Processes that Effect Power to Control Territory

Ability to control territory is dependent on access to resources (and moving them)

Examples: energy sources, human capital, labor, development, technology and favorable geography.

Oil exports are virtually the only source of foreign revenue for landlocked South Sudan.

Processes that Effect Power to Control TerritoryFavorable geography = easy movement of products and people. (not so easy for South Sudan)

Conflict/war results around the arising need for access to resources.

Ethnic and cultural differences may be manipulated to gain support for conflict/war.

Despite denials, both governments have aided insurgents on neighboring soil.
