Eigenvalue problems apart from Matrix Algebra because you will almost

in mind the properties of Eigenvalues like the relation of between

Eigenvalues of two matrices that are the inverse of each other and such

similar properties. Don’t spend too much time and effort on topics like

the span of basis vectors to form an n-dimensional space as these

concepts are unnecessary for GATE.

Calculus

In Calculus, there are not many problems except for the maxima and

minima problems and the most important topics in vector calculus areGradient, Divergence and Curl and Integral Theorems. You will find a lot

many properties of each concept and you need to remember all these to

solve the problems faster and correctly.

Differential Equations

You won’t find many concepts falling under differential equations as you

can often check the solution by satisfying each option in the differential

equation placed in the problem statement but simultaneously you should

do other differential equations as well.

Probability and Statistics

General problems involving probability can be prepared by spending a

handsome amount of time in practice. Although there is nothing much to

study about them but you could remember Baye’s Theorem, try focusing

in Random Variables (Poisson’s Distributions and other distributions).

Don’t forget statistics, they too are important and you need to study

mean, median, and mode concepts as well. Coefficient of correlation is

also important so make short notes for these concepts as well.

Numerical Methods

There are two extremely important topics in this section, one being the

equation solving methods like Newton-Raphson and Bisection method

and the other method is the Numerical Integration technique. Learn the

formulas for each of these methods and make recursion faster and moreaccurate.

The only way to tackle such a wide subject is to break down the course

content to the most relevant topics and avoid unnecessary topics as this

won’t increase your performance.
