Learning God’s Way Term 1, Week 3 (Next Link 2 Mar) ‘The grace of God that brings salvaBon has appeared.’ Titus 2:11 Mr Gavin Hirschhausen CEO/Principal Principal’s Weekly Message I’m looking forward to seeing you all at the Welcome Feast on Thursday 1 March. Dinner is provided for College families, which will be served at 5.30pm in the Amphitheatre. We have an excellent line up of other things happening on the night. Worship ArBst Sean W Smith has a Concert in the hall at 7.00pm. At the same Bme, we have cyber expert Pete Brown, from FamilyZone, providing us with a view of the landscape and detail of the online world. The College is introducing FamilyZone to help you protect your kids online. Although cyber safety may seem to many of you as a predominantly Secondary area of concern, parents of Primary aged students are more than welcome to aZend. RSVPs are essen5al for catering and venue selec5on purposes for all of these events. You will receive a CareMonkey eForm for your family today. Please respond by Monday 26 February to let us know if you will be aZending. Sean W Smith Bckets should be purchased through TryBooking online: hZps://www.trybooking.com/ UFYA. Tickets are $5.30 each for Ages 3 to Adult, Children Age 2 and under are FREE (please sBll select Bcket/s for liZle ones in TryBooking). Please note that +ckets are limited due to Hall capacity so don't delay in booking. Limited +cket sales may be available at the door on the night, providing the Show is not booked out online prior. Click here to view my blog this week: hBps://vimeo.com/255693470 Policy Review Policies in the College undergo a regular review process. Recently the Dogs on Campus Policy has been reviewed. If parents are bringing dogs to school at drop off or pick up Bme, dogs should be restrained at all Bmes on a lead, and an adult should be in control of the animal. Dogs should not be lea unaZended at any Bme. For duty of care purposes, dogs are not permiZed in the Kindy or PrePrimary areas. If you would like to view the full Policy, please contact me to request a copy. Fiona Davidson CommunicaBons Officer Primary Netball Coordinator POSITION STILL VACANT We are in need of a parent who would be willing to Coordinate Primary Netball Teams for the College. Many children at our College enjoy playing netball, and it would be a shame for College teams not to be available this year. If a Coordinator is not found, children would need to join teams from other schools (PCYC won’t be running teams this year). There is a training day being run with JaimeLeigh Strickland of Netball WA: Thursday 22 nd March 2018 School Coordinators 4pm – 6pm GNA Foyer (Netball stadium on Eighth St Wonthella) Please contact Steve Fletcher by email or sfl[email protected] if you are keen to take on the role, or require more informaBon.

Learning God’s Way

Responsibility,  Respect  and  Safety  –  SCC’s  LiBer  Problem

Some  of  our  Primary  School  Students  have  recently  been  examining  rules  in  the  playground  from  the  framework  of  Respect,  Responsibility  and  Safety  and  wanted  to  take  this  opportunity  to  talk  about  an  ongoing  issue  in  our  College  from  the  same  framework.

LiZer,  rubbish,  garbage  –  it  doesn’t  maZer  what  we  call  it  –  it  doesn’t  belong  on  the  ground,  or  blowing  around  our  College.

As  stewards  of  God’s  good  creaBon,  we  are  given  a  responsibility  to  care  for  the  Earth.  One  way  to  do  this  is  to  keep  it  clean.  Rubbish  from  our  school  ulBmately  ends  up  blowing  into  rivers  and  oceans  and  contribuBng  to  a  larger  polluBon  problem.  Of  more  immediate  concern,  it  also  blows  into  the  yards  of  our  neighbours,  so  it  is  a  maZer  of  Respect  for  them  and  their  property  that  we  dispose  of  our  rubbish  properly.  LiZer  around  our  schoolyard  is  unsightly,  but  can  also  be  unhygienic,  and  in  some  cases  be  a  Safety  issue,  where  it  can  cause  a  slip/trip  hazard.

There  is  always  the  opBon  of  adding  more  rules  to  the  College  and  forcing  Secondary  students  to  eat  in  designated  areas,  but  this  is  not  the  number  one  choice  in  terms  of  teaching  appropriate  behaviours.  If  we  act  now,  hopefully  it  won’t  become  our  only  choice.

A  few  ideas  for  how  students  and  parents  can  help  with  this  problem:

Parents    -‐ Think  about  the  packaging  that  is  coming  to  school  in  lunchboxes.    -‐ Is  it  possible  to  use  re-‐usable,  rather  than  single  use  packaging?    -‐      Talk  to  your  child/ren  about  why  it  is  important  to  put  rubbish  in  the  bin

Students    -‐   Be  responsible  for  your  own  rubbish.  Keep  an  eye  (or  your  hands)  on  it  when  it  is  breezy.  If  it

blows  away,  it  hasn’t  disappeared.  -‐   Hold  each  other  accountable  –  let  your  friends  know  that  it’s  not  OK  if  you  see  them  leaving

rubbish  on  the  ground.  -‐   Be  part  of  the  soluBon.  Pick  up  rubbish  even  if  it  isn’t  yours  (but  wash  your  hands  aaerwards).

In  partnership,

Steve  Fletcher  Deputy  Principal  (Student  Welfare)
