl canhave patterns on it as long as thepatterns are not too deep.- be made of only one material.Avoid combinations of material,such as glass and metal. Glassand ceramic work best, althoughyou can also use Chalices madeof silver, pewter, or copper. Somepeople prefer clear glass becauseyou can see what is in theChalice, and other people prefer

Water Blue (bright blue) Chalicessince we often use Water Blue inworking with the Chalice. WoodChalices do not work wellbecause they have too much Airelement in them.

KEYING YOUR CHALICEThe first thing to do with your

Chalice, just as with any magicaltool, is to key it. Keying it clearsany impure energy and aligns themolecules so that the energy flows

in a particular direction. It alsopersonalizes the tool to you.

Before you can use your Chalice tosend messages to another personon an emotional or spiritual level,you need to key it. Follow thesesteps to “quick key” your Chalice:

1. Cup your hands on either sideof the bowl part of the Chalice.

2. Locate a Water Blue (brightblue) color source.

3. Looking at the Water Blue colorsource for reference, begin circlingWater Blue from your output(dominant) hand through theChalice to your input (non-

dominant) hand. Continue movingthe energy up your input arm,across your shoulders, down youroutput arm, and out your outputhand again.

4. Circulate the color Water Bluefor approximately three minutes,and then pull your Water energyback into your body.

5. This will create a temporarilykeyed Chalice.

HOW TO SEND MESSAGESWITH THE MAGICAL CHALICE

Chalice messages affect theemotions and can be very strong asthey literally shoot out of yourChalice like water from a fire hose.They can become quite compulsiveso you should make sure you arefollowing Rules of the Road whensending these types of messages.The Rules of the Road say not tobind anyone. If you send acompulsive message then you arebreaking this rule.

For example, if you send a strongmessage of “Stay home!” tosomeone, the person may not be

able to leave their house for days.Think through your messages, as inany magical procedure, and keepthese types of message short andsimple. There are other techniquesto send longer messages or holdentire psychic conversations withpeople, such as the Water Bowltechnique discussed in Book II ofthis series. Note that in this ritual,you will use Water energy rathert h a n actual water from yourChalice to send messages. Followthese steps to send messages withyour Chalice:

1. Sit in the South facing Northwith your materials before you.

2. Light and charge your SunCandle, waiting for the candle toachieve a working flame beforeproceeding to the next step.

3. Move to the East with your SunCandle and Chalice. Sit facingEast. Hold your keyed Chalice inyour output (dominant) hand withthumb and forefinger around thebowl part, and the rest of yourfingers wrapped around the stem.

4. Extend your output arm straightout to your side at shoulderheight, keeping the top (openend) of the Chalice pointing at theceiling.

5. Now bend your output arm sothat it forms a 90 degree angle atthe elbow. With your output armin this position, keep the top ofthe Chalice pointing toward theceiling.

6. Pull Water Blue energy (from aWater Blue color source) into yourelbow of your output arm, andpush that energy into the Chalice.

7. Look in the direction of youroutput arm, and visualize the faceof the person to whom you aresending the message. Visualizethe person’s face about five feetaway from you, at your shoulderheight.

8. Straighten your output arm atthe elbow with your palm up.Keep your output arm, nowstraightened, level with yourshoulder. In this position, theChalice will now be resting on itsside in your up-facing palm. Thetop (open end) of the Chalice willnow be pointed at your visualizedimage of the message recipient’sface. Allow the Water energy thatyou have stored in your arm flowinto the Chalice.

9. Shoot a beam of Water Blue atthe visualization of the person’sface while saying your messageout loud. It is very important to do

this with your palm facing up,since Chalice messages arealready very compelling. Amessage sent with the palm downcould become an enforcer—meaning the message couldactually force the recipient to takeaction against his or her will.

10. Blow out your Sun Candle.Store both your Chalice and SunCandle.

Chalice messages can be a veryeffective way to startcommunication with someone thatyou feel uneasy about approaching.The message may need to berepeated multiple times before you

see a noticeable effect as there aremany blocks that can beencountered in the other person.Just remember to think it through,keep it simple, and have fun withthe process.

3.6 GETTING RID OF THEUNWANTED WITH THE

FIREBOWL BURN

One of the best Fire magic spellsaround is the Firebowl Burn. AFirebowl is exactly what it soundslike—a bowl that contains Fire, ormagical Fire energy. Specifically, aFirebowl is an essential magical tool

that can be used for cleansing,divination, message-sending, full-cast circles, and many other typesof beginner and advanced magicalspells.

In this section we will teach youhow to use a Firebowl to get rid ofanything unwanted in your life. TheFirebowl Burn is a simple spell thatis also very effective.

hands, and any surfaces from theheat.- Self-starting charcoal, whichcan be purchased from religioussupply stores or online. The roundcharcoals with bowl-shapeddepressions in the middle arebest.- Wooden or paper matches.Use only wooden or papermatches to light your candles andcharcoals. The scent andenergetic side-bands associatedwith butane and other petroleumproducts change the Fire energiesyou are working with.- Finely chopped or shaved

wood chips or tree bark. Theseare used to insulate the charcoalfrom the tree resin or incense,and to facilitate the burning ofthe materials in your Firebowl.- Pine resin. You can collectpine resin yourself, or purchase it.- Finely ground or rubbedsage. If you collect sage, you cangrind it in a blender or coffeegrinder. You can also purchase itin many online stores or healthfood stores.- Sun Candle- Pen and plenty of blankpaper

HOW TO CHOOSE YOURFIREBOWL

The best Firebowls for magicaluses have these characteristics:

- made of brass, cast-iron,ceramic or a hard hardwood- four to six inches in diameter (orlarger, since the Firebowl Burnrequires the Firebowl to be ableto contain burning paper)

- four to five inches deep- a shape that is easily held withone or both hands- light enough to carry in onehand if necessary- stable when placed on a flatsurface- slightly curved-in and flaredback out at the top rim topromote “columning” of incenseor smoke (see the followingfigure)

HOW TO PREPARE ANDCHARGE THE FIREBOWL

Charging the Firebowl programs itfor a specific purpose, such ascleansing a space, person, orobject. Since magic is a precisionscience, charging your Firebowl forcertain operations can make this amuch more effective magical tool.Charging states the intendedpurpose and programs that purposeinto the tool. Charging is not aninvocation or prayer to spirit-beingsor deities, just a program.

You don’t have to key a Firebowlbefore you use it (keying aligns theenergies in a tool and personalizes

it for your use). The Firebowl keysitself every time you light it.

Before charging your Firebowl,prepare it with the propermaterials. Read through thesematerials and prepare yourFirebowl. Print out the instructionsfor charging the Firebowl, and thenproceed with the Firebowl Burn!

PREPARE THE FIREBOWL

1. Fill the bottom of the Firebowlwith one to two inches of sand orclay.

2. Place a block of unlit self-starting charcoal in the center of

the bed of sand or clay.

3. Have your wood shavings,sage, and resin ready to put ontothe charcoal after it is lit. Makesure your pine resin is broken intosmall pieces that can easily beadded onto the wood shavings.

4. Light your Sun Candle withwooden or paper matches, andthen charge the candle using thefollowing charge verse:

CHARGE THE FIREBOWL

1. Stand or sit in the South facingNorth with your Firebowl andother materials in front of you.

2. Light the charcoal from theflame of the charged Sun Candle.It will begin sparking withinseconds. If the charcoal is old ordamp, you may need to use tongsto hold it over the candle flamefor several minutes. Also, with oldor damp charcoal, you may wantto light the top of it in the centerof the bowl-shaped depression sothat the materials you put on topwill burn more easily.

3. Once the charcoal is lit, place itback into the center of yourFirebowl. Blow Sun Yellow energy,pulled from the Sun Candle, intothe Firebowl.

4. Add wood shavings to thecharcoal, then pine resin, thensage as needed until the Firebowlis producing a good column ofsmoke.

5. In a voice of command chargethe Firebowl with the appropriateverse below, blowing Sun Yellowinto the charcoal before and afterthe verse, and between each lineof the verse.

HOW TO DO THE FIREBOWLBURN

This is a wonderful ritual becauseit matches the energy of anger sowell: it burns! Plus, it is reallysimple to do, not to mention highlysatisfying. Just be sure to observefire safety precautions before doingthis magical ritual. Use this ritualwhenever you feel angry ornegative, or want to removenegative factors from your life.Follow these instructions to do theFirebowl Burn:

1. Seat yourself in the Southfacing North. Have all of yourmaterials in front of you (including

instructions on Charging theFirebowl).

2. Light and charge the SunCandle.

3. Charge the Firebowl as per theinstructions.

4. Now write everything that isbothering you or making you feelnegative. Pour it all out on paper,as fast and furious as you can.Write as many pages asnecessary, and feel free to repeatyourself as many times as youwant. There’s no limit. Write untilyou literally run out of steam(which is a combination of Fire

and Water energy).

5. Now for the good part of thismagic ritual—the big burn! Placeyour Firebowl in front of you (besure your Firebowl is large enoughto accommodate the burning ofthe papers—if not, move theentire operation to the sink orsome other place that is safe forburning!).

Before you set your papers alightwith your matches, take a momentto do whatever you need to movethe anger out of you. Ask for helpfrom angels, ask for guidance, orjust have a moment of silence.Then, light up the papers and watch

your anger go up in smoke. You canlight each sheet individually (manypeople find this method moresatisfying), or wad up the wholemess of papers and light the entirething (again observing fire safetyprecautions).

Whatever you do with this magicritual, enjoy the heck out of it. Besafe about your burning, and thenenjoy, enjoy, enjoy! It’s not oftenthat we have permission to dosomewhat destructive acts like this,so go ahead and milk it for all it’sworth!

Note that if you are dealing with a

chronic or stubborn problem, youmay need to do the Firebowl Burnon a daily basis for 40 days ormore. This will give you 40 days ofmaking daily conscious contact withthe Universe. This will also build thestrength of your spell matrix for 40days in a row. While some expertsfeel that bad habits or chronicconditions can be handled in lessthan 40 days, spiritually the number40 is very effective.

If you choose to perform this ritualfor 40 days, it is very important thatyou be committed to doing so! Ifyou should miss a day, start overagain. Don’t worry… this will only

add strength to your spell. Thecontinuity of 40 days in a row willincrease the power of this spellexponentially. This is true of anymagical spell, ritual, or meditation.Plus, this continuous daily contactand exercise of intention will causeyou to build up a vast reservoir ofenergy with which you can begin tomanifest anything you desire.

3.7 TOUCH ASSIST FORHEALING

Most of us know about the powerof the healing touch. However, ifyou are not one of those peoplewho was born just knowing how to“lay hands” on people and healthem, then the touch assist spellritual can be of real help to you.

The touch assist is a simple waythat you can methodically heal anarea of chronic pain or acute injury.The beauty of this spell ritual is thatanyone can use it effectively, giventhat the instructions are followedexactly. You do not need anythingbut your hand (or possibly therubber eraser end of a pencil) forthis ritual.

TWO THINGS TO REMEMBER

WHEN DOING TOUCH ASSISTThere are two things to keep in

mind when using this technique:

1. Body energy flows are head-to-extremities, inside to outside, andback-to-front.

2. Any injury or energy problem inone side of the body produces a“resonance reflection” or mirroringin the other side (because allmeridians are bi-lateral).

HOW TO DO THE TOUCH ASSISTFollow these steps to do the

Touch Assist:

1. Locate the problem area, andexplain briefly about the TouchAssist to the person on whom youare working.

2. Have the person close theireyes.

3. Lightly touch the person five orsix times at irregular intervals andrandom spots near to, but aboveor on the “head side” of the areain question (be sure to include the“resonance reflection” area). Eachtime you touch the person, say

“Feel my finger,” andacknowledge their response with“Okay,” “Good,” “All right,” or“Thank you.” In turn, the personshould also respond each timewith “Yes.”

4. Next, move to spots that are onthe “away from the head” side ofthe area, but still near theproblem area. Do five or sixtouches there using the samecommunication sequence asabove for each touch.

5. Finally, work in the area inquestion, including the “resonancereflection” area, using five to tentouches and the same

communication sequence for eachtouch. Keep the communicationfresh and lively—don’t getmechanical! You want to keep theperson’s awareness or interestlively because this procedurebrings awareness to places in thebody that have no awareness.Mechanical words do not makecompleted communication cycles.

6. Once you’re done, say “OK,that’s it,” and then ask the personto open their eyes. Have themcheck for sensations and functionin the problem area.

ADDITIONAL NOTES ON TOUCHASSIST

- If the area in question isrelatively large, the number oftouches should be increased tocover it.- If the area in question is insidethe trunk or torso of the body,working the mid-thighs (front,sides, and back of both thighs)will often be effective. Themeridians that relate to the

internal abdomen are on thethighs and lower legs.- If the person checks and reportssome abnormal sensations or lackof function still present in theproblem area, do the procedureagain.- To Administer Touch Assistto Self: Substitute the blunt endof a pencil (or some similar objectsuch as a capped pen or a pieceof dowel) for your fingertip inmaking the touches.- As a Variant of Step 5(particularly when dealing with“dead-spots”): After a number oftouches (five to ten) in the area,

begin by touching just the“nearest to head” side of the area(with the same communicationsequence), tell the person tofollow your finger, and then“draw” it lightly through the areawhile repeatedly asking theperson, “Can you still feel myfinger?” Always acknowledge anycommunication from the personas before. If you get a “No,” goback to where you last got a“Yes” and repeat the process. Gothrough the area five or six timesin this manner. Then repeat theentire procedure in the“resonance reflection” area.

SOME ADDITIONAL THOUGHTSON HEALING

Magical healing is one area ofmagic and witchcraft practice thatcan be truly tricky. Suppose youperform a magical healing ritual onsomeone or do a remote healing.The person gets better and you feelgreat.

But then the doubt creeps in. Youbegin wondering whether you were

responsible for the healing or if theperson was going to get betteranyway. Or maybe your healing andthe person’s recovery were justcoincidental—they just happened tooccur at the same time. Or perhapsthe person’s angels and guidesstepped in and performed thehealing, and your magic hadnothing to do with the person’srecovery.

That kind of self-doubt mostassuredly will drive you crazy andinterfere with your ability toeffectively practice magic. When itcomes to practicing any kind ofmagic, here’s one rule that will help

you keep self-doubt out of thepicture:

NEVER ALLOW YOUR MAGIC TOBE TESTED.

People who don’t believe in magicwill commonly challenge magicpractitioners to “prove” their magicby passing certain tests. This doesnothing but introduce self-doubtinto your practice. This rule appliesto you as well. Don’t try to “test”your own magical abilities or try tofigure out if you really healedsomeone.

The best position to take when itcomes to magical healing is to

realize that you are doing magic foryour benefit and for the benefit ofothers, should they choose to makeuse of it. According to masterdowser and healer, Harold McCoy,who has assisted in manymiraculous healings, we are not andcannot be the sole instruments ofremote healing. Healing is usually acombined effort between healer,client, and higher beings. If anypart of this equation is missing,such as when the client refuseshealing energy, healing will notoccur. At the same time, whenhealing does occur, no single partyin the equation is responsible.

Instead, it’s a group effort.

As Harold himself puts it:

“I just do these things andthe person gets better. Idon’t know that there is anyconnection, or what that maybe, but it doesn’t matter!”

This is a failsafe position formagical healing. You know there isa connection between your magicalact and the healing, but you don’thave to know the exact nature ofthe connection. This lets you off thehook when it comes to self-doubt.

These are Harold’s seven

principles for magical healing work,which may help keep you from self-doubt when healing yourself orothers:

1. Never turn anyone down.

2. Be always 100% committed.

3. Always get permission.

4. Always invoke your guides andangels.

5. Don’t charge, but acceptdonations.

6. There are no failures.

7. We don’t diagnose nor cure.

3.8 NIGHTTIME BLESSINGRITUAL

This spell is appropriate since thenight is the end of the day, and thisspell marks the end of the guideddirections in this book!

best magic rituals for creatingharmony within the family is thenighttime blessing ritual. This ritualis done at night, right before bed,with the whole family.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED FOR THENIGHTTIME BLESSING RITUAL

- a Sun Candle- paper or wooden matches- a Chalice (see description fromthe earlier section of this book)- sea salt- spring water

HOW TO DO THE NIGHTTIMEBLESSING RITUAL

This ritual is a peaceful,meditative ritual that helps topromote harmony and health infamilies and couples. Doing thisritual consistently each eveningbefore bed can lead to calm, restfulperiods of sleep. If you don’t have apartner to do this ritual with, you

can do it with yourself or even yourpets! Follow these steps to do thisritual:

1. Gather and place your materialsin front of you. Sit in the South,facing North.

2. Charge your Sun Candle asinstructed previously.

3. Fill the Chalice halfway withspring water, and sprinkle in alittle salt.

4. Blow Water Blue (bright blue)energy into the Chalice as youswirl the water clockwise.

5. Say the verse below, blowingWater Blue into the Chalice as you

swirl the water clockwise beforeand after the verse, and betweeneach line of the verse:

Water and Earth where you arecast,



Bless these people and bless theirspace,

Far from here send baneful trace.

Thus my will, so it be!

6. If you are doing this ritualalone, change the fourth line to“Bless this person and bless my

space.”

7. Hold the Chalice in your lefthand, and face the person you areblessing (unless you are blessingyourself).

8. DIP THE INDEX FINGER OFYOUR RIGHT HAND INTO THEWATER, AND DRAW A VERTICALLINE DOWN THE CENTER OF THEPERSON’S FOREHEAD (OR YOUROWN FOREHEAD). THE LINESHOULD BE ONE TO ONE-AND-A-HALF INCHES LONG.

9. Draw a horizontal line of thesame length from left to rightthrough the center of the first line,

forming a cross.

10. Starting at the right end of thehorizontal line, draw a clockwisecircle, touching both ends of bothlines. As you draw the circle, sayto the person, “For the peace ofyour mind.” If you’re doing theritual alone say “For the peace ofmy mind.”

11.Repeat the same procedure onthe person’s chest (or your ownchest), over the heart. As you

draw the circle, say, “For the joyof your heart.” Substitute thewords “my heart” if you are doingthe ritual alone.

12. Ask the person to take a sip ofwater from the Chalice. As theysip, say, “And for the health ofyour body.” If you’re doing theritual alone, take a sip and thensay “And for the health of mybody.”

13. If there are two peopleparticipating in the ritual, reverseroles and repeat the process. Ifthere are many people, oneperson can bless everyone, andthen one person in the group

blesses the first person.

14. You can use the alternateverses, “For the health of yourmind,” and “For the health of yourSpirit.”

Enjoy the restful peace thatcomes from this very ancientblessing ritual. You can also usethis ritual anytime you are unhappyor unable to sleep.

A WORD ON FAITH AND BELIEFVERSUS ACTUAL EXPERIENCE

The word “faith” has alwaysgenerated a lot of controversy,especially when used in conjunctionwith religion, magic, witchcraft,God... anything that stirs up theemotions and can rock the veryfoundation of our souls.

But what is faith really? Is it abelief? Is it a knowingness? Do youhave to have faith or belief thatmagic is real to practice it?

Look up faith in a dictionary

and you’ll find somethinglike this:

1. confidence or trust in a personor thing: faith in another’s ability

2. belief that is not based on proof(he had faith that the hypothesiswould be substantiated by fact)

Biblically, faith is “the generalpersuasion of the mind that acertain statement is true”(dictionary.com). So basically faithis a belief that something is truewhether or not there is proof. Thisis according to standard dictionarydefinitions... and probably theopinion of the man on the street,

too.

But in actuality, faith isaction.

The above definition doesn’t reallywork for practitioners of witchcraftor magic. To believe something tobe true, a practitioner has to havepersonally observed or experiencedthe phenomenon. Until then,everything remains in the categoryof hypothesis. That’s all well andgood, but then how does someone—like you or the average Joe on thestreet—figure out whethersomething is true or worthy of“faith”?

You take action!

What we mean is that youdevelop a daily practice of ritualsand/or spells. The beginner spellsand rituals in this book are greatplaces to start building yourpractice. Pick a procedure, anyprocedure, in this book (or all ofthem) and do them.

Take action! See for yourself whatthese magical spells do for you andwhat effect they have on your life.If you keep an open mind, ask forsigns and guidance along the way,and simply remain open to the ideathat witchcraft and magic are real,

Don’t bother asking a practitionerwhether you should believe in lovespells. Don’t bother asking apractitioner whether the Tarot isaccurate. Why? Because you willonly be getting their experiencesand observations. Their stuff maynot work for you.

You have to determine what istrue and not true for you, as aperson, as a practitioner… whateveryou want to be. Whatever you want

to have faith in... figure outwhether it is true for you first.Here’s a little hint and motivation toget you started:

Whatever you pay into yourmagical practice pays youback… with interest!

What do we really mean byhaving a magical practice? One wayto do a magical practice is to pick asingle magical spell or ritual fromthis book and practice it for 40 days—religiously!

One of the simple rituals you willlearn is to hire a parking angel tohelp you get that perfect parking

spot in a busy lot… you know, theparking slot that is right next to thedoor. There are hundreds ofthousands of parking angels outthere just waiting for a driver suchas you to ask for help.

Should you have faith in theconcept of a parking angel? Shouldyou believe that a parking angelreally wants to help you find aparking place? After all, that soundslike a pretty small act of witchcraft,right? Well, you decide. In fact, youare the only one who can decide.Hire a parking angel for 40 daysand see what happens, if anything,in your life.

At the end of 40 days of hiring oneparking angel per day, ask yourself,“Are parking angels worthy of myfaith that witchcraft and magic arereal?” Answer the question foryourself. If you find it not worthy ofyour faith, you have not lostanything except missing out on afew choice parking spaces. Thatisn’t a lot to give up.

At the same time, you will havepaid into your magical practice...and your practice will eventuallypay you back, regardless of whetheryou decide to have faith in parkingangels. The Universe is ultimatelyfair and a great keeper of accounts.

Any acts of intentions, which aremagical acts, are recorded in theAkashic records, and will pay youback, perhaps when you leastexpect it. If your parking angels areworthy of your faith, you have notonly paid into your practice but youhave also gained a new magicaltool to put in your toolkit! This kindof witchy experiment isn’t justgood, it’s good for you. Best of all,the results—all of them—are yoursforever.

WHAT IF WITCHCRAFT ORMAGIC HAS NOT WORKED FORYOU BEFORE?

Many people write us asking whythe spells and rituals we describedo not seem to work for them. Ouranswer? When the spells and ritualsdo not work, look in the mirror!

Suppose you have set a magicalgoal, decided on a spell to use, and

performed the necessary steps. Youthen wait a while, nothing seems tobe happening, and then you decidethat the spell has failed.

Does this sound familiar? Doyou know anyone with thiscomplaint?

Spells and rituals, when followedaccording to Rules of the Road (tobe described later in this book), andexactly according to the giveninstructions, always work. TheUniverse cannot and does notviolate its own laws.

But why does a spell or ritualsometimes appear not to work?

One of the Universal Laws is freewill. Thus, we can countermand ourown magical work with ourintention. This may include:

- hidden belief that the magicwon’t work- too much attachment to theoutcome (pushing on a spell,which actually slows it down)- a hidden part of self that doesnot want the magic to work(especially in the case ofrelationship disconnects)- throwing everything but thekitchen sink at the problem(resulting in spells or rituals

interfering with each other)- asking for too many things atonce- not waiting for enough time topass to allow results to appearIf you have decided that your spell

or ritual has not worked, then takea hard, honest look at yourself andsee if anything on the list abovecould apply to you. You willprobably find that one or more ofthe items above does apply to you.

If you truly have no clue why aspell or ritual did not work, you mayneed to do some divination todiscover what happened. If you find

you have put too many demandsinto the spell or done somethingincorrectly you can take a spelldown and redo the procedures. Ifyou performed a spell that does notseem to be working, you may needto look at your procedures andmake an adjustment. You mayneed to re-think the goal orthoroughly re-think through theprocedure. All spells and ritualsneed to be thoroughly plannedbecause altered procedures producealtered results. The more complexthe spell, the truer this principle.

What’s the solution? Do the magicright and thoroughly, and then let it

go. Pick specific points at which youwill check progress and makeadditional adjustments then,otherwise ignore it!

ARE WITCHCRAFT AND MAGICBLACK, WHITE, OR SOMETHINGELSE ALTOGETHER?

If you go to Google or Yahoo andtype in the word “magick,” you’llget a lot of listings for black magick,

white magick, chaos magick, sexmagick and thousands of otherkinds of magick. The same is true ofwords like “witchcraft,” “wicca,”“magic,” and “paganism.”

So are witchcraft and magicblack, white, or somethingelse altogether?

In the experience of mostpractitioners with some level oftraining, magic and witchcraft arenot black or white, good or evil.Instead, magic and witchcraft arebased on an unchanging set ofoperating principles that are ineffect whether you know them or

not. Magical laws are like physicallaws: they are impersonal, fixed,and completely immune tobargaining.

One of our favorite authors,Paxton Robey, explains it so well inhis book No Time for Karma. Hesays,

“The Universe and its rulesmust be seen as impersonalprinciple if we are to becomeself empowered beings.Remember the law ofgravity. When you jump outof the window, you will godown. On the way down, you

might remember aboutgravity, but the earth will notcare one way or the other.Gravity is impersonal so itwill not say, ‘She is a prettygood person so maybe weshould let her down easy.’”

While the idea of impersonalUniversal forces can seem cold andunfeeling, the good thing is thatthese laws are very reliable. Justlike the law of gravity, you willnever have to doubt or questionthese laws… ever!

WHAT MAKES WITCHCRAFT ORMAGIC BLACK OR WHITE?

What makes the practice of magicor witchcraft either “black” or“white” is our intent. Rememberthat these practices are all aboutthe study of intention. Our intentionand attention are what direct theforces of magic and witchcraft inone direction or another.

So what do you do when youstumble on a website offering black,

white, chaos, or sex magic? Or howabout a website offering revengewitchcraft? Use your ownexperience and observation todecide if what is being offered isreally right for you. All types ofmagic are valid. What is right foryou depends on your goals as apractitioner.

In reality, all forms of magic arejust specializations in the samefield. Magic and witchcraft are suchvast areas of study that everyparticular branch is just a focusedshot in the dark. Every branch issimply the results of one or morepractitioners trying to find out more

about this area or that.

For example, voodoo magic isabout using the law, “as above, sobelow” to create effects in theworld. What you do to a voodoodoll (as above), you likewise do tothe person the doll represents (sobelow).

Chaos witchcraft is about usingextreme methods to createheightened states of awareness andconsciousness. Love spells areabout attracting the right person toyou, although you have to be verycareful never to bind anyone with alove spell. The karma you garner

when you bind someone with a lovespell is so bad that you will wishyou had never cast the spell!

SIDE-BANDS OR SIDE-EFFECTSTO AVOID

Above we said that all forms ofmagic and witchcraft are valid.They are. But some have “side-bands” or side effects that youmight want to avoid. For instance, ifyou cast the love spell we discussedabove, the one that is supposed to

force a specific person to love you,you are binding that person.Binding is a magical problem thatcauses a backlash—a side-band.

You see, the Universe operates onthe principle of reciprocalmaintenance, which means thatwhatever you do to others will alsohappen to you. So if you bindanother person with a love spell,you can be sure that you will findyour own freedom bound in someway, against your will. Theexperience will not be pleasant!

SOME STORIES OF REALWITCHCRAFT AND MAGIC

Sometimes nothing is asconvincing as “real life” stories ofwitchcraft and magic. While wedefinitely want you to discover thatthe practice of these sciences canbe real and effective in your ownlife through your own experienceand observation, we also want toshare with you some great stories.

These stories will help ground thesomewhat mystical concepts ofmagic and witchcraft into theframework of daily life. Plus, someof them are quite entertaining andwe hope you will enjoy readingthem!

THE GREAT DOG ESCAPE

The spells and rituals that I hadrecently learned in Basic Magicclass came to the rescue recentlyin an adventure I call “The GreatDog Escape.” Without magic, NewYear’s Eve 2001 could have meantAuld Lange Syne for me and Birgit,my Arctic white wolf/Akita cross,

and her mate, Bjorn, the ChowChow mix.Birgit absolutely hates fireworks,so she tunneled out from underthe six-foot chain link fence (withhot wire) during the festivities ofthe neighborhood, even though Ihad given her an herbal anxietyremedy. I returned from a potluckto find nothing but a hole underthe fence and a tuft of wolf hair.After searching frantically andcalling the dogcatcher, I calmeddown and began to use the “waterbowl,” a magical technique that Ihad recently learned (for findinglost objects and for telepathic

communication). At first, I sawBirgit’s head exploding, which Itranslated as bad news.Over the next few days, Iconnected with the dogs and felttheir life force, a great relief. Birgitlet me know the fireworkexplosions made her crazy in thehead. Bjorn “said” he just wentalong for the ride, but he was nowvery sorry because he hadsomething stuck between hiseyes. Both communicated theydidn’t know how to get home. Itold them we needed a third partyto help us, because I didn’t knowwhere they were.

Four days after their departure,the two escapees were broughthome by the dogcatcher. They hadtaken refuge in someone’sdoghouse, where they were foundand reported. They came hometired, hungry, thirsty, and smellingstrongly of skunk.Birgit apologized in dog “bodylanguage,” though she seemedrelieved because I had assuredher in the water bowlconversations that she wasn’t introuble. And Bjorn had a porcupinequill between his eyes, a realconfirmation of the accuracy of thewater bowl technique.

Using the water bowl to contactthe dogs kept me from untold griefduring the beginning of the NewYear, a time I used to envision mygoals for the rest of the year. HadI a bit more practice with thetechnique, I probably could haveeven found the dogs without thehelp of the family with thedoghouse and the dogcatcher.I plan to board the animals forNew Year’s Eve next year, but Iam practicing the water bowltechnique in case I ever need tohelp someone else.

HEALING A HAWK

Shortly after I began taking theBasic Magic class, my husband andI were driving down from themountains back to town. As wedrove on the highway, myhusband saw a beautiful hawksitting on a fence post. Just as hestarted to point it out to me, thehawk took off and flew head firstat top speed into our windshield.In the rear view mirror, myhusband saw him land at the sideof the road after being thrownover the top of the car. Ourwindshield was broken, includingthree large crack marks down the

middle to attest to the force withwhich the hawk hit. We just knewhe could not have survived theimpact, but stopped anyway tosee if we could do anything.My husband found him at the sideof the road and miraculously hewas still alive, but something wasterribly wrong with his left wing. Itjust hung uselessly, and lookedlike it was hardly attachedanymore. He stumbled along theground as my husbandapproached. The hawk was unableto fly away and looked seriouslyhurt.I then remembered what I had

learned in Basic Magic, andthought it couldn’t hurt to trysome energy work. I first gave thehawk some Sun Yellow energy,and then some Sky Blue Air andClear Air. Suddenly the hawk tookoff just as I had finished myenergy work, and we watched himsoar, flap, and use that wing as ifnothing had happened. Wewatched until he had totally flownout of sight and I was sure hewould be fine.

COMMUNICATING WITH GHOSTS

I have a friend who is a verypractical, grounded sort of guy. Hedoes not believe in things hecannot see or explain to himself.Throughout my magic classhowever, he had to admit thatwhat I was doing had merit, eventhough he could not understand it.I had done several healingtechniques on him that hadwonderful results that he could notdeny.Now in his house there was sometype of Spirit in residence. Itknocked things over, flushedtoilets at night, and generally didall sorts of things we had always

thought were along the lines ofpractical jokes. One day it moveda heavy dresser, which hadpreviously taken four grown mento move, across the room. Myfriend finally admitted that he,too, believed there was somethingthere—a Spirit or ghost.He asked me if I could find outany information about it. Throughpendulum work and Tarotreadings, I was actually able toget quite a lot of informationabout why this Spirit was in thisparticular house, the name of theSpirit, some basic informationabout him, and what the “practical

jokes” were really about.I passed this information on to myfriend. From that time on myfriend began to talk to this entityby name and include it as part ofthe family. The “practical jokes”stopped, since the Spirit now hadthe attention it was trying to get.One night my friend had fallenasleep with a heating pad on hissore shoulder. He dreamt of thisSpirit—even hearing the Spirit’sname in the dream. In the dreamthe Spirit was telling him to wakeup and put out a fire. It was sucha vivid and real dream that myfriend could actually feel the heat

of the fire. He suddenly woke upand found that the heat he wasfeeling was not just in the dream.It was real. Something hadmalfunctioned with the heatingpad, and it was smoking andbeginning to burn him! In a stateof half-sleep he turned the heatingpad off, and thanked his Spiritfriend for the warning.However, he did not unplug thepad from the wall outlet. Hereturned to sleep with the heatingpad now on the floor next to thebed. Again he dreamed of hisSpirit friend trying to wake him upand leave because the house was

aflame. He awoke to find that theheating pad was still smoking andhad just started a flame on thecarpet next to the bed. It couldhave easily turned into a housefire if his Spirit friend had notcome to him in Dreamtime andawakened him.

BLOWING OFF STEAM SAFELY!

I had recently begun taking theBasic Magic class to learn newparadigms in my observation of“reality.” I was hoping it wouldoffer me more options and choices

in my life.One of the best techniques Ilearned was how to safely groundout Fire energy, which oftenmanifests, for me, in the form ofanger. One day, when I wasnearing explosion in an argumentwith my wife, rather than continueon that path toward rage, I tried amagical technique to ground outanger.I stretched out on the floor, putmy bare feet on the stove/range,and flowed red/orange (anger) outof me and into the stove until Ifelt very different. Afterward, I feltmuch calmer. I was able to think,

“Okay, I don’t need to blow up inanger. There are lots of otherchoices.” I did not escalate thefight any further.The change was wonderful. It wasa change as much in the energy asin the dialogue with my wife. Mywife is really sensitive to energy.After I had flowed out thered/orange, she said, “OK,something is different.” We endedup tabling the discussion for laterinstead of continuing the fight.I was so glad that we learned toground out anger by sending thatenergy into a major electricalappliance like the refrigerator or

the stove/range. I did not actuallyfeel the anger leave me, butsuddenly I felt the effect of itleaving. At first, I was steamingmad, but the floor and range werecold. During the flowing process,suddenly I felt a sensation like,“Ahhhh…” and the anger left me.If I told my friends about thisexperience, they would laugh sohard and ask me, “What planetare you from?” I really don’t care!These magical practices workgreat!

5.2 WHAT IS A SPELL? WHAT ISA RITUAL?

Since this book is about witchcraftspells and rituals, we shoulddefinitely define the terms “spell”and “ritual” before diving into theactual procedures. That way youhave a clear idea of whatprocedures you will learn later in

this book, as well as their effects.

WHAT IS A SPELL?A spell is any psychic or magical

operation that combines a numberof elements (Air, Fire, Water andEarth) and/or program factors thatproduce a particular result over aperiod of time.

A spell could also be defined as aformalized intention that is carriedout over time until completion. Weuse spells when we are unable todirectly affect a situation or

condition, especially when dealingwith complex factors or barrierswhich require a lot of force toovercome.

By the above definition, chants,litanies, rituals, and sonics are allspells. Prayers are also spells.Spells are energy matricesprogrammed to build momentumand overcome obstacles until theend goal is manifested. Unlessotherwise programmed withdirectors and limiters (what thespell will and will not do), spellstake the path of least resistance tothe goal. While the goal may beappropriate relative to Rules of the

Road, the path of the spell may behighly destructive (and notappropriate according to Rules ofthe Road).

The above is the formal definitionof a spell. When you get right downto it, a spell is nothing more than aformalized intention supported byany powers and beings you mightinvite to help. A spell is theformalization of your ownintention... your desire to create aspecific effect in the world.

WHAT IS A RITUAL?A ritual, as defined above, is a

form of a spell. In witchcraft and

magic, rituals are usually simplifiedspells that are used frequently tomake contact with higher powersand beings on a regular basis—these are called contact rituals.Contact rituals are especiallyimportant if you want to become apowerful practitioner who can askfor and receive aid and assistancefrom higher powers and beings,including Spirit guides, totemanimals, angels, and the beings inthe different directions of theMedicine Wheel.

Rituals are also used to deepenand re-affirm our own intentions,and that is the reason that they are

performed more frequently thanmore formalized and complicatedspells, such as candle or Tarotspells (both of which are quiteadvanced forms of witchcraft ormagic).

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCEBETWEEN A SPELL AND ARITUAL?

In magic and witchcraft, bothspells and rituals are intentions that

have been formalized into a seriesof specific actions meant to createparticular effects in the world. Forthe most part, these effects wouldbe considered “miraculous” by non-practitioners. In reality, theseeffects are simply what higherpowers and beings consider“normal.” Higher powers and beings—such as angels, animal totems,and Spirit guides—live on planesabove our physical Earth plane, andthe practice of miracles is simple forthem, requiring no more effort thanit takes us to heat up a cup ofcoffee!

Practically speaking, spells tend to

be more complex, require muchmore effort to plan and perform,and are often performed fewertimes (often only once). Rituals, onthe other hand, are often muchsimpler. Practitioners often performrituals more often, and many ritualsare intended to be performed dailyor even multiple times per day.

However, these are simply somepractical definitions, and not allpractitioners will agree on thedifferences in definition betweenspells and rituals. Here we simplyoffer you some definitions as “rulesof thumb” to consider as you readthrough this book.

As with everything in this book,nothing should be taken on blindfaith. Always remember, none ofthe information in this book shouldbe taken as true until you haveverified that information by yourown direct observation andexperience. This is your journeyinto the worlds of magic andwitchcraft, and thus you must verifyeach step along the way foryourself—no exceptions!

USING SPELLS AND RITUALSTO SHIFT FROM THE MUNDANETO THE MAGICAL

Did you know that the linebetween the magical and themundane is so thin as to bepractically invisible? You don’t needto find and cross through the Mistsof Avalon to live a magical life. Youdon’t need to find the HogwartsSchool to manifest the so-called“miracles” that are ordinary andnormal to the witchcraftpractitioner. Nope, you just need totake a single itty-bitty step using asingle spell or ritual to cross thatline. That’s it. No exceptions. No lie.

No kidding.

The fact of the matter is that mostpeople simply get busy orforgetful… they forget to use eventhe simplest rituals or spells thatthey have learned. This is true notjust of readers of our books, buteven of our advanced students whohave been studying with us formore than a decade!

So don’t feel bad if you forget howto cross from the mundane into thewitchy or magical. It happens to themost advanced practitioners, and issimply the result of the hypnoticeffects of ordinary life. Just think

about how often you arebombarded by cell phones, pagers,and requests to multi-task, not tomention the need to juggle thedemands of work, family, health,and pleasure. That’s a lot tohandle… and that’s what keeps usfrom remembering to use spells andrituals.

One of our favorite ways toremember to step back into themagical is this line from the song bythe band Brewer & Shipley:

“One Step Over the Line,Sweet Jesus.”

In reality, that line really goes,

“One Toke Over the Line, SweetJesus,” but you get the point… usewhichever line works for you, solong as it reminds you to use amagical spell or ritual when you arehaving a bad hair day! This line isgreat because it speaks soeloquently about how little it takesto go from living a boring and oftenunbearably mundane life to awitchy, magical, miraculous life.

The difference is just onestep. One itty-bitty step.

It doesn’t matter whether you sayJesus or Universe or Great Spirit...you fill in the blank. The key is that

the line between the mundane andthe magical is a tiny one. It takesjust one step to cross that line. Justone ritual. Just one simple spell.Just. One.

INTENTION MAKES ALL THEDIFFERENCE

Above, we defined spells andrituals as formalized intentions. Sohere’s a kicker that might blow youright out of your shoes. In case youdidn’t make the connection before,

here’s a conclusion that comesnaturally out of that definition:

Any intentional act is amagical act.

Stop and savor the power of thatfor a moment. Any intentional act isa magical act. That means thatanything you do with intention (orattention) is a magical act. Thatmeans that anyone can do magic.There are no muggles. Everyonecan do magic.

A simple ritual done with intentionis a magical act. A power walkaround the neighborhood driven byintention is a magical act. Taking a

deep breath on purpose is amagical act. Are you starting to seehow easy this can be?

WHAT ARE INTENTIONAL ACTSAND WHY DO THEM?

So let’s clarify. An intentional actis any act you do on purpose. Avery simple act can be intentional,and hence an act of witchcraft andmagic. Here’s an example of anintentional act.

1. You look at a pen on your desk.

2. You decide to pick up the penright now.

3. You pick up the penimmediately after you make thedecision.

There, you have just done amagical act...and crossed the linefrom the ordinary world to themagical world. It’s simple.

Of course, the scale of theintentional act dictates the level ofits effect. A small intentional actwill give you a little magical powerboost... help you step over the line,so to speak. A stronger magicalritual will help you stay over the

line. Even more powerful magicrituals done on a daily basis as partof magical practice will help you livea magical life, even as you movethrough your ordinary dailyactivities.

Get it? Got it? Good!

OTHER FORCES OFWITCHCRAFT AND MAGIC

Does a spell or ritual have power

in and of itself? Yes. A spell hasmany source of power outside ofyour own desire and force,including:

- higher powers and beings thatrespond to magic- the force of magicalpractitioners who have used thespell or ritual previously- the power of sound, as found inlitanies, chants, and drumming- the strength of any keyed(programmed) magical tools usedduring the spell- the force of symbols, which aredoorways to actual sources of

power

A STORY ABOUT SPELLS ONTHE WORLD LEVEL

Throughout this book, we willremind you time and time againthat you need to follow the writtenspell and ritual procedures exactlybecause otherwise there could berepercussions you won’t like. Thespells and rituals in this book havebeen tested again and again overlong periods of time, so we know

they are safe to use, even for thebeginner practitioner.

Here we share a story about whathappens when spells and rituals areperformed without very specificintentions being set. Hopefully thisstory will help give credence to thefact that “altered proceduresproduce altered results.” In otherwords, if you don’t follow the exactspell and ritual directions, yourresults could get a little crazy!

WHEN A SPELL GOES WONKY

Here’s another instructive storyabout the reason for specifyingyour intention with spells and

rituals very carefully. A personinvolved in a meditation group,which taught people to get whatthey wanted using white light, raninto some unexpectedconsequences. The meditationgroup taught people to put thething they wanted to manifest ona bulletin board, and then sit thereimagining what it would be like tohave it.A woman with a difficult lifewanted to pay off her house andcar, plus receive a reliable income.She took a picture of hermortgage and wrote “paid” on it.She did the same thing with the

car loan documents, and thenasked for $250,000 free and clear.When she was asked whether shewas worried about how thismanifestation would come aboutshe replied that she was not.Then, her husband who had beena very stable person, instead ofgoing to work one day stopped atthe liquor store to buy liquor,bought a gun, got drunk, andkilled himself. The life insurancepaid off the house and car, andgave the woman $250,000 freeand clear. He was the weakestlink in the chain so, by taking thepath of least resistance, the spell

worked through him.Before using any spell or ritual

you must be very clear that theprocedure has been tested as safe.Otherwise you risk side-effects thatyou will not like… at all! Remember,the Universe doesn’t care what youintend to do… just what youactually do. The practice ofwitchcraft and magic requireprecision, and, once again: “alteredprocedures produce alteredresults!”

5.3 DO YOU HAVE TO BE AWITCH, WARLOCK, OR OTHERSUPERNATURAL BEING TO DO

WITCHCRAFT?

NOPE. NO WAY. NEVER.

Magic is the right of everyplanetary citizen. You are a citizenof Planet Earth, in case you were

wondering! Everyone has the powerand ability to be a magician and topractice magic. Absolutelyeveryone! No qualifications,caveats, “maybes” or “buts”!

No need to name or qualifyyourself as a witch, warlock,gremlin, or what-have-you. In fact,you will find that most experiencedpractitioners in the arts of magic orwitchcraft don’t give themselvesnames at all.

Such names or titles tend tointerfere with a strong practice, anddo nothing more than inflate theego.

You have no need to whip out agiant genealogical scroll that“verifies” your magical lineage.Nope, everyone can be apractitioner of witchcraft and magic.Every single person can experiencemagic in their lives, live a witchylife. There is no distinction betweenthe “muggle” and the “magical.”That’s literally hogwash!

Magic and witchcraft are both artand science, with real rules, logic,and reasoning. These practices canbe learned just as any science canbe learned. You can start anytime,including today, right now! In fact,we encourage you to do just that.

A LITTLE ON THE HISTORY OFWITCHCRAFT AND MAGIC

For well over a million years, ourancestors roamed this planet andlived successfully—for the most partwell—without needing all the aidsand protections we have come tobelieve are necessary (think guns,toilets, or any other modernconvenience that you believe youabsolutely can’t live without).Somehow, these Old Ones wereable to balance themselves so as toharmonize with the requirements of

life under a wide variety ofconditions.

Magic and witchcraft are amongthe oldest sciences on our planet,their development beginning in thedim mists of the past when someancient man undertook willfulcontact with higher powers, andmanipulation of the physicalenvironment by indirect and non-physical means.

Many of the ancients revered byour culture as “creators” of modernscience were actually practitionersof magic and witchcraft whoseresearch happened to develop in

culturally acceptable ways. Thesame is true of the ancients, nowregarded as great philosophers orteachers, who were practitionerswhose research uncovered basicknowledge about the non-physicalaspects of the Universe.

So it is that these spiritualpractices can be seen as a science,and studied and practiced as such,either within or outside of areligious framework. Though thetechnical language of magic andwitchcraft is different from that ofthe modern scientist, thepractitioner works with the samelaws and principles of the Universe

as the physicist, chemist, orastronomer.

The competent practitioner usesthe laws from a slightly differentviewpoint and in slightly differentways, whether to heal the sick,avert a disaster, divine the past orfuture, or perform rituals ofinvocation or banishment of non-physical beings.

The major difference between thephysical scientist and the spiritualpractitioner is that the former usesthe psyche, mind, and body to buildphysical tools to manipulate theUniverse. The latter considers the

psyche, mind, and body to be thetools, occasionally using additionaltools to refine their control.

Magical effects, such as telepathy,clairvoyance, telekinesis, psychichealing, spells, and prayers aremerely particular applications of thelaws and principles governingelectricity, internal-combustionengines, or chemical reactions.

The practitioner understands theUniverse in terms of four basicelements: Air, Fire, Water, andEarth. Thoughts, emotions,chemicals, experiences, bodies, andeven atomic and sub-atomic physics

can be successfully analyzed andunderstood with these fourelements.

Because they lived in a completelydifferent era, the “creators” ofmagic and witchcraft had theawareness and balancing skills (interms of energy handling) that weof 21st century America do nothave. We must devote much timeand work in studies, such as thosein this book, to develop the sameskills that came naturally to the OldOnes. We modern planetary citizensmust work hard to overcome thesluggishness and hypnosis oftoday’s society.

We hope that in working with thismaterial you will become a happier,healthier, and more “evolved”human as a result of your efforts.

We, the authors of this book, cando magic and so can you. Wepractice the spells and rituals ofmagic and witchcraft daily. So canyou. We are no different. We havea few more years of experiencethan you, but we started out asbaby spell-casters, too. It is simplerthan you might think. You can startout taking baby steps by doingsmall rituals and grow your magicalpractice from there.

5.4 WHY DEVELOP A REGULARWITCHCRAFT OR

MAGICAL PRACTICE?

We discussed the power of awitchcraft or magical practiceearlier in this book. We talkedabout how running your ownexperiment by doing a simple ritualor spell for 40 days in a row can

help you establish whether youshould have faith in these practices.We also outlined the power of thiskind of spiritual practice—thatwhatever you put into your 40-dayexperiment (a short version of aregular practice) will eventually payyou back.

Here, we just want to add a shortnote on the power of a regular,daily practice based on the spellsand rituals outlined in this book.Becoming a regular practitioner ofwitchcraft and magic can make avery powerful change in your life inquite a short period of time.

In fact, some people believe inthis principle so strongly that theyhave become slaves to theirpractices. This sounds kind ofextreme, but it’s actually a verycommon principle in many esotericand tribal practices. The gist of it isthis: according to most spiritualpractices, there can only be one“most important” thing in your life.That one thing will either be yourintentional spiritual practice or itwill be ordinary life, which is filledwith accidental events notcontrolled by intention.

In many magical traditions,students are instructed to choose

an aim (or ritual) and to make thataim their singular focus in life. Why?Because the aim or ritual isintentional, which means it createsa very precise and pre-determineddesired effect.

Just as importantly, that effectacts as an antidote against all the“accidents” that otherwise occur inlife: the fender-benders, the sickkids, the job layoff, the life-threatening health diagnosis, andother calamities. So being a slaveto your chosen spiritual practicesimply means putting moreattention on that practice than onordinary life. It means putting your

practice first, even when you thinkyou are too tired, too stressed, too[you fill in the blank…]!

HOW A REGULAR PRACTICELOOKS IN DAILY LIFE

Here’s how it would work.Suppose you choose the magicritual of hiring an angel every singleday as your regular ritual practice.Now suppose you get into a fender

bender. What do you do?

1. Don’t panic. Just mutter acouple of curse words under yourbreath if that makes you feelbetter!

2. Whip out your chosen ritual,which is to hire an angel. Hire anangel to fix this mess (before youeven get out of the car to dealwith the other driver).

3. Get out of your car and dealwith whatever practical life issuesneed to be handled, such astrading insurance information.

Notice how this sequence ofactions puts your chosen ritual first,

and then takes care of practicalworld-plane issues. By putting yourmagic ritual ahead of acts on thephysical plane, you attract moremagic and intention, and feweraccidents. We assume, of course,that the fender bender is minor andyou have 15 seconds to hire anangel before hopping out of the car.If not, use common sense and takecare of business first and hire anangel later. Just remember to putyour emphasis on the idea that yourspiritual practice is more importantthan panicking about the lifesituation… then you’ll be golden(and witchy)!

5.5 RULES OF THE ROADUNIVERSAL LAWS FOR ANY

PRACTITIONER OFWITCHCRAFT OR MAGIC

Thanks to Reverend George Dewof the Church of Seven Arrows forresearching and putting these rulestogether. While similar to theWiccan Rede, we feel these

Universal laws are stated morepractically and pragmatically foreveryday use.

Rules of the Road are Universallaws, but this can still be confusing.Go to enough magical andwitchcraft seminars, and you maystart to wonder which rules are“true” and which ones are not.

At one seminar you may learnthat you can’t use magic orwitchcraft for personal gain. Atanother workshop they teach you touse daily rituals for nothing butpersonal gain.

So who is right? Which set of

Universal laws should you follow?

It is a confusing situation to besure, but rest assured that theRules of the Road specified hereare Universal laws that do governthe practice of witchcraft andmagic. We have verified that theselaws effectively work according toour own experience andobservation.

RULES OF THE ROADRules of the Road are the set of

Universal ethics, which must be

followed for safe and effectivemagical practice. The Rules of theRoad are not the same as morals(what our culture teaches us is rightand wrong) or ethics (what wepersonally believe to be right andwrong), since both morals andethics change over time. Particularor personal morals or ethics may ormay not agree with the Rules of theRoad.

The Universe does not recognizemorals and ethics because theyvary from culture to culture, andthey change over time. Experiencedpractitioners use the Rules of theRoad defined here to guide them in

their practices instead of relying ontheir own personal value systems.

To practice magic safely andeffectively you must know andabide by the Rules of the Roadsince, as far as we know, the Rulesof the Road operate whether youknow of them, believe in them, oragree with them or not—like thelaw of gravity in the earlierexample. Additionally, normalscientific physical laws andprinciples must be followed.

AS USUAL, DON’T JUST TAKE OURWORD FOR IT

George Dew gave us this set of

Universal laws, and we have “putthe rubber to the road” in our ownpractices to ensure that theyactually work. We can assure youthat our experience shows thatthese Universal laws are effective,useful, and true.

But that is not good enough. As apractitioner of witchcraft or magic,you need to verify for yourselfwhether these Universal laws aregoing to work for you and yourpractice. Never take our word for it.Try out these Universal laws.

As mentioned earlier in this book,you can consider your own

experience of anything described inthis book as a magical experiment.Just be sure to record your resultscarefully, since your memory is notas accurate as you think it mightbe! After that, you can decidewhether these Universal laws areones that you want to follow.

TWO MAJOR RULES:

1.Whatever is done to theenvironment or to otherbeings in the environmentbrings similar effects upon thedoer.This is often called the Law ofKarma. The Universe does not

care why some action was taken,or whether the doer is trained inmagic or aware of the Rules of theRoad. Although many differentteachers have stated this law inmany different ways, includingcalling this law the Golden Rule,this law is especially important forpractitioners of witchcraft andmagic. This means that apractitioner’s acts are consciouslyand willfully directed—thus, muchmore focused—and are thereforemore powerful than the acts ofuntrained people. So the effect ofthis law in relation to apractitioner’s acts becomes much

more powerful. This applies toboth constructive and destructiveacts.

Note: While many religious andother practices consider thatKarma can carry from lifetime tolifetime, it is our experience thatthe Universe operates under asystem of “pay as you go.” Inother words, the effect of any actupon the environment (or uponbeings in the environment) comesback to you within a relativelyshort period of time—often withinhours or days.

2. The magician judges the“goodness” or “badness” of

his or her own acts, whetherthey are conscious orunconscious acts, on the basisof what the Universe reflectsback on him or her. The sameis true of judging others,entire communities, states, ornations.On a practical level, one can judgeone’s compliance with theUniverse’s standards of right andwrong, or good and bad, in termsof one’s level of health, soundnessof social relationships, luck withappliances, and sufficiency offood, clothing and shelter. If your“luck” seems consistently bad,

then you’re probably actingcontrary in some way to the Rulesof the Road, regardless of whatyour intentions are.

ETHICAL LAWS OF THE RULESOF THE ROAD

These ethical laws will give you amore detailed standard by which tomeasure your acts, or the acts ofothers, to determine whether theyare in accordance with Rules of theRoad. Judge any act of magic orwitchcraft by these laws beforedoing it.

1. Do nothing that will harmanother being unless you are

willing to suffer like or greaterharm. Note that what theUniverse considers harm may bedifferent from what our cultureteaches as harm.

2. Do not bind another beingunless you are willing to belikewise bound. This applies tomany love spells and some kindsof healing rituals.

3. Never use magic for show,pride, or vainglory. Using magic toshow off, to prove a point, or froma place of injured pride usuallyresults in side-bands (undesirableside effects) to the operation thatwill bring very undesirable

backlash from the Universe.

4. Never set an extremely highprice for the use of magic(especially divination, healing, orspells) based on your havingspecial knowledge. With someoperations that take significantman hours, such as divination, itappears by our observation to beappropriate to charge the samefee as any other professionalmight charge per hour in yourlocal area.

5. Do not use any special word,symbol, incantation, or spellunless you understand thoroughlyand completely its mechanics,

content, and intent! Be very waryof using other people’s operationsif you wish to avoid “frying”yourself, either figuratively orliterally!

6. Never do a spell without firstdoing a divination to determine a)if you should do it, and b) exactlywhat needs to be dealt with.Modern American social valuesand overt appearances of asituation are not trustworthyguides for a practitioner wishingto avoid bad karma. In otherwords, there may be hiddenfactors in the situation, whichcause the doing of a spell to be

against Rules of the Road.

7. Take your time, think itthrough, and do it right!

LOOK UP ANYTHING YOU DON’TUNDERSTAND

As an addendum to the Rules ofthe Road, another helpful principleis to look up any word in this bookthat you don’t understand. If“altered procedures produce alteredresults” is true, then working with

words that you do not understand,for instance, could very well lead toaltered results!

You may need to buy yourself agood dictionary to help you with thespells and rituals outlined in thisbook. Take the first definitionoffered because in AmericanEnglish, new words are not addedto the language so much as themeanings of existing words arechanged. The original definition isusually listed first, so to get theoriginal meaning of a word, takethe first definition.

FOLLOW DIRECTIONS EXACTLYAS GIVEN!

Did you know that the practitionerof magic and witchcraft has a verydifferent view of the Universe thanthe average man or woman on thestreet? By now this should notsurprise you. To the spiritualpractitioner the Universe is orderly,full of never-ending wonder, andneither particularly hostile norparticularly friendly, except insofaras whether it is approached

correctly or not.

Approached incorrectly, theUniverse, like any other machine,can become a thing fraught withfate, luck, and other “untold awfulmysteries” lurking in wait at everyturn.

If, on the other hand, it isapproached correctly, the Universebecomes a thing of consummateinterest and enlightenment, a placewhere one can learn and grow andenjoy unendingly, each turn of thepath bringing some new wonderinto view for joyful exploration. Inother words, the Universe becomes

a place of miracles and magic!

A QUICK NOTE ABOUT“PERSONAL GAIN”

Many people worry about whetherrituals of magic and witchcraft canbe used for personal gain orwhether there will be backlash. Justwatch a couple episodes of thepopular TV series “Charmed” andyou might be convinced that you

c a n never use these spells andrituals for personal gain.

Not so.

The whole myth that you can’t domagic or witchcraft for personalgain is bogus. If you can’t use thesespells and rituals as a recourse in alife that is admittedly unfair attimes, what is it for?

The spells and rituals taught inthis and other books in this seriescan and should be used to improveyour life. Many practitioners haveused these spells and rituals toattract money, recognition, andother life conditions, all without

backlash.

Can you use magic or witchcraft towin the lottery? You can try, but itprobably won’t work. Why not?Because the general thought formsfrom the majority of people insociety is strongly against winning.Most people buy lottery tickets“expecting” not to win. This is atopic for a whole other book, butknow that Rules of the Road, theUniversal laws that governpractitioners, do not prohibit theuse of magic for personal gain.

So go ahead, practicewitchcraft and magic, and

BUDDIES

WHAT IS THE “INCONVENIENCEFACTOR”?

It has been our observation,through the teaching of manyclasses, that the student of magicand witchcraft inevitably comes up

against the “inconvenience factor”when beginning to study thismaterial. In other words, at somepoint early in your training, it islikely that taking the time to doyour rituals and spells will be highlyinconvenient. The inconveniencefactor will require you to makemany small and some radicalchanges in your life to make roomin your life for this new spiritualpractice.

For some people, theinconvenience factor manifests inthe inability to study because of asudden bout of phone calls,relatives unexpectedly coming to

visit, work hours becoming radicallyincreased, or unexpected travel. Forothers, family or career demandssuddenly become “too much” and“something must give.” For others,some drastic event occurs in theirlife.

All those who have pushedthrough the inconvenience factorand stayed the course have foundtheir lives radically improved, nomatter the temporarily inconvenientconditions in which they findthemselves.

You will have to make the choiceof which is more important—your

new spiritual practice orconvenience. In making yourchoice, remember this: while thepractice of magic and witchcraftmay be highly inconvenient in thebeginning, when applied properly, itcan greatly reduce the level ofstruggle and increase the level ofjoy in your life in the long run.

At the beginning of your journeyas a practitioner you will be able tostraddle the two worlds, mundaneand magical, sometimes choosingmundane convenience and othertimes choosing your practice.However, as you progress in yourstudies, your intention will tend to

grow in strength and force. Theresult is that the two worlds willdiverge more and more. At somepoint, you will need to make achoice between the two worlds—magical or mundane? You will knowwhen you have reached that point…and then it will be up to you tomake your decision.

We want to leave you with onefinal note on your decisionregarding the inconvenience factor.Based on the experience ofteaching students over the last 30years, we have found that foralmost every student there is aspecific “window of opportunity”

during which a spiritual practice ismost easily integrated into dailylife. The inconvenience factorcontinues to be present, but when astudent chooses to forge aheadwith his or her spiritual studies, theinconvenience factor tends todisappear more quickly.

Those students who choose theconvenience of ordinary life—nodoubt thinking that they will returnto the development of their spiritualpractice later—find that when theytry to return to their spiritualpractice, the “window ofopportunity” is closed. While it isstill possible for these students to

develop a spiritual practice, theresistance is much greater thanbefore.

As a word to the wise, when youcome to the point at which youneed to make a decision aboutwhether to move forward with yourspiritual practice or attend tomundane life issues, think aboutthe “window of opportunity” beforeyou make your choice.

WHY HAVING A BUDDY HELPSWITH YOUR SPIRITUALPRACTICE

Having taught hundreds ofstudents over the last 30 years, wehave observed that students whoundertake the study of magic orwitchcraft with friends, partners, orsignificant others generally havemuch better results.

Therefore, before you commenceto build your spiritual practice wesuggest that you attempt to find a“buddy” to work with. A buddy canhelp you stay on track, remind youof the inconvenience factor, andtrade experiences with you

(especially when you feel that therituals or spells “are not working”).

Your buddy can also help you“see” some effects of magic orwitchcraft in your life. We all haveblind spots, and buddies can help ussee through them. For instance,many people can see whensomething “good” happens in theirlives, but fail to see when anegative influence has left theirlives.

For instance, we often counselpeople about health care. We oftenask them to tell us if anything haschanged or improved with their

health after we have completed atreatment regimen. Many times theperson says, “No, nothing haschanged.” But when we ask themwhether they still have headachesor back pain, they suddenly becomeaware of the fact that the pain isgone. We often fail to notice whenpain leaves our lives. Pain ornegative events are usuallynoticeable only when they arepresent. So be sure to have yourbuddy help you check for anythingnegative that might have left yourlife.

It is easy, especially in thebeginning of a spiritual practice, to

become overwhelmed with the dailytasks of life and forget to do yourspells and rituals. Having one ormore partners to check withthroughout the week will help youremember that you are apractitioner engaged in paying intoyour spiritual practice. Plus, havingpartners makes this study muchmore engaging and fun!

5.7 WHY YOU NEED YOUR OWNPERSONAL BOOK OF SHADOWS

A lot of people wonder, “What is abook of shadows? Is it fact orfiction?” In fact, many thousands ofpeople type the search term “realbook of shadows” into online searchengines every month to try to findout.

If you watch the TV show“Charmed” then you’ll know thatthe Halliwell sisters have a giantbook of spells written by theirancestors called a book of shadows.Others will take a hint from the titleof the second “Blair Witch” movie,despite there being no actual bookin the movie. Still others think abook of shadows is something like apersonal journal for Wiccans, anidea popularized by Gerald Gardner,who brought Wiccan practices topublic attention with his book“Witchcraft Today,” published in1954.

Obviously the definition of a real

book of shadows varies widely inpopular culture, among magical andwitchcraft practitioners as well,depending on which tradition theypractice. However, mostpractitioners agree on threecommon usages and purposes for areal book of shadows, which wediscuss below.

We strongly suggest thatyou get a book of shadows(or more than one book)before you begin practicingthe spells and ritualsdescribed in this book.

A well-recorded book of shadows

will aid your memory, help youtrack your progress, and be ofimmense use should you need totake down a spell that has goneawry!

1. RECORD SPELL DETAILS

A book of shadows is used torecord all the details of spells cast.For spells in particular, itemsrecorded in the book of shadowsmay include any divinations doneprior to a spell, the directors andlimiters for a spell (what youintend the spell to do and not do),methods used, results ofdivinations to check spell progress,

and any results of the spell.Having all these details recordedis especially important if you needto take a spell down because ofsomething going wrong. The waya spell is taken down depends onthe way it was cast. For example,if the spell was cast using a carvedcandle then to take it down thepractitioner could break the candleused in the spell and bury thepieces in a garden for a mooncycle.

2. TRACK MAGICAL AND SHAMANICRESEARCH

Magical and witchcraft

practitioners often engage inresearch, such as discovering factsabout past lives, divining futureevents, trying out new techniques,or traveling to different planes.In the traditions of the EsotericSchool of Shamanism and Magic,we record the results of walks inthe black mirror, a portal to otherplanes of existence or half-worlds.When we do these walks we use alitany or chant to direct the walkand to keep from getting lost.Recording details about the walkupon returning adds to our body ofmagical knowledge, and alsorecords the effectiveness of the

chant so it can be used again orfine-tuned for future use.Other items that we record in ourbook of shadows include ritualsperformed, divinations conducted,observations noted, witchcraftexperiments (with all thenecessary safety precautions, ofcourse), blessings offered… inshort, all magical or witchcraftprocedures.

3. PRESERVE MAGIC ANDWITCHCRAFT FOR THE FUTURE

Preserving knowledge of magicand witchcraft for futurepractitioners is one of the most

important purposes of a book ofshadows. Most traditionsrecognize the importance ofinformation and practices passedon from past practitioners. Yourpersonal book of shadows cancontain the research and results ofmultiple generations ofpractitioners handed downthrough the years. Eachgeneration of practitioners, notnecessarily related, adds theirexperience to the book.A book of shadows is a record of

the practitioner’s experience that ispreserved either for a practitioner’sown use or for future use. Note that

some practitioners keep individualbooks and never hand them downfor their own personal reasons.

However, we recommend that allpractitioners keep one or morebooks of shadows. A book ofshadows will help you rememberwhat you have done, track yourmagical experiments, and possiblybe an asset for the future. Wesuggest that you keep a separatebook of shadows each for spells andrituals, divination, generalobservations, and experiments.

One important reason to keepmultiple books of shadows is that

you should always keep your bookof shadows dedicated to spell worklocked and safe at home—spells arespecific forms of practice that youdo not want random strangersreading. On the other hand, youmay need to carry your book ofshadows dedicated to divinationoutside the home, to do Tarotreadings and such. There is muchless danger associated with otherpeople reading through yourdivination book of shadows.

PROTECTING YOUR BOOK OFSHADOWS

Many traditions suggest that youplace symbols on the front and backof your book of shadows, either fordecoration or more likely forprotection. These can range fromvery simple to very intricate.

In the Esoteric School ofShamanism and Magic, we protectour books of shadows with themagical symbol for the Plate orPantacle, also called the Disc in theTarot (see images of Shield andDisc provided). The Disc is

preferable to the Shield symbol,being more appropriate to themodern age. This symbol, drawn onthe front and back of a book ofshadows, locks and protects thebook physically and psychically. Inaddition, use your common sense tokeep your books of shadows in ahidden place not easily accessibleto visitors to your home.
